J.R. is a handsome 10 month old Brittany Spaniel/Cavalier King Charles cross. When his family was evicted from their home, J.R. and the family cat were left behind to fend for themselves. Fortunately for J.R., a boarding facility was located just across from his apartment building. When the manager heard about his fate, she took him in and found rescue placement for him. Despite his rough beginnings, J.R. is a very well-adjusted dog who loves the company of people. He is accustomed to living with children and is gentle enough to be placed with young kids. He also gets along well with other pets, both dogs and cats. What's more, he's fully housebroken! While J.R. is rather confused by the sudden change in his life circumstances, he is beginning to adjust. We have promised J.R. that a better life is just around the corner for him. He is definitely looking forward to all that lies ahead! J.R. is neutered, up-to-date on all shots, microchipped, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer J.R. a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. J.R. will be checking his inbox daily!
Charles In Charge is a handsome 1 year old buff male Cocker Spaniel with a fabulous temperament. He is gentle and friendly towards everyone he meets. Charlie is a very happy boy whose favorite pastime is playing with his fleecy toys. While he could easily join a multi-pet household, Charlie is so great at keeping himself occupied that he would be unlikely to be lonely as an only dog. Charlie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. All he needs now is a home to call his own. If you have been feeling a little lost and overhwhelmed this holiday season, don't despair ... Charles In Charge has everything well in hand. If you would like to meet Charlie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Charlie is waiting to hear from you!
A BIG THANK YOU TO DEE OF LAURELTON, NY FOR OFFERING BOSCO A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH HE IS SHARING WITH DEE'S OTHER PAMPERED PETS! DEE REPORTS THAT BOSCO IS HOUSEBROKEN AND BEHAVING HIMSELF BEAUTIFULLY! Bosco is a Shih Tzu/Pomerainian cross weighing under 15 pounds who has come to us as an owner surrender. Bosco started life out as a "designer dog" purchase in a pet store. When his novelty wore off in his initial home, he was surrendered to Animal Care and Control in Brooklyn and subsequently came into rescue. Bosco gets along well with other dogs and enjoys the company of people. He should make a good family pet, although we would prefer to see him in a home with slightly older kids. Bosco has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you are looking for an extra special lap dog and would like to offer Bosco a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bosco will be checking his inbox daily! ![]()
A BIG THANK YOU TO ASHLEY OF MANHATTAN FOR OFFERING RAY CHARLES A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME. Dear Santa, Hello, my name is Ray Charles. I am a leading Canine Blues artist and with good reason. I was found on the side of the road in decrepit condition and brought to a local vet clinic, where the staff was not sure who or what I was. They knew I was a dog (that much was clear) but what type of breed or even what sex lay beneath my dred locks was not at all apparent. Can you believe my BEFORE and AFTER pictures? To be honest, even I can't tell which end is which! I was so matted that I had to be sedated in order to be shaved down, whereupon they discovered that I was a tri-color male Cocker Spaniel (I am mostly black, but I have a little white on my chest and tan points on my feet and brows). I was reported as a lost dog to Animal Control, but when no one came to claim me (given my appearance, are you surprised?) they asked Cocker Rescue to come for me. I am a very loving, friendly boy, but I need an experienced owner who will be firm with me. I need someone to remind me that the Top Dog is always the owner and never the dog, which was kind of news to me. I mean, who knew? I love other dogs, although (surprise, surprise) I want to be the leader of the pack. I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. All that I need to make my life complete is a place called home (and of course some obedience training). I am writing you this letter as I have heard from other dogs in rescue that you can help make dreams come true. All I want for Christmas is someone to love me. Is that something you could put under the tree for me? If you have any thoughts as to how my dream could become reality, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com. I'll be checking my inbox daily. Affectionately yours, Ray Charles
Tiny Dancer is a beautiful 8 month old purebred Cocker Spaniel puppy with an A+ temperament. Tiny Dancer is a very petite girl who came into the Manhattan shelter an emaciated stray. Despite all she has been through, Tiny Dancer is very happy girl. Her favorite pastime is doing the "wiggle dance." Forget about holiday stress ... Tiny Dancer is a poster child for holiday happiness. She will make a fabulous family pet!! Tiny Dancer is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to tango with Tiny Dancer, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Tiny Dancer is looking for a new partner. ![]()
Look who dropped in for the Thanksgiving Day Parade and a little Black Friday Shopping! Meet Macy, a 10 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel. Macy is a petite and adorable girl who is remarkably calm and well adjusted for all she has been through. She is VERY SWEET AND DOCILE and spends much of her time napping on the sofa. Macy lost her home when her elderly owner went into an assisted living facility where dogs are not allowed. No one in the family would take poor Macy in (so much for the holiday spirit), so she came into rescue. Macy gets along well with people and is fine with other dogs. She is a very calm girl, so we anticipate that she would do well with cats. Macy has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She does seem to be somewhat hard of hearing (not surprising for an older girl) but has been fully vet checked (including bloodwork) and overall is in excellent health. If you would like to offer Macy a home for the holidays, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Macy is waiting to begin her winter romance with her new forever family!
Hi, my name is Benjamin. I am a 10-12 month old purebred Cocker Spaniel with a great temperament and am handsome as can be! No one is cuter than I am! I have all the great qualities of an older puppy. I am extremely playful and very loving and will make a great family pet! I am a little shy with new people (of course that lasts all of thirty seconds), then I'm all set to be friends. And who could ask for a better friend than me? Let's stick together through thick and thin! I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. All I need is a place called home. If you'd like that home to be yours (sounds good to me!) please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my inbox daily. Love, Benjamin
A BIG THANK YOU TO KATE OF MAHWAH, NJ FOR OFFERING A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME TO THIS VERY SPECIAL SENIOR GIRL. Lily needs a FOSTER HOME ... or better still, an adoptive home where she can live out her golden years in safety and comfort. Lily is one of those unfortunate seniors who was dumped at a kill shelter by her heartless family simply because she got "too old." How could anyone be so ruthless towards such a sweet and gentle creature, especially one who had been a member of the family for upwards of a decade? Lily has no health or behavioral problems that our vet has been able to detect other than an upper respiratory infection that she contracted in the Manhattan shelter (following which she ended up on the euthanasia list). Lily is housebroken, good with kids, and fine with other dogs. She'll make the perfect foster or adoptive pet for someone who has a heart for Golden Girls. Lily is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and heartworm negative. If you would like to offer this sweet senior a place to call home, please email Abandoned Angels and request an application. Lily is waiting to hear from you! Sweet little Miss Mandy hails from Missouri. A kind soul noticed that her time was going to be up and agreed to be her Guardian Angel. A bunch of dedicated rescue transporters brought her to the Big Apple. Mandy is a 2 year old chocolate and white female cocker spaniel. She must have been the runt of the litter. She’s such a little thing not even 20 lbs. Although she’s small she has such a big heart full of love for everyone she meets. Her tail never stops wagging. A true wiggle butt. Loves, loves kids, even the very young ones, and dogs. Mandy is housebroken, well behaved and quiet. She’s spayed, up-to-date on her shots and Heartworm negative. It appears that she may have a cataract in one eye. But one would never know it. She moves as if her eye sight were 20/20. Please contact Rebecca by email at bagelriv@aol.com if you are interested in adopting Mandy.
