Valentine (ADOPTED MARCH 2010)

Valentine says "Peek-a-Boo ... I'm your secret admirer!" This adorable 3 month old female Jack Russell cross is a tiny heartbreaker. What she is mixed with we cannot say, but it is definitely another small breed ... this baby girl is sure to remain petite. Valentine came into the Manhattan Shelter at the tail end of January as a stray. She may have lost her way, but one thing's certain ... as soon as you meet her, you are sure to lose your heart! Valentine has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are ready to find your one true love in time for Valentine's Day, then look no further ... to ask Valentine to "Be Mine", please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Cupid has promised Valentine that he has something special in the works ... she can't wait to discover what he has in store!

Vintage (Adopted, March 2010)

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO SHANNON OF BAY RIDGE, BROOKLYN, FOR OFFERING VINTAGE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

BIO:

Attention collectors of all things VINTAGE!! Whether your passion is wine or antiques, you are sure to fall in love with this limited edition! Our sweet Vintage is an 8-9 year old pale blonde Cocker Spaniel with a story for the ages. You'll have to use your imagination, though, as only she knows the full tale. Vintage came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter, where she had been turned in as a badly neglected stray with severely infected ears. We've now polished her up with grooming, dentistry, and treated her ear infections. She has also been spayed, microchipped, received all of her shots and and tested negative for heartworm. However, we know enough about vintage collectibles to leave the rest alone, as the true beauty of an antique is its patina. True, our Vintage has a few dings here and there, but these are all a part of her history and make her unique. Like all precious heirlooms, Vintage longs to stay in the family forever. If you would like to offer Vintage a foster home or, better still, a forever home to call her own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Vintage is waiting to become a part of your forever collection!

Christmas Carol (Adopted, February 2010)

Christmas Carol is a Cocker/Retriever cross who was recently found wandering alone in a rural upstate area. The good samaritan who found her believes Christmas Carol to have been dumped along the rural stretch of roadside where she picked her up. Nevertheless, she contacted the local pound and posted signs, with no result, following which she contacted rescue. Christmas Carol is believed to be about 5 years old. She is a very calm and sweet-natured girl who loves the company of people and gets along well with other dogs. Christmas Carol has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, has tested negative for heartworm, and even been treated to a dental. If you would like to adopt Christmas Carol, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. She is sure to bring joy and cheer to your holiday season and all seasons to come.

Shimmer (Adopted, February 2010)

Shimmer is an adorable 1 year old female Yorkshire Terrier Mix. She was surrendered to an animal shelter due to complications with the owner's landlord. She has been fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just been professionally groomed, will go home with a new leash and collar. She loves everyone, her shinning personality is contagious. If you would like to brighten your life by adopting or fostering Shimmer, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Thank you!

Knightley (Adopted, February 2010)

Knightley is a 2 year old, charismatic cocker spaniel. Like a true knight, he stands for all that is good in this world. He loves everyone that he meets, and would make an excellent family pet. Knightley has been fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed, and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to make Knightley part of your royal family, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Thank you!

Cupid (Adopted, February 2010)

Say "Hello" to Cupid! This matchmaker is approximately 2 years old, but playful as a puppy. He gets along well with other dogs, but his favorite place is in the arms of the ones he loves. He will shower you with kisses and fill your life with warmth and joy! Cupid has been fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed, and will go home with a new leash and collar. All that Cupid now needs to make his Valentine's Day wish complete is to find his one true love! If you have just been struck by Cupid's doggie arrow to your human heart, and would like to adopt him, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Cupid is waiting to blow a kiss your way.

Gianni Versace (Adopted, February 2010)

NO MORE APPLICATIONS FOR VERSACE, PLEASE!! WE HAVE BEEN INUNDATED WITH EXPRESSIONS OF SUPPORT FOR THIS LITTLE GUY. THANK YOU, EVERYONE, FOR YOUR KINDNESS TOWARDS HIM. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A TAX-DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS HIS MEDICAL CARE, PLEASE SEND TO THE FOLLOWING PAYPAL ADDRESS: DONATION@NYABANDONEDANGELS.COM (PLEASE SPECIFY "FOR GIANNI" IN THE PAYPAL MESSAGE BOX). WITH HEARTFELT THANKS FROM ALL OF US.

BIO:

Gianni Versace is an 8 month old Jack Russell/Italian Greyhound mixed breed puppy who came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter. We intended to take in his sister Donatella as well, but upon arriving at the shelter this morning (1/7/10), we were informed that she had died just an hour beforehand. These poor dogs were brought to ACC by a monstrous couple who claimed that they could not afford to feed them - from their emaciated condition, that could not be more clear. Before surrendering them, however, they obviously waited until they were on the brink of death. Animal cruelty charges are now being pursued and rightfully so. Even if they were catwalk models, Vogue magazine would surely have labeled these poor pups far too thin for a fashion shoot. The survivor, Gianni, is now on emergency IV fluids at our vet's office. Once he is strong enough, he will need to be fed three times per day. We pray that he has not sustained organ damage as a result of starvation and that he will recover. It will be at least a month before he is strong enough to begin a bittersweet new life without his sister, Donatella, with whom he was deeply bonded. Our heart just breaks for him, as well as for poor Donatella, who came so close to being saved. Despite his neglectful beginning, Gianni is a very loving, playful puppy who is trusting of people and friendly towards other dogs. Gianni will be neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and tested for heartworm before adoption. He will also be professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you agree that a dog should look like more than a clothes-hanger and would like to provide Gianni with a loving home in which to continue his recovery, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Gianni believes that full-figured fashion is the order of the day - and would like another cookie to prove it.

Squeeker (Adopted, February 2010)

Squeeker is a beautiful 7 year old black female Cocker Spaniel with white markings on her chest who came into the Staten Island shelter as an owner surrender. Her family was moving and there was no longer any room in their lives for poor Squeek or her sister Truffles (listed separately on petfinder). Squeek has an excellent temperament, so while somewhat neglected, she clearly was not abused. Now that she has been treated to a professional grooming as well as dentistry, she is all ready to go! Squeek has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Squeeker, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. This little angel is sure to squeak her way right into your heart.

Kylie (Adopted, February 2010)

Kylie is a very petite sable female Cocker Spaniel just 3 years old. She's rather upset right now, having been bounced between a few homes before someone did the sensible thing and surrendered her to rescue. Kylie was a pet store purchase by someone who intended to breed her but (thankfully) never got around to it. Kylie has not had a great deal of stability in her life thus far, so would do best in a quiet environment where she can be given the opportunity to bond and feel secure. She definitely needs adult only placement in a low-key household and would likely do best as an only pet. Kylie has now been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Kylie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Kylie is ready to take some baby steps towards reaching her full potential.

Jagger (Adopted, February 2010)

Jagger is a very handsome 1 year old parti-colored Cocker Spaniel with striking black and white markings. Jagger is being surrendered to rescue by his family as they have insufficient time to devote to his training. He is spending too much time crated and has come to hate his crate. At most, Jagger should be gated in a kitchen area going forward. Jagger would do best with an experienced cocker spaniel owner who works from home or otherwise has a lot of time to devote to him. He can be a little stubborn, so needs an alpha-type owner to provide gentle discipline and lots of structure. We are inclined to think that Jagger would do best in an adult only household where someone can really focus on helping him reach his full potential. He is a beautiful dog with a wonderful spirit whose energy simply needs to be chanelled in a positive way. Jagger has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Jagger, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Jagger is ready to rock 'n roll with you!

Thumbelina (Adopted, February 2010)

Thumbelina is a small Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She is approximately 2 years old. Just like her name-sake, she is a sweet little girl who just wants to find her true place in this big world. She does well with children, and other pets (both dogs, and cats). Thumbelina has been fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has been professionally groomed, and will go home with a new leash and collar. If this small girl has touched your heart in a big way, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application to adopt or foster her. Thank you!

Tulah (Adopted, February 2010)

Tulah is a very sweet 6 year old buff and white female Cocker Spaniel who came into the Brooklyn Shelter as a stray. She is in good shape except for a slight cataract in one eye (the other is fine) and an ear infection, which is currently being addressed with medication. Tulah has a wonderful temperament, so could easily be placed in a home with children. She is great with other dogs and should be fine with cats. Tulah has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are looking for your One True Love, then you need look no further than Tulah. Tulah would love to be home in time for Valentine's Day (and sends you a kiss in the meantime!)

Josie (Adopted, February 2010)

Attention all parents: the way to "teach the kids a lesson" is not to throw the family dog into the street. Extraordinarily, Josie's owner did just that when she sought to punish her children for having misbehaved. A friend of the family went looking for Josie and was overyjoyed to find her safe at the Brooklyn Shelter. Upon being contacted, Josie's owner informed Animal Control that her kids no longer deserved a pet and that Josie could not come home. Josie was therefore surrendered to rescue. As mom has obviously failed Parenting 101 (both for dogs and children), we wish that we could help the kids as well. Nevertheless, re-homing Josie is the best that we can do. Josie is an extremely sweet Cocker Spaniel just 2 years old who is at ease with children and friendly with other pets. She is very loving and will make the perfect snuggle bug. Josie has an adorable square face as well as a pink nose, which she will be sporting for Valentine's Day (a permanent feature, actually). What could be cuter? Josie has now been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Josie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Josie is ready to be your new forever friend.

Maybelline (Adopted, February 2010)

Maybelline is a very pretty buff and white female Cocker Spaniel just 2 years old. Maybelline was a stray who came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter. She is named for her beautiful thick eyelashes (one would think she's wearing mascara). Maybelline has an A+ temperament and would be trustworthy in a home with even the smallest of kids. There is nothing "Maybe" about our Maybelline ... dogs just do not come any sweeter than this! Maybelline gets along great with other pets - both dogs and cats - so could easily join a multiple pet household. Maybelline has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. To adopt Maybelline, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. If you are looking for "pretty without make-up" (both inside and out), then Maybelline is surely the dog for you.

Striker (Adopted, February 2010)

Striker, named for his strikingly good looks, is ready to meet you! This wonderful puppy is 5 months old, with an excellent temperament. He is up-to-date on his vaccines, neutered, microchipped, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed, and will go home with a new leash and collar. In his previous home, Striker was given as a Christmas gift. The family could not devote the time and attention to a puppy, so he was surrendered to an animal shelter. Now, Striker is ready for a second chance at Christmas in February! If you would like to adopt Striker, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application

Jack (Adopted, January 2010)

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO CATHY AND FAMILY OF VALLEY STREAM, NY, FOR OFFERING JACK A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!!