Blue-Eyed Baby is a purebred 10-12 month old black and white Shih Tzu with a little pink nose. This utterly adorable boy has one sky blue eye, which gives him a very striking appearance. He is just handsome as can be! Blue-Eyed Baby has a winning personality to boot ... his little tail is always on the go. He is a very friendly boy! Blue-Eyed Baby had the misfortune of being mistreated in his first home and ultimately ended up at Brooklyn Animal Care and Control. While at first somewhat fearful and hesitant to trust, within a week or so Blue-Eyed Baby had decided that most people could be considered friends. Since he rounded that corner, Blue-Eyed Baby has never looked back! Blue-Eyed Baby will make a good family pet, although we believe would do best in a home with slightly older kids. Blue-Eyed Baby loves other dogs and we believe will do fine with cats, so could easily join a multiple pet household. Blue-Eyed Baby is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Blue-Eyed Baby a home for the holidays, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Blue-Eyed Baby and his friend the Stork will be checking our inbox daily.
UPDATE: SIMBA WILL BE STAYING WITH ABANDONED ANGELS. HE WILL ALWAYS BE DADDY'S BOY! They say that chocolate is a substitute for love … well, I am love and chocolate all rolled up into one! My name is Simba, and I am a handsome chocolate brown male Cocker Spaniel. Last Christmas Eve, I turned three years old. I had a family once, but when they moved away, I was left behind. Fortunately, they surrendered me to cocker rescue, so I was spared the trauma of being left at a shelter. Although at first I missed my family, my memories of them are starting to fade. I have been doing well in my foster home, where I get lots of love, toys and treats. Everyone is always telling me what a good boy I am. I get along well with other dogs as long as they are small … big dogs tend to intimidate me a bit. I love people (especially women) and am always wagging my stubby little tail. I guess you could call me a Mama's Boy. I am not too friendly towards men, but can warm up to certain men, provided they are nice to me and give me the chance to overcome my apprehensions. I am very smart and listen well. I am also HOUSEBROKEN and will ask to go out when I need to. I am very affectionate and very devoted to those I love. Do you dream of love, hugs and chocolate? If so, then I'm the guy for you … let me make your dreams come true!
UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO SUSAN OF MANHATTAN FOR OFFERING HIPPIE CHIC A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME. Hippie-Chic is a beautiful 3 year old Cocker/Beagle cross who was an owner surrender to the Manhattan Shelter. We believe that she was beaten regularly in her previous home, especially when she had accidents. Hippie-Chic becomes terrified if she perceives that she has done something "wrong" and is quite fearful of new people or those of whom she is unsure. She does not respond aggressively when frightened, she simply cowers in a way that is quite heartbreaking. We believe that Hippie-Chic will require lots of TLC and time to warm up to her new family before she feels fully at home. Hippie-Chic has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. Whether your taste runs towards the hip or the traditional (or somewhere in between), Hippie-Chic will look great by your side! Although she appreciates fashion as much as the next girl, Hippie-Chic is not a fad and needs a home for every season. If you would like that home to be yours, please contact us to discuss her further.
A BIG THANK YOU TO THE REEVES FAMILY OF LARCHMONT, NY FOR FOSTERING FRISBEE AND HIS FOSTER BROTHER, TONY! Meet our Frisbee, a handsome 2 year old male Cocker Spaniel with a natural tail. Frisbee's coat is a beautiful shade of reddish buff with blonde highlights. Frisbee was a stray who was turned into Manhattan Animal Control. Poor Frisbee reacted badly to the stress of the shelter environment and found himself on the euthanasia list when his stray time was up. Fortunately for Frisbee, an Angel was looking over his shoulder. When we at Cocker Rescue heard about his fate, we knew that we would have to find space for this poor terrified soul. Since coming into Rescue, Frisbee has begun to relax and come out of his shell. Slowly but surely, he is starting to trust again. Frisbee is FULLY HOUSEBROKEN, neutered, up-to-date on shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to open your heart and home to Frisbee, please contact us to discuss him further.
Santa would like you to know that Elves come in many shapes and sizes. This one is a 6 year old apricot toy poodle weighing just 10 pounds. Elf came to us from Brooklyn Animal Care and Control, where he had been turned in as a stray. He was found wandering around Brighton Beach just before Thanksgiving in weather hardly appropriate for sunbathing! Elf is a very friendly boy who would make an excellent family pet. He gets along well with people and is very playful with other dogs, so he could easily join a multi-pet household. As he has demonstrated no aggression whatsoever, we believe he would be fine with kids. And if course he is a HYPOALLERGENIC pup (always a plus). Elf is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you are looking for an Elf to help you decorate your home with boughs of holly this holiday season (and perhaps to join you on your shopping expedition), ours is sure to fit the bill (as well as your handbag). Elf will be checking his inbox daily, so don't delay ... email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application!
Action Jackson is an adorable 1-2 year old sable male Cocker Spaniel. He's such a cutie, we could just eat him up! We'd have to catch him first, though, which is not always easy! Action Jackson is always on the go. After all, he's in a hurry to reach an important destination. If you're wondering where he's headed, Action Jackson will be the first to tell you ... he wants to go HOME! We've assured him that he should have no shortage of offers. In addition to his good looks, Action Jackson is a very friendly boy who has so far demonstrated no aggression towards people or other pets. We therefore believe he'll make an excellent family pet. While he's the ultimate sweetie, Action Jackson could definitely use some guidance in the ways of the world ... everything from housebreaking to which toys belong to him. Not to worry, though ... Action Jackson is prepared to follow, he just needs an experienced owner to lead the way. Action Jackson is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to Take Action, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application!
MANY THANKS TO MRS. GUIFFRE FOR OFFERING MAGGIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN BAY RIDGE, BROOKLYN, WHICH MAGGIE IS SHARING WITH DONDI THE CAT! Maggie is a beautiful female Cocker Spaniel who was found tied up outside of Brooklyn Animal Care and Control. When she went unclaimed at the end of her stray period, Maggie was surrendered to Abandoned Angels. Maggie obviously led a difficult existence prior to coming into Rescue, so much so that we find it difficult to assess her age. As her teeth are in great shape, the shelter felt she was around 2, but we believe she could be as old as 6. It has also occurred to us that she may be a young dog who was never given ample time to recover in between litters of pups. Maggie can be timid with new people, but warms up once she understands that she will not be hurt. Once she trusts, she becomes extremely loving. Maggie is very well behaved in the house (she is fully housebroken) and does well with other pets (both dogs and cats). She has even been known to walk up to another cocker in her foster home and give the dog a kiss. She recently comforted a newcomer from the pound by giving him a few encouraging licks on the face, as if to tell him, "I've been where you are ... don't worry, everything will be okay." A false start in an adoptive home has led us to conclude that it is essential for Maggie to be placed in an experienced Cocker Spaniel family with owners who are accustomed to flushing cocker ears on a regular basis, even if the dog objects. While Maggie's ears are in good shape, they are delicate and will absolutely become infected if not diligently maintained. Although Maggie is not an aggressive dog, she is capable of biting in response to ear pain. As a result, she will not be placed in a home with young kids. Maggie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you believe that you can offer Maggie a loving, experienced Cocker Spaniel home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.