Jack is a handsome 3 year old black and white Cocker Spaniel with a winning way about him. This adorable boy is all wags and wiggles! While Jack was dearly loved by his family, he found the toddler in his home quite irritating ... like most Cockers, Jack does not enjoy having his ears pulled, which the baby did not understand. In the end, Jack found himself at the Staten Island pound. Given his background, we are seeking an adult only household or a family with children over the age of 12 for Jack. Jack has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Jack, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. In the meantime, Jack is sending both a Hug and a "Smak" your way!

Suzy (Adopted, January 2010)

Suzie may be the world's best Jack Russell ... of course, it's not a breed we at Cocker Rescue particularly know, but we are completely smitten! Suzie came from Animal Care and Control in NYC, where she had been turned in as a stray. We can't imagine someone not going in search of such a loving dog (kisses galore). Suzie is full of playful personality and 100% housebroken. Who could ask for more?? Anyone looking for a wonderful family dog could not do better. Suzie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Suzie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Suzie is sure to become your new best friend!!

Lord Byron (Adopted, January 2010)

Byron is a handsome black and tan Cocker Spaniel just 2 years old who recently came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter. Byron has so much grace and elegance, he is like poetry in motion ... so of course he is named for a famous poet. Byron is a very sweet and loving dog who would do best in a low-key household. He is fearful of children, as we understand that he was mistreated by a child in a prior home. He may get over this with time, but for the time being we are recommending that he be placed in an adult only home or in a home with kids who are over 12 and dog savvy. Byron has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to read sonnets with Byron, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Byron is waiting to hear from you!

Stevie (Adopted, January 2010)

You may Wonder why anyone would name a pretty little female cocker Stevie ... unless of course you are a Stevie Wonder fan, in which case it all makes sense. Stevie is a 6 year old purebred cocker spaniel who was dumped at Animal Care and Control in Brooklyn by a family who seem to have provided her with zero care. Recurrent, untreated urinary tract infections had left her with two enormous bladder stones that were causing her tremendous pain. Not only was she blinded by untreated juvenile cataracts, but untreated ear infections had left her deaf as well. Now imagine the terror of a blind, deaf dog in terrible pain suddenly thrown in the city kill pound. She screamed louder than Tina Turner, live and uncut. No one could touch her even to provide a little comfort. Heartbreaking though it was, we had no option but to pull Stevie out kicking and screaming with fear, as leaving her to die would have been more heartbreaking still. Stevie has now had surgery to remove her bladder stones (or shall we say rocks), has been spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and tested for heartworm. While we cannot repair her deafness, we are treating her infected ears, which are feeling much better. There is some small prospect of restoring sight to one of her eyes if we can eventually raise the funds, but for the time being it is best that other parts of her heal. We are happy to say that Stevie is now beginning to croon rather than scream. She is absolutely beloved at the vet clinic where she is continuing to recover. Now that she has her bearings, Stevie is allowed to run loose and play with the clinic staff. When they arrive in the mornings, as soon as she senses their footsteps, she comes running towards them with a wagging tail and a happy bark. Her transformation simply moves us to tears. Stevie would like very much to find a foster home or an adoptive home where she will be cherished despite her physical limitations (or even because of them). If you would like to rock and roll with Stevie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. When you see how much love Stevie has to give, you won't Wonder for a second why she was saved. In fact, it was really high time that she received her just desserts.

Twiggy (Adopted, December 2009)

Twiggy is a super friendly, super special mix of Italian Greyhound and Fox Terrier. This long-legged, loving beauty is just 2 years old. Twiggy came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter, where she had been turned in as a stray. Twiggy will make a wonderful family dog - she loves to kiss and cuddle and should be trustworthy with kids. As she enjoys the company of other dogs, Twiggy could easily join a multiple pet household. Twiggy has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Twiggy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Twiggy is sure to bring some holiday cheer into your heart and home during this celebratory season!

Selwyn (Adopted, December 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO CATH AND FAMILY OF EDISON, NJ FOR OFFERING SELWYN A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME.

BIO:

Hello, my name is Selwyn. I am a 6 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel, all black with a hint of white on my chest. I am very active and playful and enjoy the company both of people and other pets. I should make an excellent family dog. I am being surrendered to rescue as my family has fallen upon hard economic times. They love me very much, but are now surviving on food stamps and public assistance. There is not much money to go around and they have been struggling just to buy my dog food. I was neutered as a puppy, so that's all taken care of, and rescue is now getting me current on all of my shots, as well as providing me with a heartworm test, a microchip and a professional grooming. I'll soon be all ready to go! If you are looking for a dog with excellent manners who is an all-around good boy, then I am surely the dog for you. If you would like to adopt me or provide me with a foster home while I am looking for a forever family, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my inbox daily.

Much love,

Selwyn

Bella Donna (Adopted, December 2009)

Bella Donna is a beautiful 18 month old sable Cocker Spaniel who is coming to us as an owner surrender. Bella is a wonderful dog, but is not doing well in her very busy family household, where lots of people are coming in and out. She really needs a low-key, experienced Cocker Spaniel home, probably without children. Bella is a very healthy girl with a lovely nature. She is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to make Bella Donna a part of your family, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. With Bella by your side, you are sure to have a beautiful start to the New Year.
Mickey (Adopted, December 2009)

MICKEY IS NOT READY FOR ADOPTION AT THIS TIME.

A BIG THANK YOU TO BONNIE OF DINGMANS FERRY, PA, FOR OFFERING MICKEY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME. MICKEY IS ENJOYING LIFE AT "CAMP BONNIE" IN THE COMPANY OF BONNIE'S OTHER DOGS, BONNIE IS A GREAT FRIEND TO DOGS IN NEED AND ESPECIALLY TO ABANDONED ANGELS ... THANK YOU, BONNIE!

BIO:

Mickey is an adorable white Toy Poodle/Bichon cross about 1 year old. He is a little guy weighing only 8 pounds. Mickey is so small and delicate that he reminds us of a little white mouse ... drop a 5 lb bag of sugar on him and he might not survive! Life in the great big world has hardly been a Disney experience for this tiny dog. He was surrendered to the Manhattan shelter after having bitten a child. He showed no aggression either in the shelter or in our care, so we placed Mickey in an experienced, adult only poodle home, expecting him to flourish there. However, his adoptive family soon discovered that he is terrified of men. While he did well with his new Mom and was a big hit at her office, where he accompanied her daily, Mickey was returned to rescue after biting his new Dad badly. Sadly, both Mickey and his Dad were victims of the abuse that Mickey experienced in his past, the full extent of which we will never know. We are now looking for a "woman only" home for Mickey where men and kids are infrequent visitors. Mickey would likely do best with a single woman who has the time and patience to help a little dog overcome big fears. Experience with troubled animals is essential. Mickey is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He is even housebroken and will run to the door when he needs to go out. We would prefer to foster Mickey out initially to see how he fares in his next environment before formally adopting him into his next home. If you would like to offer Mickey a foster home, with a view to potentially adopting him in the future, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Glitter (Adopted, December 2009)

All that glitters is not gold, unless of course your name is Glitter! Glitter is the latest sparkly princess to join our rescue. We believe her to be a Cocker Spaniel crossed with Corgi. At 19 pounds, she actually resembles a little fox, so is exceptionally adorable. Combine a herding breed with a water fowl dog and you get one smart dog! Glitter came to us from Brooklyn Animal Care and Control, where she had been turned in as a stray. Despite the stress of having been on the streets of New York City and the noise and chaos of the shelter environment, she nevertheless scored high marks on her shelter temperament test. Glitter has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Glitter, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Glitter is waiting to become your new best friend!

Bella Vista and Bella Vita (Adopted, December 2009)

Bella Vista and Bella Vita are 7 month old female littermates. These adorable purebred Cocker Spaniel puppies came to us as owner surrenders via their breeder. Bella Vista and Bella Vita are typical puppies, happy, mischievous, loving, and playful. They could both use a bit of training, although we admit it is hard to say "no" to anyone so adorable. Bella Vista and Bella Vita are spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. They will be professionally groomed before adoption and will each go home with a new leash and collar. Bella Vista and Bella Vita would love to spend their lives together, but each is willing to go her separate way in the interests of finding the right family. If you would like to adopt one or both of these beautiful girls, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com.

Tony (Adopted, November 2009)

MANY THANKS TO THE REEVES FAMILY OF LARCHMONT, NY FOR OFFERING TONY AND HIS NEW FOSTER BROTHER FRISBEE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Hello, my name is Tony. Whoever says that a slightly older dog is not worth adopting is full of Baloney! I am a handsome 8 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel. I am a beautiful deep rust color. I came into Rescue after having been found as a stray. I am still a little bit fearful (my nerves just could not take life on the streets) but I am finally starting to feel safe and much more like my old self. I am a chubby, happy-go-lucky boy who wants nothing more than to sink into a comfy sofa and watch TV with my special someone. Although I'm not much of an athlete, I enjoy going for walks. I love the autumn leaves and just can't wait to hear them crunching under my little feet. Fall is just my favorite time of year! Pumpkin pie and turkey, here I come!! Let's spend the upcoming holidays together! I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I have just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to help me live happily ever after, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my email inbox daily! Love and Licks from your friend Tony XXOO
Mistletoe (Adopted, November 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO MELISSA OF CONNECTICUT FOR OFFERING MISTLETOE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME.

BIO:

Hello, my name is Mistletoe ... this Christmas season, I hope to enjoy chestnuts roasting by an open fire, with Jack Frost nipping at my nose. I am quite happy to let it snow ... as long as I have someplace warm and safe to go.

My Christmas wish has not been representative of my recent experience, but I know that things can change in the bat of an eye. I had a home once, in my mind's eye I can see it still, but then one day, at the age of 14, I found myself on the streets of New York City. I was alone, it was cold and dark, and I could not find my way back home. My little heart was beating with fear (I have a heart murmur, you see, so I felt my sense of doom all that more acutely). I ran from street to street, from place to place, hungry and tired, too afraid to stop and rest. A kind passerby finally spotted me and called Manhattan ACC to come for me. Once at the shelter, I was placed in a cage with a blanket to warm my thin and weary body and given food and water. Then I began my wait. As the days slipped by, I wondered if I would ever see the familiar face of a beloved family member peeking into my cage, with tears of relief in their eyes at having finally found me. But this happy ending was not to be. I waited and waited, but no one came, until at long last I did see a kind but unknown face of a person who offered me a place in Rescue.

I have a beautiful new name now, "Mistletoe," and I now await my new future. I wonder if, at my age, anyone will ever offer me the opportunity to be loved again. I long to lie at the feet of someone who will take the time to stroke my head and reassure me, as we soak in the scent of roasting chestnuts and the warmth of an evening fire. This is my dream for the twilight of my life.

If you would like to offer me a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call my own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I am microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, have tested negative for heartworm, and will shortly be treated to a dental. As you can see, I am all ready to go home and become your fireside companion ... so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow, just as long as I, at long last, have a happy place to go.

Lady Godiva (Adopted, November 2009)

Fat Actress (otherwise known as Lady) is a curvaceous 8 year old Cocker Spaniel who came to us as an owner surrender. The colors in her coat remind us of a chocolate box: patches of caramel running through white chocolate. Fat Actress wishes she had been born in an era when curvy starlets were better appreciated. Back then, one Fat Actress equalled two of the Olsen Twins! Fat Actress has been wondering if her plump and feminine figure could be one reason why she has been offered so few roles lately. Although she has for the last few weeks been consulting Jenny Craig (and a new diet pal called Valerie) about developing a slimmer bod, what Fat Actress really needs to boost her self-esteem (as well as her metabolism) is a fabulous character part. Fat Actress is well-equipped to audition for a role in your family production, having been spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated and tested for heartworm. If you would like to invite Fat Actress in to read for you, please contact Abandoned Angels to discuss her further. As her agent, we can tell you all the reasons why Fat Actress would be perfect for the role of "Snuggle Bug," for which she has been diligently rehearsing in any warm lap she can find.
FAT ACTRESS WOULD LIKE TO INVITE THE FOLLOWING SPONSORS TO TAKE A BOW:
Many thanks to Treena Horn for generously picking up the tab for some early vetting. And a big special thank you to Howard and Robert of Malverne, NY for providing our drama queen with a safe and loving foster home while she awaits her next big break!

Little Max (Adopted, November 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO JOHN AND NANCY FOR OFFERING LITTLE MAX A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN UPSTATE NEW YORK!

BIO:

Little Max is a 15 pound Cockapoo who found himself surrendered to the Brooklyn Shelter at 12 years of age. If you too have seen your 401(k) go up in smoke, you may appreciate how Max felt ... this was hardly the gentle retirement he was expecting. Little Max was matted to the skin, in desperate need of dentistry, and also had a tumor on his abdomen. We were at the Shelter evaluating some Cocker Spaniels and, seeing what desperate straits he was in, felt unable to leave him behind. We figured that Rescue must somehow rally, even when financial markets don't. All of Little Max's medical needs have now been addressed (including his tumor, which has proven to be benign). Little Max is also receiving a daily dose of Cosequin for arthritis, and a little Soloxine to even out his thyroid levels. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Little Max now has a spring to his step and is clearly feeling bullish about the future. He believes that now is the time for the bear to sleep. If you would like to adopt Little Max, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Although he agrees that we live in a confusing era, Little Max's inner wisdom draws optimism to the fore. He knows that, especially when there are no answers to life's troubling questions, the best immediate solution may be a nice good walk.

Flipper (Adopted. November 2009)

UPDATE:

UPDATE: BIG NEWS! Flipper has moved to a foster home in Maryland that he will be sharing with 8 other rescued Cocker Spaniels. Thank you Rhea and family!

Flipper is a sweet, laid back cocker spaniel that loves his toys. He's a quiet cocker that likes to take his time toodling around the yard sniffing out squirrels and other critters. He is house trained and walks well on a leash. If left alone for long periods of time he is happy to go into his crate and take a snooze. He loves to go for walks and visit with people he meets along the way and he gets along well with other dogs, mostly ignoring them. He likes to be part of a cocker pile when its nap time but is also happy to be with his human -- and that is his definite preference. He follows his foster mom from room to room and if she stops to work on the computer, talk on the phone or cook a little something, he is close by watching to be sure she doesn't get too far away.

Flipper has Cushing's, an adrenal gland problem, but it is well controlled with medication and he no longer has problems with excessive drinking and urination. He's lost a great deal of weight and feels and acts much younger than his years. Do not overlook the love Flipper has to share because of his age or Cushing's. Flipper is a wonderful, loving cocker spaniel that wants to share his life and love with someone special.

"The Prince of Tides" (Adopted, November 2009)

What else to name an ultra-regal young water fowl dog but the Prince of Tides? Our Prince is a handsome 6 year old black and tan Cocker Spaniel who first passed through our rescue as a young boy from the Brooklyn pound. He was adopted out to a loving mother and daughter from Maine (his devoted mom and grandmom), both of whom spoiled him silly. He was so adored that this pauper Prince soon grew accustomed to living like a King! But then grandma died and, soon after, his mom fell ill. No longer able care for him, his mom returned Prince to rescue with a heavy heart. We have promised to find him another loving home. Prince is a very devoted dog who wants to be the center of his person's world. He is not always keen to share attention, so would likely be happiest as the only pet. Prince would also benefit from a strong leader to show him the way. After all, to become a wise Monarch, every Prince needs a High Counselor.

Prince has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has recently had a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Prince, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Open your heart and home to Prince and love will surely flow in like the Tide.

Butter (Adopted, November 2009)

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO ELIZABETH AND FAMILY OF LARCHMONT, NY, FOR OFFERING BUTTER A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH BUTTER IS SHARING WITH THE FAMILY'S OLDER CHESSIE. ELIZABETH REPORTS THAT BUTTER IS BEING A BIG SWEETIE AND GETTING ALONG GREAT WITH EVERYONE! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, ELIZABETH!

Ready for a "little pat of Butter"? Neither margarine or even cream cheese could compare! Meet our Butter, an ultra-regal, ultra-handsome, extra docile and super sweet Cocker Spaniel/Retriever Cross. Butter came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray who went unclaimed. How could anyone live without him, let alone fail to miss him? Like all of life's great mysteries, the answer we will never know. Butter adores people and does beautifully with other dogs. Weighing in at 50 pounds, he is a big baby who loves to play with fluffy toys. With his sunny and mellow personality, he is just a delight to be around. Butter has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Butter, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Once you meet him, no "buttering up" will be required for you to take him home!

Johnny (Adopted, November 2009)

Meet Johnny, our "Johnny-Come-Lately" ... among the newest additions to our rescue! Johnny is a handsome 4-5 year old reddish buff Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. He is a very sweet and docile dog who is gradually coming out of his shell and showing his sunny nature. Johnny came to us quite thin, so may have been on the streets for a while. We have been building him up slowly with a nutrient-rich diet. Johnny gets along well with people and with other dogs so should make an excellent family pet. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Johnny has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. Johnny has Lately been looking for a new family ... if you would like to adopt him, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Johnny is waiting to hear from you!

Solstice (Adopted, November 2009)

My name is Solstice … I am a beautiful 4-5 year old reddish-buff Cocker Spaniel and am believed to have quite a lot of English Cocker in my line. Just as I am named for the astronomical phenomenon during which the sun appears to orbit around the Earth, my life is sure to orbit around you. I am a soulful dog, both loyal and true. After all the love I dedicated to my last family, I have no explanation for why they surrendered me to the Manhattan pound. As in the case of all unanswered questions, somewhere in the cosmos lies the truth, at least for now beyond our reach. I am a great believer in the ethereal – all those things we cannot see, smell, hear or touch but recognize through pure instinct. The moment we meet, I will know you are my owner, just as you will know that I have always been your dog. I am ready to join your life and have been spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and tested for heartworm. I will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to explore what the stars have in store for us, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I am here waiting for you.

Red Bandanna (Adopted, November 2009)

Red Bandana is a handsome 4 year old red Cocker Spaniel who came into the Brooklyn Shelter as a stray. He was matted and filthy, so his first stop upon leaving Animal Control was our groomer's shop. He came out several hours later fluffy and clean and proudly sporting a red kerchief around his neck ... and has been known as "Red Bandana" ever since. Red is a very loving, friendly, playful dog who gets along well with everyone. He will make an excellent family pet. Red has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Red, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Red has his Bandana packed and is all ready to go home!

Reese (Adopted, November 2009)

Here comes Reese ... our little chocolate spitfire! If you are looking for a "pick-me-up", then search no further. Reese is ready to go and has enough energy to keep a bunny hopping. He'd make a great dog for someone with lots of acreage or who wants a training buddy with whom to log in those early morning miles. He would do best in an adult only home or with an active family who enjoy the great outdoors. While very well-intentioned, he's a bit too exuberant to be placed with little kids. Reese has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. To adopt him, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Having fallen in love with this handsome boy's photo, you will surely have no peace until you meet Reese!

Honey Bee (Adopted, October 2009)

Honey Bee is a 3 year old female Cockapoo with a natural tail. This raven-haired beauty came from Animal Control in Brooklyn, where she had been turned in as a stray. Honey Bee is a sugar sweet, super friendly girl who should make an excellent family pet. She has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. All that our Honey Bee now needs to make her life complete is a place called home. If you believe that home could be yours, please contact us to discuss her further. Honey Bee is sure to buzz her way straight into your heart!

Aria(Adopted, October 2009)

Aria is a 3-4 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter, where she had been turned in as a stray. This gorgeous girl reminds us of a beautiful melody - her every note is pitch perfect, so much so that Mozart, Brahms, Bethoveen and Bach would surely have been inspired. Aria gets along well with other pets and as well as kids, so should make a wonderful family pet. She has also been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to make this little blonde soprano a member of your family, then please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Aria is tired of being a solo artist and is ready to sing a duet with you!