Carlie says peek-a-BOO for Halloween! This adorable tri-color female Cocker Spaniel (white, black and tan) has the most beautiful markings! Sweet Carlie is an older puppy just 10-12 months old with an A+ temperament ... she will make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET! Carlie is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to celebrate this festive time of year with Carlie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Carlie will be checking her email inbox daily!
Tiffany and Tabitha are the remaining two of three puppies who have recently come to Abandoned Angels. Tiffany is a very pale buff 5 month old female and Tabitha is a 4 month old sable. These adorable girls are teacup Cocker Spaniels who should only weigh about 15 pounds when fully mature. They can be placed either separately or together. The puppies are being adopted out under a spay/neuter contract ... they must be spayed at 6 months old. Both puppies are fully vaccinated as well as microchipped. These adorable girls are typical puppies who love to play ... of course they will need help with housebreaking. If you would like to adopt one or both of these adorable girls, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.
Lana is a very pretty 3 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel. Like Lana Turner, the famous movie actress of yesteryear, our Lana is a classic blonde beauty. Lana came to us from Brooklyn Animal Care and Control where she had been turned in as a stray. Lana would like everyone to know that blondes do NOT have more fun in the New York City shelter system, they find the whole experience just as scary and unnerving as any other pooch. Much to her relief, when Lana went unclaimed at the end of her stray period, she was released to Rescue. Sadly, Lana has severe scarring that is localized in both hind quarters, which we believe is due either to a burn or a severe skin infection that went untreated. Our vet believes that the condition of her skin will improve significantly with time, but we cannot guarantee that she will have full regrowth of her coat in that area. Lana has an EXCELLENT TEMPERAMENT and shows no aggression whatsoever towards people or other pets. We believe that she will make a good FAMILY DOG and that she could be placed with YOUNG KIDS. Lana is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar.
Just in is Dustin, a 3 year old pale buff male Cocker Spaniel so talented and charming that we felt compelled to name him after a movie star. Whether your favorite Hoffman flic is Tootsie or Rainman, you'll be sure to enjoy re-watching them with our Dustin snuggled up beside you. Dustin came to us from Brooklyn Animal Care and Control where he had been turned in as a stray. When his stray hold was up, Dustin was released to Rescue. Dustin can be a little shy with new people but warms up quickly. He gets along well with other dogs and would likely be fine with cats. Dustin has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. Dustin will make a super buddy with whom to enjoy favorite Netflix, as well as the ups and downs of life. If you would like to share your home (and of course a little popcorn) with Dustin, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Dustin will be checking his inbox daily!
MANY THANKS TO BONNIE FOR OFFERING SCRUFF A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN THE POCONO MOUNTAINS! Hello, my name is Scruff. I am a classic salt and pepper Mini Schnauzer just 5 years old. As soon as you look into my eyes, you are sure to fall in love with me! I was recently surrendered by my family to Brooklyn Animal Care and Control because they said I was not good with kids. My family did not actually have little children, but when some young kids came to visit, I got all upset and snippy. I am a very friendly boy and have nothing against kids in general, but these particular children just did not understand that a dog is not a toy. I hope that whoever adopts me next will make sure that any children I may meet in the future will be nice to me and treat me gently. You may be wondering how a little Schnauzer like me ended up in Cocker Rescue. Well, it all unfolded just like this ... I was in the cage just above a Cocker Spaniel who was being evaluated by a Cocker Rescue volunteer. Not much of anyone was interested in me because of my "doesn't like kids" label, so I figured it was time to take matters into my own little paws. I decided to roll the dice and ask this nice lady if she might be willing to help me out too. I guess my luck had changed, because the next thing I knew, she agreed to take me! I have been doing really well in Cocker Rescue, getting along with all the other dogs and behaving well in my foster home, where I enjoy snuggling on the couch and watching TV. See? We Schnauzers are not so different from Cockers. All rescued dogs are pretty much the same ... we just need love, a little understanding, and the right approach. I am a very healthy boy, have been neutered, microchipped, am up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I've been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you believe there's No Place Like Home and think you may be able to offer me a place called Happily Ever After, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my inbox daily. Love and licks in the meantime, Scruff XXOO
UPDATE: MANY THANKS TO ELAINE OF REGO PARK, NY FOR OFFERING HEMPSTEAD A FOSTER HOME ... A BIG THANK YOU TO ELAINE! Hempstead is a handsome pale buff Cocker Spaniel with white markings. He is just two years old. Hempstead came into rescue after having been found as a stray. Hempstead is a very playful boy who gets along well with other dogs. We believe that he would do best in a fairly mellow home environment. While Hempstead does not necessarily need an adult only home, we would prefer an experienced cocker home for him where any kids in the home are older (in their mid-teens and up). Hempstead would also benefit from an obedience training class, as he can be stubborn about releasing his toys. His foster mom is working with Hempstead on this little foible of his. Hempstead has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like more information about Hempstead, please contact us to discuss him further.
Black-Tie is a beautiful young tuxedo cat who was about to be squashed by a truck when a kind passerby hopped out of her car and snatched her to safety. While we are a Cocker Spaniel Rescue, we understand that Angels come in many forms, both canine and feline. We found Black-Tie to be such a beautiful, affectionate soul that we decided to consider her an Honorary Cocker Spaniel. We took her in for vetting and she passed with flying colors ... negative for feline aids and leukemia and otherwise very healthy. A little too healthy, one might almost say! Imagine our vet's surprise (not to mention ours) when he went to spay her and discovered our Black-Tie was expecting! Hardly what we expected either. However, like Black-tie, we've taken it all in stride. She's now the proud mother of five beautiful kittens (we call them the Fav-5) who have just opened their eyes and are beginning to walk. Although Black-Tie has proven to be an excellent mother, the Fav-5 will be her only litter. Black-Tie will be spayed before adoption and each of the Fav-5 will be adopted out under a spay/neuter contract. If you would like to adopt one of our Honorary Cocker Spaniels, whether Black-Tie or one of the Fav-5, please contact us to discuss them further. After all, what's a Woof when you can have a Meow?
Cooper Mini is a handsome, rust-colored Cocker Spaniel with lots of ZOOM! He is about 10 months old and always on the go! Like the car after which he is named, one is sure to get a lot of mileage out of Cooper Mini. Cooper Mini is quite a small Cocker Spaniel who is unlikely to weigh more than about 20 pounds when fully mature. It is hard to believe that such a handsome charmer would have ended up a stray who went unclaimed. Given his high energy level, we believe that Cooper Mini would do best in a home with a fenced in yard and perhaps some kids to run and play with. He has shown no aggression while in Rescue, so we believe would make an excellent family pet. Cooper Mini has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Cooper Mini a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. But don't delay ... with his good looks and super temperament, he is sure to be hitting the road soon!
Trooper is a very sweet 5 year old buff Cocker Spaniel with the constitution of a Paratrooper ... perhaps even a member of the Special Forces. We do not know how else this poor boy could have survived so much neglect and misunderstanding. We always marvel when a dog comes to us with the description of "vicious" and then proves to be a sweet and mellow soul who simply found himself the victim of unfortunate circumstances. Trooper is the perfect example of a dog who has been badly misunderstood. We were first contacted about Trooper by his family, who had been given Trooper by another family who no longer wanted him. As luck would have it, when we received the request to take Trooper in as an owner surrender, our rescue was rather overwhelmed. We told the owner (who had described Trooper as aggressive towards strangers and other dogs and only trustworthy with her husband) that we would call back and set up a time to evaluate her dog. We telephoned a week or so later only to discover that the husband had that very day surrendered Trooper to Brooklyn Animal Control. We were very upset and concerned for Trooper, as a dog who reacts badly towards other animals and strangers will surely fare very poorly in such an environment. Sure enough, when we called the shelter the next morning, we were told that Trooper had received an evaluation of "severe" and was scheduled for euthanasia. We begged the shelter to give us time to come in and evaluate him. When we went to pay Trooper a visit at ACC, we were of course prepared for him to come lunging at us with teeth bared, straining at the end of a rabies pole. Instead, we met a quiet, badly matted Cocker who looked at us with some of the saddest eyes we had ever seen. After sniffing at us tentatively, Trooper attempted to get into our car. His hopefulness simply broke our hearts. As Trooper had developed an upper respiratory infection, we had the shelter transport him to our vet's office the next day. Although fussy for medical treatment, he was quite playful with the clinic staff ... hardly the behavior of a dog who is aggressive towards strangers. Within a week or so, Trooper had recovered medically, so we sent him into boarding at a cageless facility in Brooklyn so that he could begin to heal emotionally. We anticipated a frantic S.O.S. call from the manager telling us that Trooper was attacking other dogs. Instead, we heard that Trooper was socializing well with everyone, both people and other animals. The facility's groomer even called us to say what a sweet boy he had been during a very difficult, 4 hour grooming session (for that reason, our groomer renamed him "Trooper"). As the days go by, Trooper continues to do fabulously well. He is clearly feeling both happy and safe. Trooper has proven to be an absolute mush of a dog who simply needed the opportunity to shine. He is rolling over onto his back to receive much needed belly rubs and even giving kisses. We have promised Trooper that all the misfortunes of his past are behind him forever. If you have ever been badly misunderstood in your life and been wronged because of it, then you can surely place yourself in Trooper's shoes. Trooper is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He is a beautiful, full-coated Cocker who is of course sporting a Paratrooper's crew cut for now. If you would like to offer Trooper a safe and happy home where he can receive the love he so deserves, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application Angelfood Cake is a handsome 2 year old white Miniature Poodle who was turned into Brooklyn Animal Care and Control as a stray. One can only imagine how frightened this little guy must have been as he fended for himself on the streets of New York City. Upon arriving at the shelter, he was truly petrified. Since coming into Rescue, Angel has begun to feel safe and to come out of his shell. He is a very loving little dog who we believe would do best in a quiet, adult only home or in a home where any kids in the household are mature and dog savvy. Angel has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will shortly be enjoying a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer our Angel a little piece of Heaven on earth (otherwise known as a place called home) please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Now is the time to earn your Angels' wings by adopting a needy little New Yorker!
Gaby is a small black terrier (we believe Scotty and mini Schnauzer) who is just 5 months old. Gaby was a stray who was found by a Good Samaritan ... this poor little baby was very scared and covered in fleas! When her owner could not be found, Gaby was released to Rescue. Thanks to a few flea baths and a dose of Frontline, Gaby is now critter-free. She has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Gaby a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Gaby is waiting to hear from you!
Prince Perfect is a very small black and white full-coated Cocker Spaniel. He is 2 years old and weighs just 20 pounds. This tiny boy has beautiful markings and is as charming as they come. He is a very well behaved little dog (slightly timid, but starting to come out of his shell), in fact quite the little gentleman. Immediately upon coming into boarding, Prince Perfect ran over to the manager on duty and sat down at her feet as if awaiting instructions. Prince Perfect does well with other dogs and would likely be fine with cats. Although he would probably tolerate very young kids, he can be a little skittish, so would probably do best in a calm family environment where any children in the home are gentle and fairly mature. Prince Perfect has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Prince Perfect has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. Blossom is a 10-12 month old black Cocker Spaniel/Long-Haired Dachshund cross with a hint of white on her chest and nose. Given her round little face, we believe that she may also have a bit of Shih Tzu or even Cavalier King Charles in her line ... all very beautiful breeds that have come together in one adorable 15 pound package. This little angel came into the Brooklyn shelter as a stray who went unclaimed. The shelter did not assign her a name, perhaps because they did not quite know what to make of her. She was very fearful and difficult to handle. We decided to call her Blossom because we understood that she needed time to flower. Having been badly battered by life's storm, she did not know whom to trust. She was severely matted and very handshy. But within a couple of days of leaving the shelter, Blossom figured it was time to take a chance on love. She began to sniff and then lick her foster mom's fingers and eventually was quite happy to be picked up and cuddled. While she will initially need an adult-only home, we believe she will eventually be trustworthy with gentle kids who are mature and dog savvy. She is great with other dogs and would likely be fine with cats as well. Despite all she's been through, Blossom was FABULOUS for grooming and is now looking quite adorable. Blossom has also been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you have a green thumb and a penchant for flowers, we have a gorgeous new houseplant for you to nurture! Water, sunshine and a little love (not to mention dog food and treats) will go a long way towards helping this little pup develop healthy new roots. If you have space for Blossom in your greenhouse, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Blossom is waiting to hear from you!
Bisou (the french word for "Kiss") is a handsome 2 year old Bichon who is believed to be a purebred. This adorable, super affectionate boy came into Brooklyn Animal Control and Control as a stray and went unclaimed. As he was wearing a rabies tag, the shelter was successful in tracing his owners but, sadly, they never responded to ACC's letter. At the end of his 10 day hold period, Bisou was therefore released to Rescue. Bisou is a truly wonderful companion. He is very loyal and loving, so much so that he can usually be found at his person's feet, if not in their lap. He is great with other dogs and would likely be fine with cats. Bisou would likely be fine with children, although we would prefer to see him in a home with slightly older kids who are mature enough to understand that a pet is not a toy. Bisou is very smart and appears to be fully housebroken. He is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Bisou will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Bisou a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bisou blows you a kiss in the meantime.
Blue is a majestic 2 year old Cocker Spaniel. He is a rare and unusual Blue Merle Cocker, with spots of white and mottled grey running through his black coat. Blue has stunning eyes, one brown and blue. Blue was surrendered to Manhattan Animal Control shortly before Christmas. According to his owners, he did not get along with a young child in the family. Blue will therefore require an Adult Only home or a home where children in the household are older and dog savvy. Blue is an extremely affectionate dog and will make an excellent companion. In addition to giving kisses, he will even place his paws on a person's shoulders in order to give hugs. Blue tends to be more drawn towards men than women, although he will bond with women once he gets to know them. Blue has been neutered, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO JOHN OF HAMDEN,CONNECTICUT , FOR PROVIDING BLUE WITH A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME WHILE HE AWAITS HIS FOREVER FAMILY.