Charley (Adopted, October 2009)

Look who's ready for the big screen and a playful character role ... it's our little comedian, Charlie Chaplin. Charlie is a 4 year old reddish buff Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan shelter as a stray who went unclaimed. That quizzical look of his says it all ... who can say why such a wonderful dog failed to get the star treatment he deserves, ending up in the city kill pound instead. Charlie is a wonderful dog who gets along well with people (kids included) as well as other animals, so should make a wonderful family pet. Charlie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and has also been treated to a dental. If you would like to adopt our little film star, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. There's no need to wait for your people to contact his people ... Charlie will be checking his inbox daily and will respond in person!

Disney (Adopted, October 2009)

We are all just dizzy for Disney! This handsome 12-18 month old red and white Cocker Spaniel (who may possibly have a bit of Cavalier King Charles in his line) came into the Brooklyn Shelter recently as an owner surrender. His family decided that the two cherry eyes impeding his vision were simply too costly to repair. As he was also very thin, we find ourselves wondering if his dog food bill was considered an extravagance too. Given all that he has been through, it is not surprising that Disney should be a bit of a shy boy. However, he warms up once given the opportunity to get his bearings and is docile and sweet with people as well as with other dogs. He could easily join a multiple pet household, either with or without kids. Disney has now been neutered, microchipped, has undergone cherry eye surgery, received all of his shots, and tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to welcome Disney as a permanent character within your magic kingdom, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Disney is ready to begin a new fairytale life with you!

Davey (Adopted, October 2009)

Hello, my name is Davy and, to be honest, I'm a little confused right now. You see, I thought nothing of it when I was dropped off at the local groomer's for a make-over. After all, with Halloween around the corner, I wanted to look my best when neighborhood kids came to the door and had even been pondering what sort of costume to wear. I was torn between dressing up as Elvis or Superman and had spent a lot of time mulling the big decision over while under the big blow dryer. I had just about made up my mind to go with Elvis when I realized it was closing time and my owner had still not arrived. The groomer and I waited patiently, but as time went by, we realized that no one was coming for me. That's right, I was simply abandoned, all dressed up (at least in my mind) but with no place to go! When the groomer's attempts to locate my family failed, he held onto me for a few days (I stayed in the back, which was rather distressing), then contacted rescue to come for me. Rescue said they were only too happy to take me in, which was quite reassuring and dispelled my anxiety. I'd heard some disturbing whispers among the other dogs about my possibly being sent to the pound, which thankfully was just gossip. I am only about 9 months old, a typical playful puppy, and quite a happy boy. I believe I could make a new family happy if given half a chance (of course, after all of this drama, I'd prefer to be bathed at home, thank you very much). If you would like to bring me home for the upcoming holidays and help me choose a costume, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. At this point, I have quite mixed feelings about dressing up as Elvis and would appreciate some new ideas. I have been neutered, microchipped, am up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I'm all set to help you choose your annual pumpkin, too ... if you don't mind, though, I'd like an extra big one, as it's my very first Halloween, after all.

Maks(Adopted, October 2009)

Maks is a handsome 9 month old Cockapoo. This sweetheart of a pup was surrendered to rescue by his family when they discovered that puppies - while a lot of fun and games - also involve a lot of work! Maks is a fun-loving, active puppy who loves kids and other dogs, but does need an experienced dog owner to show him the ropes. Like most puppies, he needs some help with housebreaking and for some boundaries to be set where puppy antics are concerned. Maks responds well to guidance, though, and takes gentle correction in stride ... he is eager to learn and eager to please! Maks has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt this little ball of fun (as well as mischief), please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Maks is waiting to hear from you!

Red Bull (Adopted, October 2009)

Red Bull (fondly known as "Bully Bear") is a handsome red male Cocker Spaniel with beautiful blonde highlights. This good-looking boy is just 2 years old. Bully came to us from Brooklyn Animal Care and Control, where he was turned in as an owner surrender. While Bully is a very loyal and loving dog, his family's plans simply did not include him. We believe that Bully will do best in an adult only, experienced Cocker Spaniel home. He is sure to prove a very loyal companion. Bully has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Bully has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt our Bully Bear, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bully is waiting to become your new best friend!

Carelo (Adopted, September 2009)

Carelo is a handsome 4 year old red Cocker Spaniel who came to us from Brooklyn Animal Care and Control as a stray. While malnourished and suffering from a skin infection, Carelo was nevertheless all smiles. He is our "devil-may-care" boy, but is 100% angel. Carelo is an active dog who loves people and gets along well with other pets. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will shortly be treated to a dental as well. While Carelo now has scarcely a "care-in-the-world", he is still looking for his forever family. If that family could be yours, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Carelo has been looking high and lo for you!

Louis Vuitton (Adopted, September 2009)

Louis Vuitton is a handsome puredbred Cocker Spaniel, 9-10 years old. He has an EXCEPTIONAL TEMPERAMENT and will make a wonderful family pet. Louis came to us from Manhattan Animal Care and Control, where he had been turned in as a stray. He had a large growth on his belly, which has now been removed, biopsied, and found to be benign. Louis loves to give kisses and has a demeanor so gentle that we would place him with an infant. He loves kids and gets along great with other pets, both dogs and cats. Louis has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just had full dentistry as well as a professional grooming, so is all ready to go! Although he is named after a famous designer, Louis Vuitton needs to land in the lap of love (the lap of luxury is not essential). If you are seeking one of life's treasures, then you need look no further than this sweet older dog's loyal and loving heart. To offer Louis a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Louis Vuitton is ready to be your newest life-long accessory. Like the little black dress, he's a timeless classic ... good for all occasions.

Legend (Adopted, September 2009)

Hello, my name is Legend. I am a handsome sable-merle Cocker Spaniel with gorgeous mocha and white markings. I am just 2 years old and a legend in my own time (the James Dean of Cockers)! I came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray who went unclaimed. Given my gorgeous good looks, everyone was sure my family would come looking for me. But by the end of my stray time there was still no sign of them, so I was released to Rescue. I am a very friendly boy who gets along well with people and other pets, so I should make an excellent family dog. As my background is unknown, a family with kids 12 and up is recommended for me. I have been neutered, microchipped, am up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt me, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I am Legend ... and ready to make history with my new family!

Dion (Adopted, September 2009)

Dion is a handsome 2 year old chocolate Cockapoo with a super temperament. Dion recently came to us from Brooklyn Animal Care and Control, where he was turned in as an owner surrender. From Dion's condition, it was clear that his family simply had no time for him. He was infested with fleas and had obviously never been to a groomer, as he was matted to the skin. While he has a stunningly beautiful coat, sadly we could not save it, so he is sporting a summer crew cut for now. In this high heat and humidity, he seems to be finding his "new do" quite a relief. Dion is a very happy-to-lucky sort of dog who should make a good pet for a family looking for a hypoallergenic addition to the household (as a Cockapoo, Dion is "no shed"). He is quite playful, great with other dogs, and enjoys giving kisses. While he was awful for grooming, one can hardly blame him ... but once he establishes a relationship and regular routine with a professional groomer, we hope he will become de-sensitized to the clipper and blow dryer. On all other behavioral fronts, however, Dion gets high marks. He has now been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Dion, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Dion is ready to become your new best friend!

Jeter (Adopted, September 2009)

Jeter is a handsome 7 month old red sable Cocker Spaniel with hazel eyes. Jeter came into the Brooklyn Shelter as a stray who went unclaimed. We are simply amazed that no one came looking, as Jeter is in every way a Home Run! This playful and affectionate puppy is full of fun and should make an excellent family pet. Jeter has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are ready to invite Jeter into your Hall of Fame, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Once you meet him, your heart will fly straight out of the ballpark.

Kandy(Adopted, September 2009)

Kandy is a very pretty female Cocker Spaniel just 2 years old. She is a gorgeous buff girl with adorable white markings. Kandy was surrendered to Rescue when her family's life circumstances changed. She has always been a very pampered girl and is a well-adjusted pet. Kandy gets along well with all people, including kids. She has little experience with other dogs, so might or might not be receptive to joining a multiple pet household. Kandy has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you have a sweet spot in your heart for Kandy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Kandy is waiting to hear from you!

Moondance (Adopted, September 2009)

Tiara - (Adopted, September 2009)

Tiara is a gorgeous 1-2 year old sable Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan shelter as a stray. We were so stunned by how pretty she is that we immediately envisaged her wearing a crown of gemstones - and christened her Tiara. Sable Cocker Spaniels are very rare in rescue - we see maybe two or three a year - so it's always rather exciting when one of these mocha-colored beauties comes prancing in. Tiara has surely seen some hard times, though. She is quite shy with new people and requires a gentle approach before she is willing to be friends, a sure sign that she was mistreated in some way. She quickly forgets it all when one tempts her with a ball - after all, every princess needs her orb. Sadly, Tiara is developing a juvenile cataract in one eye, which we hope to have taken care of through a summer fundraiser. In the meantime, she has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Tiara is currently being treated for an ear infection, but will soon be right as "reign". She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to foster Tiara or, better still, provide her with an adoptive home to call her own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Tiara is sure to become your crowning glory!

F. Lee Bailey (Adopted, September 2009)

Have you ever been in so much trouble, you could have used the famous attorney, F. Lee Bailey, to bail you out? Well, it happened to me recently. I am a sad abuse case who recently arrived in Rescue quite emaciated (and this was after having been held in the Staten Island pound for several weeks, where I received regular meals). My rescuers remain quite horrified, as beneath my handsome red coat both my spine and ribs are showing. So you can imagine the condition I was in when I first arrived as an owner turn-in. My owners surrendered me claiming that I had bit their child. I don't remember what specifically triggered the incident, except that I was terribly hungry. The child may have had food in her hand or I might have smelled something very delicious on her breath. For what reason other than hunger would a dog with such a sweet nature, tail always wagging, resort to such extreme measures, especially in relation to a child he really loved? I was just so desperate to get something to eat that I simply lost my mind! F. Lee Bailey would no doubt call it a case of temporary insanity - which is just why I was released to Rescue and given another chance. Now that I am receiving three square meals a day (to build me up), I am back to being a very happy, wiggly boy. I am hoping that some kind person will be able to see my bite incident for what it was and to look beyond my tragic past. The first 8 years of my life may not have been the best, but Rescue believes my future to be bright - and promises me it will be filled with lots of snacks. If you would like to offer me a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call my own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. All I need is a second chance!

With love,
Bailey

Flash (Adopted, August 2009)

Flash is a handsome 1 year old black cockapoo with white markings on his feet and chest who was recently surrendered to the Staten Island Shelter by his family due to lack of time. He has a very sweet nature and should make an excellent family pet. Flash has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar/ Flash will be gone in a flash, so don't delay ... please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application!