Rhinestone is a 6 year old black Cocker Spaniel who has clearly endured a tough life. Rhinestone came into Brooklyn Animal Care and Control as a stray who went unclaimed. Her stocky little frame has clearly produced several litters of pups. When her life as a breeding dog was done, she was evidently discarded without further thought. Despite having been separated from her offspring, Rhinestone has retained strong maternal instincts. Although she gets along with other dogs, she is used to being the leader and may even discipline a misbehaving pup. Rhinestone bonds quickly with people and loves very deeply. She is a dog who longs to be at her person's side. Having been quite neglected during her life, Rhinestone would thrive most in an environment where someone is able to devote a lot of time to her. She is longing to make up for the opportunities she missed in the past! Rhinestone has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has recently enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. Diamonds may be forever, but the love of a Rhinestone can last an eternity too. If you would like to open your heart and home to Rhinestone, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.
Grendel is a handsome 3 year old apricot Poodle/Wheaten Terrier cross, both very hypoallergenic breeds. Grendel was a stray who came into the Brooklyn shelter and went unclaimed. All he had to his name was a ratty flea collar and a will to survive. While initially very frightened and shy about being handled, Grendel soon decided to make the best of things by wagging his fluffy tail and offering kisses. He has a naturally happy disposition! Grendel has shown no aggression towards people or other animals (when frightened, his instinct is to run and hide rather than to bite), so should make a good family pet. Grendel has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Grendel a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Grendel will be checking his inbox daily!
Dillon is 1 year old parti-colored (red and white) male Cocker Spaniel with a long, natural tail. He likely has a hint of Poodle in him, but is predominantly Cocker. This handsome boy was surrendered to Rescue by his owners, who decided that they did not have adequate time to devote to him. Dillon is neutered, up-to-date on his shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He is not yet fully housebroken, but is a smart boy who is eager to please and should learn quickly. Dillon can be very loving, but also has a bit of a stubborn streak. Dillon will make an excellent pet but will likely require obedience training to help him on his way.
Jessica needs a FOSTER HOME or, better still, an adoptive home where she can live out her later years in security and comfort. Jessica is a very beautiful pale buff (almost white) Cockapoo with subtle apricot highlights running through her coat. She weighs just 18 pounds. Jessica's story is the all too typical tale of a dog who spends the bulk of her life with a family, only to be dumped at a kill shelter as a senior. After 12 years, Jessica's family decided that they were "allergic" to her. If they had indeed begun to itch, sniffle and sneeze around this hypoallergenic little dog, then it was surely due to her filthy condition rather than to allergies. Jessica was such a mess when she arrived that we think it likely she had not been groomed in years. Her abdomen, legs and paws were so badly matted that we had difficulty shaving them down, even with a pre-surgical blade. Underneath it all, we discovered nails 2 inches in length that were curling over into her little paw pads. Walking must have been painful and difficult for her. Now that she has been groomed, Jessica is beginning to bounce and wiggle, as if to let everyone know how pretty she feels. She is beginning to enjoy her walks around the neighborhood and also starting to put on some much needed weight. Jessica is a very quiet dog who has a low activity level (she loves her naps, especially when snuggled up against her favorite person!) She is FULLY HOUSEBROKEN and will make an EXCELLENT APARTMENT DOG. She is spayed, up-to-date on all shots, microchipped, heartworm negative, and has just received a dental. If you would like to adopt Jessica or offer this senior beauty a foster home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Jessica will be checking her email inbox daily!
Barbaro is a handsome 3-4 year old black male Cocker Spaniel. Due to his courage and strength of heart, we decided to name him after a champion racehorse. Barbaro was a stray who was found wrapped in barbed wire in a deliberate act of cruelty. The person who found Barbaro brought him to a local vet clinic and promised to assume the costs of his care, but then disappeared and failed to return phone calls. Animal Control was alerted, but Barbaro went unclaimed and was eventually released to Rescue. Barbaro has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has tested heartworm negative. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. Although he has experienced the thorny side of life, Barbaro remains optimistic about the future. As he has almost certainly experienced some abuse in the past, we believe that Barbaro would do best in an adult only home or in a home where any children are over 12 and fairly dog savvy. If you would like to offer Barbaro a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Barbaro will be checking his inbox daily!
Ricky Ricardo is a 2 year old miniature poodle who is looking for his Lucy. He is a tall, regal looking boy who may be a mini/standard cross, we are not sure. He is a very outgoing and friendly dog, so should make a good family pet. Ricky was an owner surrender to the Brooklyn shelter due to lack of time. We've told Ricky not to worry, he is such a delight that someone will be sure to make time for him the next time around. Ricky has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Ricky a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Ricky will be checking his email inbox daily, hoping for a message from Lucy.
Ninja is a handsome 3 year old purebred black Cocker Spaniel. Ninja was a stray who went unclaimed. We can't imagine why ... this handsome boy has a WONDERFUL TEMPERAMENT and will make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET. His little tail is always on the move, just like a propeller. He gets along with other dogs and should also be fine with cats. Ninja has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Ninja a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Ninja will be checking his inbox daily!
JUST LOOK AT THIS FACE! Meet Brogan, a handsome buff male Cocker Spaniel about 5 years old. He is coming to us from a kill shelter, where he had been turned in as a stray. Brogan has an EXCELLENT TEMPERAMENT and would make a fabulous family dog. He has a naturally happy disposition, as evidenced by his little stubby tail, which is always on the go! Brogan loves other dogs and should also be fine with cats. Brogan has been neutered, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has also had a cherry eye repaired. Brogan has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Brogan a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Brogan is waiting to spend the Labor Day weekend with you!
ANDY HAS A FOREVER HOME! THANKS TO CARLA OF THE CHANCE FOUNDATION FOR HELPING ANDY AND FINDING HIM HIS FOREVER HOME. UPDATE: BIG NEWS!! Andy is currently in Virginia, where he will be spending the next several weeks working with a group of trainers. A big thank you to Carla and her team for taking Andy into their program on a pro bono basis! Andy is a handsome 15 month-old parti-colored (chocolate and white) Cocker Spaniel. Andy was recently surrendered to us by a couple who had just had their first child and did not feel they could cope with both an active young Cocker and a newborn. Andy is a friendly boy who loves exercise, particularly chasing and retrieving balls. He responds to many verbal and physical commands, such as sit, down, paw, and stay. He loves people and greets visitors with a wagging tail and a warm disposition. He also enjoys the company of other dogs. Andy is FULLY HOUSEBROKEN, neutered, up-to-date on his shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Since he is both a high energy dog and a dominant male, we are looking for an experienced Cocker home for Andy, preferably one with a fenced in yard. If you believe that you may be able to offer Andy the loving home he so deserves, please contact us to discuss him further.
Joe Cocker (fondly referred to as "J.C.") is a handsome purebred black and tan Cocker Spaniel. As we have not had a black and tan pass through our rescue in a while, we were quite excited to meet J.C.! J.C. has an EXCELLENT TEMPERAMENT and is gentle enough to be placed with young kids. He gets along well with other dogs and should also be fine with cats. J.C. has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to give J.C. a place to call home, please email us at rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. J.C. is looking forward to chasing the autumn leaves with you!
Hello, my name is Kibbles. I am a 5-6 year old female Cocker Spaniel weighing just 25 pounds. I recently came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. Frankly, I'm not altogether sure how I ended up this way, my whole prior life is a bit of a blur (perhaps it's doggie amnesia, who can say). I received a "No Concern" in my shelter behavioral evaluation, which basically means an A++! Although I am a very sweet and gentle girl, no one came to claim me, so I was surrendered to rescue. I do have a "cherry eye," which will be corrected surgically prior to adoption. Overall, though, I am a lovely little girl, very affectionate, easy to walk and very relaxed among people (even kids), as well as other dogs, big and small. I'm even good with cats. I am spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar! So I'm the perfect match for the perfect family that is out there right now looking for ME! If you'd like to meet, please contact Abandoned Angels at rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Love and Licks in the meantime from your friend Kibbles XXOO
Brindle is a handsome 1 year old cairn terrier who is very likely a purebred. He has a beautiful chocolate brown coat with frosted blonde brindle highlights running through it. He has a very playful and loving nature and would likely be fine with even young children. Brindle does very well with other dogs and has shown no aggression towards cats. Brindle has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Brindle a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.
My name is Wheatie Boy ... I am a handsome Wheaten Terrier Mix between 1 and 2 years old. I am a 20 pound blonde baby-doll! I am extremely affectionate and playful and get along well with other pets (I love other dogs). I am sure to make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET! Like all Terriers, I am a low shedder. I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. There's not much more I could ask for, except of course a family to call my own! If you think that family could be yours, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my inbox daily! Love, Wheatie Hello, my name is Heath Bar Crunch. I am a handsome 18 month old Cocker Spaniel/Retriever cross and recently came into Rescue with my good friend Swanky, who is also listed on petfinder. I am named after my favorite Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream (which we dogs aren't supposed to have, but I have been known to steal a lick or two). I am a very friendly boy and my little tail is always going like a propeller. I will make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET, although I have not lived with very young children before, so would probably do best with older kids. I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. For additional information or to request an application to adopt, please contact Abandoned Angels at rescue@nyabandonedangels.com ... Let's do dessert together! Love and Licks till then ... Heath Bar Crunch XXOO
Curly-Q is a handsome 7 year old Cocker Spaniel with a WONDERFUL TEMPERAMENT. He gets along well with everyone, including KIDS, DOGS and even CATS! Curly-Q is in EXCELLENT HEALTH, however as a deaf dog, he is one of our oh-so-special "special needs" pets. Don't feel sorry for him, though. Curly-Q's disability does not affect his zest for life one bit ... his heart hears everything that his ears can't and you'll be amazed at how perceptive he is about the world around him. Curly-Q is a very loving, playful boy and will make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET. Curly-Q has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like more information about Curly-Q, please contact us to discuss him further.
Jerry is a VERY ENDEARING 11 year old Cocker Spaniel who deserved to live out his golden years in security and comfort, shielded by the love of his family. While this is true for all seniors, a dog as SWEET and GENTLE as this one seems especially deserving. Instead, after a period of neglect, Jerry was dumped at the Staten Island pound, where he had been brought for euthanasia, not because he was ill, but because his family no longer wanted to assume the costs of caring for him. Not surprisingly given his age, there were no takers for poor Jerry at the pound, so he was released to Rescue. Jerry was very frightened when he arrived, but in good health, except for a skin infection and needing a dental (both issues have now been addressed). Jerry initially needed to be shaved down due to severe matting, but his coat is now growing back in nicely and he is looking very handsome. Jerry has actually proven to be more beautiful inside than out. He is a big cuddler who loves to give kisses and his little tail is always on the move! Upon leaving our vet's office, Jerry went into boarding briefly, but he found the whole experience rather stressful. Fortunately, a loving foster home was found for him with Angela and Ryan of Brooklyn Heights. Jerry is doing GREAT in foster care and seems to be finding his new life one big adventure. Jerry will make a great addition to virtually any family. He could easily be placed with KIDS as well as with OTHER PETS, both dogs and cats. Jerry is neutered, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you have never considered adopting an older dog, you may very well change your perspective upon meeting Jerry! Senior dogs come with life wisdom and always seems especially grateful for another opportunity to be loved. If you would like to open your heart and home to Jerry, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.
UPDATE: Max has just completed a basic obedience training course and PASSED with flying colors. Follow-up telephone consultations with his trainer will be provided at N/C. BIO: Max is a handsome reddish buff English Cocker Spaniel. This handsome boy is just 2 years old. Max became homeless when his owner passed away. No one in the owner's family would take him in, so Max was brought to a kill shelter on Staten Island. From there he came into rescue. Max is neutered, up-to-date on shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to open your heart and home to Max, please contact us to discuss him further.
Nicole Richie is a beautiful 6 year old jet black poodle. Nicole is definitely a purebred, somewhat larger than a miniature but smaller than a standard, so likely a cross between the two. Nicole was surrendered to the Brooklyn shelter when her owner became ill. As she had spent the whole of her life with this one person, Nicole became very depressed and despondent. Since coming into Rescue, Nicole has begun coming to terms with her loss. She is now ready to give life another chance. Nicole has a gentle spirit and a very tender heart. Tender hearts are easily broken, though, so Nicole's next home must be her last. If you would like more information about adopting this sweet beauty, please contact us to discuss her further. Nicole has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar.
Earl Grey is a handsome 5 year old Maltese/Poodle cross who came into the Brooklyn shelter as a stray. Earl Grey was petrified by the noise and activity of the shelter, but settled right down once he was sprung! Sadly, his gorgeous fluffy coat had to be shaved down due to severe matting, but it will be thick and lush once it grows back in. Earl Grey is an extremely affectionate boy who loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is also very smart! During his first night in his foster home, Earl Grey managed to escape from his crate in order to join the rest of the furry gang on his foster mom's bed. He woke her up with a few gentle licks on her face before curling up against her and falling fast asleep. Earl Grey is a versatile little dog who will do equally well in a studio apartment as on a landed estate ... so you don't need to be gentry to take this sweet little fellow home! Earl Grey has absolutely no aggression and we believe could be placed with young kids. Earl Grey also gets along well with dogs and should be fine with cats. Earl Grey has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Earl Grey a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.
Poppy is a handsome 1 year old pale buff Cocker Spaniel who is coming to us from a neglect situation. Poppy would like everyone to know that he has had enough of high drama, thank you very much. Right now what he wants most is a quiet, settled life. While Poppy does not appear to have been abused, he certainly was not well taken care of in his previous home. He was purchased as a young pup by a family who obviously had no idea how to take care of a dog. Poppy arrived a matted mess, so needed to be shaved down almost to the skin. In these humid days of summer, he seems to be finding it quite a relief! Poppy has a gorgeous coat, however, which will be thick and full once it grows back in. Poppy is somewhat timid with new people (especially men) but warms up quickly. We do not know his history with children, but so far see no reason why he could not be placed with slightly older kids. He is also fine with other pets, absolutely LOVES dogs and should be fine with cats. Poppy has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to help Poppy get a fresh start, please email us for an application. ![]() Beach Bum is an adorable Toy Poodle/Spaniel cross. His coloring reminds us of the summer sand dunes ... a very pale buff with a hint of peach. Beach Bum has just completed an obedience course and can finally say that "Life's a Beach!" (at least in doggie-speak). Our trainer advises that Beach Bum would do best in a quiet ADULT ONLY home with lots of dog experience. Beach Bum can be placed with other dogs, but tends to do best with calm animals who are LARGER than he is (Beach Bum is roughly 15 pounds). Beach Bum is a healthy boy who is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and heartworm negative. If you would like to offer our Beach Bum a place in your year round cabana, please contact us to discuss him further. Beach Bum is waiting to hear from you!