Woody (Adopted, August 2009)

My name is Woody. I am a 5-6 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel who was turned into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. Like many a Cocker before me, I became scared and upset in the Shelter environment, with the result that I received a poor behavioral assessment. The truth is, I am just a very sensitive soul, and my frazzled nerves simply could not take the noise, fear, and confusion inherent in a shelter environment. Once I was labelled a difficult case, my adoption prospects were non-existent. I kept asking for someone to understand what I was going through and sympathize, but sadly no one would. Then I developed kennel cough and was slated for euthanasia. I thought I had met my end for sure when, suddenly, I was pulled back from the brink!! Thanks to Rescue, I am now safe and secure in a foster home, where I am finally showing my true colors. I am a very sweet dog with a gentle nature who gets along well with other pets. I have so far met some older kids and have behaved beautifully with them. I am currently overcoming kennel cough, following which I will be neutered, will have a tiny cherry eye repaired, and also receive a dental. In the meantime, I have received all of my shots and am current on my heartworm test. I will make a wonderful companion for someone who leads a low-key lifestyle and is looking for a quiet dog to love and cherish. If you would like to adopt me, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I will be checking my email inbox daily. With lots of love in the meantime, Woody XXOO.

Remington Steele (Adopted, August 2009)

Meet Remington Steele, the most debonaire of private eyes who also has a nose that knows. Remington was found as a stray in a rural upstate area and surrendered to rescue when his owners could not be found. He is a handsome red and white boy with a natural (undocked) tail that he loves to swish like a giant feather. Remington is a very happy, friendly boy who should do fine in a home with older, dog-experienced kids (he is a might too energetic for toddlers). He does beautifully with other dogs and would likely be fine with cats (but might chase initially, like any investigator in hot pursuit of a lead). Remington has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to play "I Spy" with Remington Steele, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Remington is waiting to hear from you!

Dex Dexter (Adopted, August 2009)

Dex Dexter is a handsome 10 month old Cockalier (a Cavalier King Charles/Cocker Spaniel Cross). Dex is being surrendered to Rescue as he is becoming stressed by the children in his current home. While he is a very loving and playful dog, the activity level in the home is simply too high for Dex to take. In a lower key environment, however, Dex should do just great. If you can offer Dex a quiet, adult-only home, then he is ready to reward you with years of loyal companionship! Dex has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Dex, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Dex is waiting to hear from you!

Cindee (Adopted, August 2009)

UPDATE: CINDEE HAD HER MAKEOVER, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GIRL SHE IS!
Pardon my appearance ... I've just been spayed and have not yet had the opportunity to have my summer make-over. Once my stitches dissolve, I will be professionally groomed. In the meantime, I'm posting my shelter photo to give you a general idea of how cute I am. My name is Cindee. I am a sweet and fluffy blonde Cocker Spaniel, just two years old. It's a sin how my appearance has been allowed to deteriorate, but this is what happens when a girl is taken for granted. In the present economic climate, I understand the need to cut back on beauty treatments, but a good brushing now and again would have been much appreciated. After all, a dog is a reflection of her owner and I want to make my family look good! I was rather shocked to find myself at Brooklyn Animal Care and Control recently - hardly a "spa treatment" kind of place. One could really chip a nail over there, not to mention the fact that the other guests were pretty rowdy. The good news is that I checked out pretty quick! I have now been spayed, microchipped, gotten myself up-to-date on all shots, and been tested for heartworm. I will be going home nice and clean, with a glam "cocker clip" and a new leash and collar. I have a really good temperament, so I should make an excellent family dog, and other pets are okay by me. Yes, I'm a bit of a diva, but I am quite willing to share (okay, maybe not the rhinestone collar I've got my eye on, but the water bowl is fine). If you would like to make me a part of your pack - or adopt me as a lone princess to adorn your castle - please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I say fiddle-dee-dee to all my past misfortunes ... just treat me well going forward and I'll be your gal pal forever. See you soon!

Peanut Butter (Adopted, August 2009)

Hello, my name is Peanut Butter ("Peanut" for short). I am a very small and petite female Cocker Spaniel weighing under 20 pounds. I am just 4 years old. I came into Rescue when my family decided that they no longer had room for me in their lives. As I am such a little Peanut of a dog, I really did not take up much space at all, so I am rather confused by their logic. At first I was very scared and nervous being in a new place, but I am starting to feel safe and beginning to make friends with all the other Cockers here. I am seeking an adult only home, ideally with prior Cocker Spaniel experience or experience with rescued dogs. With my own family I am very loyal loving, but with strangers I can be a bit fearful. I have been spayed, microchipped, am up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt me, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Just as Peanut Butter is not complete without a slather of Jam or Jelly, I will not be complete until I find a home where I am truly loved. I will be checking my email daily awaiting news from my soulmate, who I just know is out there, looking for me.

Magnolia (Maggie) (Adopted, August 2009)

Magnolia is a very pretty 1 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel, who was turned into the Brooklyn Shelter as an owner surrender due to lack of time. Maggie is a very petite girl who weighs in under 20 pounds. She is also cupcake sweet ... so of course we named her after Manhattan's famous bakery, Magnolia Cafe. Maggie is a very calm and gentle girl who behaves herself beautifully. She is easy to handle and was excellent for her recent grooming. She should make a wonderful family pet. Maggie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Maggie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Maggie is sure to bring some sweetness to your life!

Blake (Adopted, August 2009)

Blake is a handsome 2 year old black and white Cocker Spaniel with a wonderful temperament. Anyone looking for a FABULOUS FAMILY DOG need look no further ... Blake takes the cake (and the frosting, too). Blake receives a gold star for health as well as temperament. He loves everybody (kids and other dogs included), so could easily join a multi-pet household. Blake has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Blake, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application

Rex (ADOPTED, AUGUST 2009)

Rex Ryan is a handsome 3-4 year old red Cocker Spaniel with a splash of white on his chest. He is a real football afficianado - the New York Jets being his favorite team, of course. Rex came to us from the Manhattan Shelter, where he was turned in as an owner surrender. The reason given was lack of time. Rex received a "no concern" on his shelter evaluation, so should make an excellent family pet. He'd love to spend time in the backyard with kids as they throw passes to one another ... no one will cheer louder than Rex when one of them scores a touchdown! Rex is a very healthy boy who is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and heartworm negative. He has just had surgery to correct double cherry eye (a slight protrusion of the third eyelid, which is common in Cocker Spaniels). His eyes are a little bit puffy right now, but within a week or two they will look cosmetically just great. Rex will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are looking for a great companion with whom to watch the game - whoever your favorite team may be - Rex Ryan is surely the dog for you. To adopt Rex, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Rex is waiting to hear from you (or perhaps your agent).

Boris Becker (Adopted, August 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO KATE OF MAHWAH, NJ, FOR OFFERING BORIS A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Meet our little Wimbledon champ ... an adorable 3 year old Cocker Spaniel named Boris (after Boris Becker, of course). Like the famous pro, our Boris will turn a somersault in pursuit of a tennis ball, but has such grace and talent that he can win without a racket. He's the most playful guy around and the quintessential sportsman. Boris was turned into the Brooklyn Shelter as a stray who went unclaimed. Despite the kennel cough he contracted, we immediately recognized Boris as a champ. Boris is now hitting the court with the rest of the gang in Rescue, where there are plenty of tennis balls to go around. Once he recovers from his cold, Boris will be neutered and treated to a dental. In the meantime, he has been microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to perfect your swing with Boris by your side, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Boris is waiting to put some "love" back in your game.

Santi (Adopted,August 2009)

Hello, my name is Santi. I am a very handsome 3 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel. I am a big boy with a big heart. I LOVE EVERYONE, both people (including kids) and other dogs. In short, I am a great big mush who will make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET. I love to cuddle and give kisses, so put on your favorite lipstick, girls, and get ready to pucker up!! I am a little on the tubby side right now, but my thyroid has tested normal, so it's obviously just a case of my having been fed a poor diet in the past. I am now on a low-cal dog food and getting lots of exercise ... and substituting carrots and apple slices for my former favorite snack, which was of course the cookie. I have been neutered, microchipped, am up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. As I was very matted upon coming into Rescue, I have been shaved down for the summer ... however, I will have a beautiful, thick rust colored coat when my fur grows in. I will come to you freshly bathed and sporting a new leash and collar. If you are looking for an EXCEPTIONALLY LOVING DOG who loves to play ball and will adore spending time with you, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be waiting to hear from you and look forward to becoming your new best friend!

Elvis Presley (Adopted, August 2009)

Elvis is a handsome 1 year old male Cocker Spaniel with a gorgeous deep red coat. Elvis is a shy boy who is a little scared right now. He is the type of dog who needs some time to warm up before becoming joined at the hip to his new "person." For Elvis, the trust factor is a little bit of a hurdle. Once he crosses it, there is no looking back - he becomes loyal and true, jumping up to play and give kisses, and even giving paw. He also enjoys cuddling on the couch next to his person. Elvis will need time to build his confidence and has benefitted from spending time with his new friend Santi, another cocker in our rescue who is very confident and secure. Although he could certainly be an only pet, we suspect that Elvis would do best in a home with another well-adjusted dog. Elvis has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Elvis, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Our little "king of rock" is waiting to hear from you. Elvis Presley is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Chayanne (Adopted, August 2009)

Hello, my name is Chayanne, and this is a courtesy posting for my rescuer, Lucy. Lucy found me on a busy highway a few weeks ago, where I was dodging cars. Of course she stopped and took me out of harm's way. I have been hanging my hat at Lucy's place since then. At first she looked diligently for my owners, but when it became clear that no one would be claiming me, Lucy contacted rescue with a view to re-homing me. Unfortunately, Lucy works long hours, so I am often alone and that makes me unhappy. Would you like to make me a part of your family? I am a handsome buff boy and thought to be about 6 years old. I have been neutered, microchipped, am up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt me, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Lucy and I will be waiting to hear from you!

Your Friend,

Chayanne

Harry Potter (Adopted, August 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO MINDY OF SUNSHINE GOLDEN OLDIES GOLDEN RETRIEVER RESCUE AND HER WONDERFUL FAMILY FOR OFFERING HARRY POTTER A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN UPSTATE NEW YORK ... HARRY POTTER IS ENJOYING THE COUNTRY LIFE, WHICH HE IS SHARING WITH SEVERAL SENIOR GOLDENS AND TWO OTHER COCKER SPANIELS ADOPTED BY MINDY AND HER FAMILY FROM ABANDONED ANGELS.

WHO CAN BELIEVE IT? It's the Tenth Anniversary of the publication of the first Harry Potter book! In honor of this famous British fantasy character's tenth birthday, we have named this handsome 10 year old English Cocker after J.K. Rowling's famous hero. We wonder what Harry and his friends from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry would make of this poor dog's plight. Surely they would find our Harry Potter the victim of treachery as bad as any the most evil sorcerer could inflict. After 10 years of loyal service to his family, our little red wizard found himself dumped at a kill shelter. The reason? His family simply did not want him anymore. Their last name must have been Voldemort, for who else could have been so heartless? Nevertheless, despite his plight, our Harry Potter did not despair. Instead, even with age and evil forces working to thwart him, Harry Potter used his wizardry to cast a magic spell and find his way to rescue. Harry Potter has now been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. In short, he's all set to conquer the Wizarding world! If you would like to offer Harry Potter a loving foster home or, better still, a forever home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. You don't have to believe in witchcraft to help Harry Potter ... after all, when love abounds, magic is everywhere. Or haven't you heard?

Gulliver (Adopted, August 2009)

Gulliver is a handsome 6-7 year old black Cocker Spaniel with a bit of white on his muzzle and chest who was found as a stray on Long Island. When his owners could not be found, Gulliver was surrendered to rescue. Gulliver is an extremely sweet dog who is good with people and other animals. He is fully housebroken and very gentle, so could wear a variety of hats ... whether family dog or companion to an older person. Gulliver has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to help Gulliver end his Travels, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Gulliver is waiting to hear from you! Gulliver is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Libby (Adopted, August 2009)

Libby is a 2-3 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We believe her to be a purebred, but she could be a bit of a mix, we're not entirely sure. Libby was found running through the streets of Flushing over the 4th of July weekend, having recently given birth to a litter of pups. We believe her to have been dumped after being used as a breeding dog. What became of her babies we do not know. Libby was rescued by a good samaritan and then came to us via another rescue who thought we might be best positioned to place her as spaniel lovers. Given that she is still lactating, Libby cannot yet be spayed, therefore we will be holding onto her for the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, Libby has been microchipped, has received all of her shots, and has been tested for heartworm (negative). She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to help Libby celebrate her new found liberty as a member of your family, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Libby will be ready for adoption in early August.

Bentley (Adopted, July 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO KATE AND FAMILY FOR OFFERING BENTLEY A PLACE IN THEIR COCKER PACK. BENTLEY IS HANGING HIS HAT IN SUBURBAN NJ, WHERE KATE REPORTS THAT HE IS DOING JUST GREAT.

BIO:

Have you heard the news? In the current economic climate, it's considered "unfashionable" to be seen behind the wheel of a Rolls or a Bentley. Even those who can afford it have put the private jet away, as it just "does not look right" to be "flaunting it" in the light of global financial woe. Whether you are among those who have opted to put the fancy car away (or take the bus for other reasons) we have the perfect alternative: four paws instead of four tires! It's the Other Bentley, an adorable 5 year old buff and white Cocker Spaniel with some of the longest ears we have ever seen. He may not hug the road, but he will provide lots of hugs (literally). Our Bentley is incredibly affectionate, with a personality like sunshine. You'll be immediately smitten, we can almost guarantee it. Bentley has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. We have treated him both to a dental as well as to a professional grooming, both of which he badly needed. If you would like to adopt Bentley, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. There could be nothing more politically correct than owning this particular Bentley right now. In fact, with Bentley at your side, you'll find yourself quite proud to be hoofing it.

Beauty aka Pebbles (Adopted, July 2009)

Beauty is a gorgeous red and white purebred Cocker Spaniel with an undocked tail. She is just 3 years old. Beauty was owned by a military family from Long Island who were called to duty, as a result of which Beauty lost her home. Beauty is a WONDERFUL FAMILY DOG who has lived with multiple children under the age of seven. She will make a great pet for a family with young kids. Beauty gets along well with other dogs, so could easily join a multiple pet household. There is no Beast in this Beauty, who appears to have no aggression whatsoever. Beauty has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She is also FULLY HOUSEBROKEN. If you would like to adopt Beauty, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Beauty is waiting to hear from you! Beauty is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
Willy (Adopted, July 2009)

Willy is a handsome 10 year old buff male Cocker Spaniel who recently came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. What a sad graduation to life as a senior, to be deemed unworthy of living out one's golden years as a member of the family and to be cruelly dumped on the streets of New York City. Sadder still is the fact that Willy has the most FABULOUS TEMPERAMENT - so there can be no lame excuses for having treated him with such disregard. Willy will make a WONDERFUL FAMILY PET, so much so that he could easily be placed in a home with kids. Despite all he has been through, he has no aggression whatsoever. Willy has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. We have treated him to a much-needed dental, a professional grooming and a new leash and collar. Willy is now ready to go home ... could that home be yours? Whoever adopts him will have won the canine lotto, so now's the time to give lady luck her chance. If you would like to adopt Willy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Willy is waiting to hear from you!

Snuggles (Adopted, July 2009)

Hi, my name is Snuggle. I am a handsome buff and white Cocker Spaniel just 3 years old. Can you guess what my favorite pastime is? That's right, it's SNUGGLING! I was recently surrendered to the Brooklyn Shelter by my owner, with whom I had spent the last few years. I was given to her by a friend who did not treat me very well (I came to her thin and sickly ... when my mom saw my condition, that was the end of the friendship). Well, after a few years, my owner had a change of life circumstances and could no longer care for me. Before surrendering me to the city shelter, she contacted Rescue and asked that they keep an eye out for me. And that's how I became an Abandoned Angel. I am a very sweet and loving boy and believe I have all the skills required of a good family pet. I have an excellent disposition and get along well both with kids and other animals. I have now been neutered, microchipped, am up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. As you will see from my photo, I have a very thick and fluffy coat, but by the time we meet in person, I will be sporting a summer crew cut, as I am currently very matted. I will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to become my new Snuggle Bunny, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application ... I'll be waiting to hear from you!

Lots of love in the meantime,

Snuggle XXOO

Lorna (Adopted, July 2009)

Lorna is a very pretty 3 year old female Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. She is a very sweet, quiet dog who is easy to please (and herself very pleasing). We are inclined to think that Lorna would do best in a home with older kids or in an adult only environment. Very young children would likely stress her out. Lorna is currently being treated for a skin infection with antibiotics and medicated baths, following which she will be spayed. In the meantime, she has been fully vaccinated, microchipped, and has tested negative for heartworm. Lorna has also been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Lorna, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Lorna is waiting to hear from you.

Bambi (Adopted, July 2009)

Who's the pretty blonde with the doe-like eyes? This newcomer to Rescue is called Bambi. She is about a year old and came to us from the Manhattan Shelter, where she was turned in as an owner surrender. Bambi is a shy and sweet girl with a natural (undocked) tail who may become a bit skittish when frightened. She needs a calm and quiet home where someone can provide her with some much-needed stability and reassurance. We would prefer an adult only home, or a home with older, dog-experienced kids (12 and up) for Bambi. She would do best in an environment where the activity level is generally low. Bambi has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Bambi, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bambi is waiting to hear from you.

Summer (Adopted, July 2009)

Summer is a very pretty 5 year old female Cocker Spaniel. Her gorgeous red and white coloring makes us think of sunsets and sand, which make the summer season so special. Summer came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray who went unclaimed. Once her stray hold was up she came into rescue. Summer is a very quiet, level-headed dog with a gentle nature who seems to get along well with everyone, both people and other pets. She is sure to make a wonderful companion to whoever is lucky enough to become her new owner. Summer has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Summer, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Summer is waiting to share her sunshine with you!

Chocolate Charlie (Adopted, July 2009)

Meet Chocolate Charlie ... a handsome 9 month old Cocker Spaniel puppy with hazel eyes who is coming to us as an owner surrender. While he is greatly loved by his current family, the activity level of young children in the home is overwhelming to him. We are therefore seeking an adult only home for Chocolate Charlie, preferably one with prior Cocker Spaniel experience. Chocolate Charlie is a wonderful pup who will make a delightful companion in a low-key household, perhaps with a couple of empty-nesters. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Chocolate Charlie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. One kiss from Charlie and you'll be a confirmed Chocaholic!

Daizy (Adopted, July 2009)

Daizy is a very pretty, pale buff female Cocker Spaniel just 2 years old. This delicate flower came into rescue from the Manhattan Shelter, where she had been turned in as a stray. She was rather wilted, covered from head to toe in rock hard mats and a urine soaked coat. We suspect this adorable sweetheart had not seen a brush or a bath since being groomed by her loving canine mother. Despite it all, what a beauty peered out at us (behind two cherry eyes no less), a real "diamond in the ruff." Daizy has a squarish muzzle and a gorgeous face, both of which are completely kissable! After a day of rest, Daizy enjoyed a Sunday make-over by our groomer, who shaved her down and gave her a much-needed bath. She's now feeling much better and is scheduled for her spay and cherry eye surgery later this week. Daizy's temperament is nothing short of SUGAR-SWEET, so much so that we would feel confident in placing her with a baby. She'll make a fabulous FAMILY DOG! Daizy is up-to-date on all shots, microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm, and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to add Daizy to your family's bouquet, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application ... she'll be gone faster than a diamond can flash, so don't delay!

Goldie Lox (Loxy) (Adopted, July 2009)

Goldie Lox ("Loxy") is a beautiful 3 year old buff Cocker Spaniel who came into the Brooklyn Shelter as a stray. She can best be described as a kissable, hugable "wiggle butt" who loves to roll over onto her back for belly rubs. Loxy is just as sweet as they come, so much so that she could be placed with the smallest of kids. She will make a WONDERFUL FAMILY PET! Loxy has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Loxy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Loxy is waiting to hear from you!