Powder Puff Girl is a lovely 2 year old miniature poodle. She is a true mini poodle weighing 23 pounds and looks to be beautifully bred. She lightly prances rather than walks! Powder Puff Girl came into the Brooklyn shelter as a stray. An effort was made to find her owners through a microchip trace, but no one ever showed to claim her. Powder Puff Girl has a very gentle nature, although she is a little handshy and may become startled by quick movements. She is not at all nippy, though, and could be placed with young children. She does well with other dogs and should also be fine with cats. Powder Puff Girl enjoys cuddling with her people and loves to sleep on the bed snuggled up against a warm body. Powder Puff Girl is in excellent health (except for a mild case of kennel cough, from which she is recovering). She is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to open your heart and home to Powder Puff Girl, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.
Boysenberry Spice is a gorgeous purebred Boykin Spaniel just 14 months old. Boysenberry Spice was about to be surrendered to a kill shelter when a volunteer who was picking up a couple of our Cockers noticed her. She intercepted the owner at the front desk and asked her to consider surrendering Boysenberry Spice to Rescue instead. In no time at all, Boysenberry Spice found herself in our volunteer's car headed towards a comfy kennel, and was spared the trauma of a shelter experience. Boysenberry Spice has since been spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and tested for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. Boysenberry Spice is a very sweet girl who will make an EXCELLENT FAMILY DOG. She gets along well with children as well as with other dogs. If you would like to offer Boysenberry Spice a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.
Rocky Road is a handsome Cocker/Long-haired Dachshund Mix puppy just 7 months old. Rocky was surrendered to the Brooklyn shelter with his brother Beanie, a Wheaten Terrier Mix of about the same age. The reason cited was "landlord problems." We had already committed to taking Beanie when we chanced upon Rocky in a different ward of the shelter. Upon realizing that they had been surrendered together, we did not feel that we could let Beanie down by leaving his brother behind. We have just adopted Beanie out to an experienced Wheaten home, but promised him before he left that Rocky would be just as lucky. Both Rocky and Beanie show signs of having been hit, as they are both somewhat timid and handshy, but neither is aggressive. We have since heard from Beanie's family about what a great dog he is and have every expectation of hearing the same about Rocky once he goes home. Rocky has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Rocky Roads often lead to better things for those who persevere despite rough beginnings. We believe this will be true for this little diamond in the "ruff." If you would like more information about Rocky, please contact us to discuss him further.
Prince William is a handsome 10 month old jet black Cocker Spaniel puppy who came into the Manhattan shelter as an owner surrender. Like most puppies, Prince William is mischievous and full of fun. This playful, loving boy is a total charmer and will make an excellent family pet! Prince William has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. Like any king or queen, you deserve a royal welcome from a four-legged prince upon coming home. Prince will offer all of that and more! To request an application to adopt this regal pup, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com
This adorable 3-4 year old Bichon (perhaps with a touch of terrier) reminds us of a soft white teddy bear ... what the french would call a "peluche". Peluche came into the Manhattan shelter as a stray who went unclaimed. He did very well with both dogs and people on his behavioral evaluation (he is a very kissy dog), so should make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET. As he is quite a sweet-natured little soul, Peluche is also likely do fine with CATS. While kids may outgrow their favorite cuddly toys, the little kid in you is sure to love Peluche forever. At only 15 pounds, Peluche can accompany you almost anywhere ... he's the perfect portable pooch with whom to dine al fresco at your favorite sidewalk cafe this summer. Peluche is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date with all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will even go home with a new leash and collar. If there is a "petit coin de ton coeur" (a little corner of your heart) that has been longing for your very own Peluche, please contact us to discuss him further. In case you have not guessed, he's been longing for you too.
Kayla is a 10 month old buff and white Cocker Spaniel puppy with an undocked tail who was an owner surrender to the Manhattan shelter. Kayla lost her home when her owners moved to a new apartment where dogs were not allowed. Kayla is an EXTREMELY SWEET and LOVING DOG who will make a FABULOUS FAMILY PET. She will be trustworthy with the smallest of children and would be only too happy to grow up alongside them. Kayla has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She is ready to open her heart to a new family and will grace your home with a very special spirit. If you would like more information about Kayla, please contact us to discuss her further. Kayla is waiting to hear from you!
Hello, my name is Grayson. I am a handsome Poodle/Shih Tzu cross with a very soft gray and white hypoallergenic coat. I am a tiny peanut of a dog weighing only 10 pounds (the perfect size for even the smallest NYC apartment!!) Although I am about 9 years old, I have received very little care during my life. I was found in an abandoned house occupied by squatters by a neighbor who heard my cries for help and came to my aid. From her caring hands, I made my way to Rescue. Although I was initially very starved and scared, I have begun to feel much better and have even put on some weight. I have now been neutered, microchipped, am up-to-date with all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I have also had a much needed dental, as many of my teeth had decayed due to extremely poor nutrition. I am finally just about ready to get a fresh start with a new family. I can't remember if I ever had a family to love and care for me, but I am definitely ready for a family now. By the way, I am FULLY HOUSEBROKEN and will let you know when I need to go outside ... I am told that this is a BIG PLUS in my favor. If you would like to help me start my life anew, please contact Abandoned Angels and ask to meet me. You can request an application to adopt by e-mailing rescue@nyabandonedangels.com ... I look forward to hearing from you soon. Love and licks till then, Grayson XXOO

Cookie is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date with all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you are looking for a Chocolate Cookie to become the apple of your eye, then look no further ... Cookie is the one for you! To request an application, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com < |
Hello, my name is Buffy. I am a 5 year old apricot poodle. I lost my home when my owner, an elderly lady, went into a nursing home. A nice family took me in, but they had such an active lifestyle (including two big labradoodles), that I felt very nervous. Although my family loved me very much, they felt that I would be happiest in a calmer environment. All that I really want is to be a cuddly lap dog and someone to be around much of the time. I would do well with a retired person with poodle experience. I have been spayed, microchipped, am up-to-date with all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer me a lap in which to cuddle for all the years to come, please contact Abandoned Angels and arrange to meet me. Love, Buffy < |
A BIG THANK YOU TO MINDY OF GOLDEN RETRIEVER RESCUE AND HER WONDERFUL FAMILY FOR OFFERING GYPSY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME! Gypsy Girl is a beautiful jet black Cocker Spaniel about 4 years old with a natural (undocked tail). Gypsy Girl was found as a stray in the street ... we imagine that the gypsy in her sent her off and wandering. Gypsy Girl has a FABULOUS TEMPERAMENT and could be placed with YOUNG CHILDREN. She also gets along with other pets, both dogs and cats. In short, she will make the perfect FAMILY PET. Gypsy Girl has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to give Gypsy Girl a place to call home, please contact us to discuss her further. To request an application, please email us at rescue@nyabandonedangels.com
Meet Bandito, our very own Masked Man. He is doing his best to conceal his identity behind that overgrown face of his, but isn't fooling anyone. A dog this friendly could never rob a bank or intimidate anyone. Bandito is a 2 year old very pale buff (almost white) Cockapoo with a SUPER TEMPERAMENT. He is very outgoing and could be placed in a home with kids as well as other pets. Bandito came to us from the Brooklyn shelter where he had been turned in as an owner surrender. He is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date with all shots, and heartworm negative. If you would like to offer Bandito a place to call home, please contact us to discuss him further. To request an application to adopt, please email us at rescue@nyabandonedangels.com
Brooklyn Buttercup is a buff female Cocker Spaniel who came into the Brooklyn shelter as a stray. When she went unclaimed at the end of her stray period, sweet Buttercup was surrendered to Rescue. Buttercup obviously led a difficult existence prior to coming into Rescue, so much so that we are finding it quite difficult to assess her age. As her teeth are in great shape, the shelter felt she was around 2, but as she lacks the spunk of a young dog, we believe she could be closer to 6. It has also occurred to us that she may be a young dog who was never given ample time to recover in between litters of pups. Buttercup can be timid with new people, but warms up once she understands that she will not be hurt. Once she trusts, she becomes very loving. Buttercup is very well behaved in the house and does well with other pets (dogs and cats). She has even been known to walk up to another cocker in her foster home and give the other dog a kiss. She recently comforted a newcomer from the pound by giving him a few encouraging licks on the face, as if to tell him, "I've been where you are ... everything will be okay, don't worry." Buttercup has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has recently recovered from a nasty ear infection, but is now doing beautifully. We believe that Buttercup would do best in an experienced Cocker Spaniel home with adults or older kids. As she is so good with other dogs, our strong preference would be to place her with another pet. If you believe that you can offer Buttercup the forever home she so deserves, please contact us to discuss her further. Buttercup is waiting to hear from you!
Mollie and Bailey are owner surrenders from the same home due to a change in family circumstances. As they are deeply bonded, we are seeking to place them together. Mollie is an 18 month old purebred buff female Cocker Spaniel and Bailey is a 7 year old female Spaniel/Shepherd Mix. Both are very SWEET and GENTLE dogs who will make EXCELLENT FAMILY PETS. Mollie and Bailey are spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. Both will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. As she is a young buff female, Mollie knows that she will be in greater demand, but has promised Bailey that she will not leave her. If you have room in your heart and home for one sweet angel, can you find space for a second as well? The fact that one of these girls is a slightly older mixed breed has no bearing on her capacity to fill your home with love. If you would like more information about Mollie and Bailey, please contact us to discuss them further. These sweet sisters are waiting to hear from you!
Rock Star is a 3-4 year old Poodle/Maltese Cross (a "Maltipoo") who came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. Rock Star is a fun-loving, HYPOALLERGENIC dog with loads of personality who weighs approximately 25 pounds. He will make an excellent family pet in a home with children who are mature and dog savvy. Rock Star was severely matted when he came into the shelter, so we decided to treat him to a summer makeover, complete with a new hairdo (known as a "lion clip") and a dental. Rock Star is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you are looking for a new friend with whom to make a splash this summer, Rock Star could be just the dog for you! If you would like more information, please contact us to discuss him further. Rock Star is waiting to hear from you!
Beanie Boy is a 7 month old Poodle puppy, we believe crossed with Wheaten Terrier. Beanie Boy came into Rescue after having been surrendered to the Brooklyn shelter by his family, who were unprepared for the responsibilities of dog ownership. Beanie Boy is a typical puppy, playful and loving. He will make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET. HYPOALLERGENIC dogs (especially puppies) are hard to come by, so don't delay! Beanie Boy is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date with all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar.
Hello, my name is Corky. I am a handsome rust-colored Cocker Spaniel between 1 and 2 years old. I was rescued from a high kill facility after I came down with kennel cough. I tried very hard not to cough so that the shelter staff would not realize that I was sick, as this has sealed the fate of many a dog. But I could not prevent myself from coughing and was soon slated for euthanasia. Thankfully, Abandoned Angels came to my rescue. As no Cocker Spaniel rescuers were situated nearby, they sent a representative from Rottie Rescue to come for me. I hung out with a bunch of rescued Rotties for a couple of weeks while my kennel cough was being treated. I have now decided that Rottie Rescuers are very nice people and that Rotties are also a very nice (and sadly misunderstood) breed. Rottie Rescue also had me professionally groomed, as I was very matted and covered with loads of ticks when I arrived (in truth, I was also really stinky). I look just fabulous now! I am scheduled to be neutered and also to have a cherry eye repaired. I will also be microchipped, fully vaccinated and tested for heartworm prior to my adoption. If you'd like to meet me and perhaps take me home, please contact Abandoned Angels for more information. I'm ready to pop the cork on a bottle of pink champagne in celebration of our new life together! Love, Corky < | Aspen is a handsome 3 year old Cocker Spaniel who came to us from Brooklyn Animal Control. His coloring reminds us of cream soda (a buff so pale it is almost white). Aspen has a WONDERFUL TEMPERAMENT and will make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET. Despite the fact that he has a painful infection in both ears, Aspen has shown no aggression whatsoever. Aspen is currently receiving veterinary treatment for his ears, which are now on the mend. We will also be treating him to a dental cleaning. Aspen has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has also just been professionally groomed. Summer is not too early to begin thinking about Aspen or a best friend with whom to Apres-Ski, so don't delay! For more information about Aspen, please contact us to discuss him further. Aspen is waiting to hear from you! < |
Logan is a happy, playful, fun loving 6 month old male Cocker Spaniel with the most beautiful blond fur. His coat reminds us of an Afghan hound; long and silky. Logan has a natural tail that just wags and wags with joy. He is super sweet and friendly. We believe Logan would make an EXCELLENT family pet. If you are looking for pure, puppy love that will last a lifetime, end your search because Logan is the one! LIVE. LOVE, LAUGH WITH LOGAN. Logan is neutered, vaccinated and HW negative. He will go home with a new leash and collar. Smoochie is a very handsome white Cocker Spaniel with red markings and a silky soft coat. This adorable boy is just 3 years old. Smooch is a very friendly, happy boy who enjoys the company of people and establishes bonds quickly. We believe that Smooch would do best in a calm, ADULT ONLY home or in a home with OLDER KIDS where the activity level is low. Too much noise and too many people coming and going would likely overwhelm him. Smooch is fine with mellow dogs, but might prefer to be the only pet, as he is quite an attention hog and not all that happy to share. Regrettably, he does not like cats. Smooch has been neutered, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like more information about Smoochie, please contact us to discuss him further.
Hollywood Star is a 10-12 month old Terrier Mix (we believe her to be crossed with some form of Retriever). She is almost a carbon copy of the dog who was featured in the recent "Winn Dixie" movie, so we decided to deem her our very own "Hollywood Star." At 33 pounds, Hollywood Star is just about full-grown. She is an extremely happy, friendly girl who will make a WONDERFUL FAMILY PET. Hollywood Star is great with everyone, including KIDS, DOGS and even CATS! There is not a mean bone in her wiggly body. As she has loads of Terrier in her line, Hollywood Star HARDLY SHEDS. What better way to watch your favorite Netflix than with a Hollywood Star curled up at your feet or snuggled against you on the sofa! While the words "Lights, Camera, Action!" are the three favorite words of most Hollywood Stars, ours is waiting with baited breath to hear you say: "Let's Go Home!" If you would like more information about our Hollywood Star, please contact her Agent - Abandoned Angels - to discuss her further.