Cubby (Adopted, July 2009)

Cubby is a handsome 8 month old Cocker Spaniel puppy whose family surrendered him to the Manhattan Shelter when they simply lost interest in their pet. Cubby reminds us of a kid in kindergarten - he's always on the go, full of energy and, of course, is prone to puppy mischief. Cubby is super cuddly and loves to nibble on one's fingers in typical puppy fashion ... he may even be the world's best kisser. Cubby has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. Cubby will make great company at your holiday barbecue this 4th of July and is ready to enjoy a burger and hot dog with the rest of the crowd. If you would like to adopt Cubby, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. This star spangled Cocker is waiting to hear from you!

Precious Angel (Adopted, July 2009)

Precious Angel is a 2 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan Shelter as an owner surrender. Precious Angel is a beautiful buff girl with a wonderful temperament who will make an excellent family pet. She gets along well with other dogs, so could easily join a multiple pet household. Precious Angel has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Precious Angel, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. This precious girl is waiting to hear from you!

Copper Penny (Adopted, July 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO DEB OF STATEN ISLAND FOR OFFERING COPPER PENNY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME.

BIO:

Copper Penny is a very beautiful reddish brown Cocker Spaniel just 3 years old. Copper Penny was surrendered to the Staten Island shelter after having bitten a child, following which she was beaten by her owners with such severity that she was bruised from head to toe. We do not know what precipitated the bite, but we cannot believe that Copper Penny was to blame. After extensive interraction, we have found her to be a very mild girl. Since the beating, Copper Penny has become very shy and fearful. She flinches when approached and may crouch down on the ground, as if hoping to go unnoticed. Although clearly afraid, she exhibits no aggression when being handled. Once she understands that she will not be hurt, she comes around quite quickly. Copper Penny loves to be petted and will roll onto her back for a belly rub once trust has been established. Given her history, Copper Penny will obviously require an adult only home, but is sure to prove a loyal companion to someone who will treat her with care and compassion. She would also prefer to be the only dog in the home. Copper Penny was unlucky in love in her first family, but we still believe her to be a lucky coin. Copper Penny has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Copper Penny, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Copper Penny is waiting to hear from you.

Buster (Adopted, June 2009)

Buster is a handsome 3 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel whose coloring reminds us of saddle shoes ... the "Buster Browns" that so many of us used to wear as kids. He is a handsome black and white boy with lots of patches and speckles running through his coat. Buster is quite a petite male who weighs just 20 pounds. Buster lost his home due to the arrival of a new human baby in the family. Sadly, his mom and dad concluded that there was just not enough time or money to go around and decided that Buster had to go. Buster is a playful and loving dog who should make an excellent family pet in a home with slightly older kids (we would suggest age 12 and up). He gets along fine with other dogs and should be good with cats as well. While he has so far not been particularly playful with other animals, he seems content to co-exist with them. Buster has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you hold the key to Buster's future and are ready to set him free, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Buster is ready to bust out of rescue now!

Mystery (Adopted, June 2009)

Mystery is a handsome black and tan Cocker Spaniel 4-5 years old. Mystery nearly came to us 1 year ago when he passed through the Brooklyn shelter as a stray, but instead made his way to the ASPCA. From there he was adopted out to a member of the public. For reasons unknown to us, the placement did not stick and Mystery was abandoned once again. A good samaritan recently found him tied to a pole in Brooklyn, thin and in poor physical condition. We heard about Mystery's plight through another rescue and agreed to take him in this time. With our love and care, Mystery has now recovered and is ready for adoption. But his next home must be his last, as poor Mystery must by now suspect that he was born under an unlucky star. Any further disappointment and his little heart will surely break. Mystery has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to take the mystery out of life's vagaries for this poor sweet soul, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Please help us persuade Mystery that life and luck can indeed change - this time for the better.

Charlie Brown Eyes (Adopted, June 2009)

Charlie is a handsome 10-12 month old Cavalier King Charles/Cocker Spaniel cross. Charlie was sent to us by some good samaritans in Puerto Rico, who found him wandering the streets in filthy, emaciated condition. Despite his ordeal, Charlie is an incredibly sweet and loving dog. Like any puppy, he is still quite mouthy, so will need lots of toys and chewy bones to keep him busy. He will also need some help with housebreaking, crate-training being the method we recommend. Charlie ADORES CHILDREN, so will make an excellent family dog. Charlie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has also had a double cherry eye (a benign protrusion of the eyelid) corrected. Charlie has recently been treated to a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Charlie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Charlie is waiting to hear from you!

Snoop Dog (Adopted, June 2009)

Snoop Dog is a handsome 18 month old year pale buff Cocker Spaniel. This adorable boy was an owner surrender who came into the Manhattan Shelter. Snoop is a typical puppy, playful and curious, with an energetic nature. Life to him is just one big adventure, with lots of things to discover! Snoop Dog is a very friendly boy who gets along well both with people and with other pets his size or smaller. He should make an excellent family dog with older children. Just don't expect too much privacy ... like any private eye, this little guy just loves to Snoop around. He promises to keep your secrets, though (mum's the word). Snoop Dog has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you are ready to Scoop this little Snoop up and take him home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Snoop Dog is waiting to hear from you!

Charlie Blue Eyes (Adopted, June 2009)

Charlie is a handsome 11 month old blue-eyed Cocker Spaniel. He is largely white with the most adorable black markings. Charlie came to us from a family who loved him dearly but were relocating overseas and could not keep him. His temperament is nothing short of superb. Charlie is a very playful boy who loves people (kids included) and gets along great with other pets, both cats and dogs. He is a big hit at softball games (no one cheers louder for his human siblings than Charlie)! A typical waterfowl dog, Charlie also loves the beach and to swim. He will make an excellent family pet. Charlie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He is also fully housebroken. If you would like to adopt Charlie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Charlie is waiting to hear from you!

Misha (Adopted, June 2009)

Misha is a very pretty, petite black female Cocker Spaniel who is roughly 3 years old. Misha recently surrendered to the Manhattan Shelter, where she became very scared and overwhelmed. On the day we met her, she literally clung to our arms with her toes in an effort to keep from being put back in her cage. We promised to return for her. Now that she is safe in rescue, Misha has settled down and come out of her shell. She is a very sweet and loving dog who can best be described as loyal and true. Misha is fully housebroken and otherwise has wonderful manners. While she is currently suffering from a cold, she is recovering quickly, following which she will be spayed. Misha is microchipped, fully vaccinated and heartworm negative. To adopt her, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Misha will be checking her inbox daily.

Max & Sam (Adopted, June 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO RAY, MELANY AND SANTI FOR OFFERING SAM AND MAX A SAFE & LOVING FOSTER HOME IN COLLEGE POINT, NY.

Max and Sam are 2 year old siblings (obviously not related, but surrendered from the same home). Max is a buff Cocker Spaniel and Sam a buff and white Lhasa Apso. These handsome boys came to us from the Staten Island shelter, where they had been surrendered by their owner due to "allergies". Max and Sam have great temperaments and would do just fine in a home with kids. As they have vowed to remain Best Friends Furever ("BFF"), Max and Sam would like very much to stay together. We are therefore endeavoring to adopt them out to the same home and will reduce their combined adoption fees in the interests of keeping this duo paired. Max and Sam have been neutered, microchipped, are up-to-date on all shots and have tested negative for heartworm. Both will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. These Best Friends Furever are waiting for a Best Family Forever ... if that forever family could be yours, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Max and Sam will be checking their inbox daily.

Elvis (Adopted, June 2009)

Elvis is a 9 week old beagle puppy rescued from a backyard breeder in Queens. He is a very sweet boy and ready for his forever home. Elvis has been dewormed and has received his first set of puppy shots. He is still too young to be neutered, so will be going home on a spay/neuter contract (he must be brought back to us for neutering by a date specified). If you would like to adopt Elvis, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. This little hound dog will make a wonderful family pet.

Footsie ( Adopted, June 2009)

Footsie is a beautiful sable Cocker Spaniel who came to us from Brooklyn Animal Control. The color variations running through her coat remind us of autumn leaves. This beautiful dog was staying with her owner's cousin, who surrendered her because the owner failed to pick her up. The shelter then contacted Footsie's owner, who promised to reclaim her, but never showed. Footsie is roughly three years old and is quite a petite Cocker Spaniel, weighing only about 25 pounds. She is loyal and loving, but would likely do best in an adult only home, preferably without other pets. She tends to assume the "alpha" role in relation to other animals, so if there were another dog in the home, it would need to be a very docile pet. Footsie tends to kick up her heels where cats are concerned, so a cat-free home would work out best for her. Footsie has been spayed, is up-to-date on her shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will need a little help with housebreaking, crate-training being the method we recommend. If you would like to give this little beauty a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Footsie is waiting to hear from you.

Miss Cody (Adopted, June 2009)

Miss Cody is a 10 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who recently came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. She was badly matted and suffering from a bad infection in both ears. Nevertheless, after a little medical care and a haircut, she made her world debut on the Today Show, where she was featured as Al Roker's co-host. She's now everybody's favorite weather girl. Miss Cody has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She's even been treated to a much needed dental. Miss Cody is a prime example of just how far a little TLC can go. If you believe that love is at the end of the rainbow (and that rainbows follow stormy skies), then Miss Cody is just the girl for you. If you are looking for a dog with whom to share days both sunny and stormy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Miss Cody is waiting to hear from you.

Hershey Bar (Adopted, May 2009)

Hershey Bar is a handsome 4 year old chocolate Cocker Spaniel with beautiful amber eyes. Hershey Bar was surrendered by his owner because he found the activity level of young children in his home overwhelming. He should do fine in an adult only home where the activity level is low. Hershey Bar has a tendency to want to be top dog, so it would be best if any other dogs in the home were on the submissive side. Hershey Bar has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Hershey Bar a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Hershey Bar will be checking his inbox daily. In the meantime, Hershey Bar sends you a Chocolate Kiss! XXOO

Luci (Adopted, May 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO JOHN AND NANCY FOR OFFERING LUCI A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN UPSTATE NEW YORK!

BIO:

Luci is a very pale buff (almost white) female Cocker Spaniel about 7 years old. Luci is a very endearing dog who is gentle as can be. Luci came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter, where she was turned in as a stray. Her ears were horrifically infected, so much so that, despite our best endeavors, her ears could not be saved. Luci has recently undergone dual ear ablation surgery (otherwise known as "TECA"), which she came through like a champ. Although she is now somewhat hearing impaired, she does hear some sounds but, most importantly, is no longer in any pain. Luci is a very beautiful dog who is extremely sweet natured and gets along with everyone. She will make a wonderful family pet. Luci has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Luci, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Luci will be checking her email inbox daily!

Cheerio (Adopted, May 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO DEB OF CAPE COD, MA, FOR OFFERING CHEERIO A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH CHEERIO IS SHARING WITH DEB'S RESCUED CATS. CHEERIO IS ENJOYING COUNTRY WALKS AND OTHERWISE BEGINNING TO ADJUST. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, DEB!

BIO:

Cheerio has not been very cheery as of late. This 8-10 year old buff Cocker Spaniel recently lost both his home and his beloved elderly owner, who not only shows signs of dementia, but also fell and broke a hip. Cheerio was brought into his vet's office for euthanasia by his owner's daughter, who thought he was likely unadoptable due to age and a slightly testy nature. The vet clinic staff pulled out all the stops in order to find Cheerio a place in rescue. Prior to leaving his vet's office, Cheerio received all of his vaccinations, full bloodwork, as well as dentistry, this time as a pro bono client. And then a kind New Englander stepped up and offered him a foster home at her place on Cape Cod, where Cheerio has been enjoying long country walks and generally soaking up the good life, including a holistic diet. It is wonderful to see how much goodwill Cheerio has on his side. While Cheerio is still grieving the loss of his owner, he is slowly becoming somewhat more receptive to being loved by someone new. Cheerio is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and heartworm negative. If you would like to adopt Cheerio, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Cheerio will be checking his email inbox daily!

Alfa Romeo (Adopted, May 2009)

The Alfa Romeo, especially in black and white, is just the classic roadster. Our Alfa Romeo, also in black and white, could not agree more. He is ready to zoom into your life and bring lots of love with him. Until recently, 5 year old Alfa Romeo was the beloved pet of a Manhattan woman who lost her apartment in the economic downturn. Heartbroken, she surrendered him to the Manhattan Shelter, but contacted us in advance and asked that we keep an eye out for him. Not that there is any chance we would have overlooked such a handsome boy! Alfa Romeo is a very sweet and loving dog who should make an excellent family pet. He is good with everyone, kids and other dogs included. Alfa Romeo has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt our timeless classic, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Alfa Romeo will be checking his inbox daily! Alfa Romeo is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
Lukie (Adopted, May 2009)

Lukie is a handsome pale buff (almost white) male Cocker Spaniel 4-5 years old who came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. Lukie is gentle as can be and very playful. He has an EXCELLENT TEMPERAMENT and should make a FABULOUS FAMILY PET. Lukie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. We have treated him to a dental, a professional grooming, and a new leash and collar. Lukie deserves to "have it all" - a secure home and a loving family to whom he in turn will be very devoted. While it may not sound like such a tall order, for reasons beyond his control, the best of life has evaded Lukie, at least until now. If you would like to adopt Lukie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Lukie is waiting to meet his new best friend!

Pebbles(Adopted, May 2009)

Pebbles is a very pretty 6 year old red cocker spaniel with adorable white markings. She is seeking a new home as her owner, now retired, plans to do a lot of traveling and would like Pebbles to have more company than she is able to provide. Pebbles has a WONDERFUL TEMPERAMENT and will make an excellent family pet. She is great with kids as well as other animals ... in short, she's an all around well-adjusted girl. Pebbles has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Pebbles, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Pebbles is waiting to hear from you!

Sammy Sunshine (Adopted, May 2009)

Hello, my name is Sammy Sunshine. I am a handsome red Cocker Spaniel just 3 years old. I recently came into rescue from the Staten Island shelter. At this cold and dark time of year, I'm sure that you could use a few rays of sunshine to brighten up your day. So wouldn't you like to take me home? I am cute as can be and have a very friendly disposition. I'll chase away the winter blues better than a trip to Arizona or the Florida Keys. My little tail is always on the move, just like a propeller, so I'm sure to keep you smiling. I'm neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. If you'd like to snuggle up together, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application ... I'll be waiting to hear from you! Love, Sammy XXOO

Roxie (Adopted, May 2009)

Roxie is a 7 year old buff and white Cocker Spaniel. She is one of our "oh so special" special needs dogs who has been rendered blind by glaucoma. Roxie came to us from the Brooklyn shelter, where she had been surrendered by her family due to the arrival of a "new baby." Our immediate thought was how this family could have subjected their four-legged baby to such terrible neglect prior to the arrival of their human child. Roxie was suffering from unimaginable pressure in her eyes (the pain of which is often described as man's worst migraine magnified by a hundred times). But for our immediate intervention, she would have needed to have at least one eye removed. Thankfully, Roxie's eye was saved. She is no longer in pain and is coping well with her blindness, largely by relying heavily on her other 5 senses. She is sweet as can be and enjoying life in foster care with one of the wonderful vet techs from NYC Veterinary Specialists in Manhattan, where she received her medical treatment. In addition to her glaucoma treatment, Roxie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Roxie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Experience with blind dogs would obviously be a plus but is not essential.

Juicy Couture (Adopted, April 2009)

Now who could resist this face? Meet Juicy Couture, a 2 year old female Cocker Spaniel coming to us from the Manhattan Shelter, where she was turned in as a stray. Juicy is a beautiful reddish buff girl who was rather nervous in her shelter surroundings but is now beginning to feel safe and to relax. We are looking for an adult only home for Juicy or a home with older kids having dog experience. So far, she seems fine with other pets. Juicy has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Juicy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Juicy is looking to celebrate spring in the company of a new family!

Tobi (Adopted, April 2008)

Tobi is a handsome golden buff male Cocker Spaniel roughly 2 years old. Tobi was found as a stray in rural upstate New York and surrendered to Rescue when his owners could not be found. Tobi loves the company of other dogs and has been very friendly with all our rescue staff. While we believe he will make a fine family pet, we are inclined to think that he would do best in a home with older, dog-experienced kids. Tobi has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are looking for a new friend with whom to tiptoe through the tulips this spring, Tobi could be the dog for you! After all, we all need to stop and smell the roses (and take stock) from time to time. To adopt Tobi, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Tobi will be checking his inbox daily.

Bennett (Adopted, April 2009)

Bennett is a handsome buff and white Cocker about 3 years old. With his striking rust and white coloring and swishing, undocked tail, he reminds us of a pint-sized Brittany Spaniel. Bennett is the quintessential FAMILY DOG. It is hard to believe that such a friendly boy would find himself a stray in the streets of New York City. He is very outgoing and loves the company of people. Bennett is great with other dogs, so could easily join a multi-pet household. Ever the perfect gent, Bennett has wonderful manners. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you have been looking for the perfect new addition, Bennett will surely make your day. To adopt Bennett, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bennett will be checking his inbox daily!

Google (Adopted, April 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO JEANNE AND FAMILY OF MAPLEWOOD, NJ, FOR OFFERING GOOGLE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME! JEANNE HAS THE FOLLOWING TO REPORT ABOUT GOOGLE:

"Come home to a happy dog who greets you with the glee and energy of a young puppy. Google is completely potty trained. He loves to be with people. He gets along with other dogs and also cats. He is fine going up and down stairs. He was tested with a young child this weekend, and his behavior was stellar. He behaves very nicely in public. He has not attempted to get on the furniture. He is a real cuddler. He cuddles up real tight, and will cuddle for as long as you allow. He follows his foster mom everywhere she goes. He is a constant companion. He has very nice leash manners. He LOVES to go on rides in the car. He shows slight signs of food aggression towards other dogs (his male foster beagle, but not towards his foster beagle sister), but only at breakfast and dinner time. This is easily diffused buy using a baby gate to separate him until he is finished eating. He would be a wonderful dog for someone who is home most of the day. He would be a great companion for an older person, as he does not misbehave, does not get underfoot, and is easy to walk on leash."

Google is a handsome, golden buff, smaller sized Cocker Spaniel estimated to be about 10 - 12 years old. This gentle senior with a winning temperament and a heart of gold was dumped onto the streets of New York City by some heartless person, finally ending up a stray in the Brooklyn shelter. We know that the economy is in the dumps, but that is no excuse for dumping man's best friend. After all, in this time of stress and uncertainty, we all need to stick together. Throughout his ordeal, Google has remained calm and centered. Rather than going into an emotional tailspin, he's simply continued to wag his stubby tail. Perhaps we should all try and cultivate the inner strength and wisdom exhibited by Google ... after all, he's the most powerful search engine around and surely knows what's what. Google has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Google a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Once you "google" him, you'll be sure to fall in love.

Ladyfingers (Adopted, March 2009)

Ladyfingers ("Lady") is a lovely 6 year old black and white female Cocker Spaniel who is just as sweet as they come. So much so that we've named her after the sweet sponge cakes by the same name (a "royal" cookie invented in the 15th century to honor the King of France). Soaked in coffee liqueur, they're one of the principal ingredients in the modern-day tiramisu ... yum! Needless to say, our Lady is just as regal and just as delicious. Having originally been adopted out by the Manhattan Shelter, we were contacted by her new family when they found the other dog in the home would not accept her. While they are unable to keep Lady, the family will hold her until she is placed. Lady has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Lady, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. She is sure to provide you with the sugary sweet boost we all seem to need these days!

Blue & Bayou (Adopted, March 2009)

UPDATE: BLUE HAS BEEN ADOPTED INTO A LOVING FAMILY WHO RESIDE ON 47 ACRES, COMPLETE WITH A POND, IN THE POCONO MOUNTAINS OF PENNSYLVANIA! BLUE WILL BE SHARING LIFE WITH HIS NEW LITTLE BROTHER, COCO, ALSO ADOPTED FROM ABANDONED ANGELS.

SADLY, WE RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT BAYOU (BLUE'S LITTERMATE) IS HEARTWORM POSITIVE (THIS DESPITE HER BREEDER'S ASSURANCES THAT SHE HAD DILIGENTLY ADMINISTERED A HW PREVENTATIVE). BAYOU CANNOT LEAVE RESCUE UNTIL SHE IS HEARTWORM FREE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS BAYOU'S HEARTWORM TREATMENT TO HELP HER ON HER WAY, PLEASE SEND A DONATION TO THE FOLLOWING PAYPAL RECIPIENT ADDRESS: DONATION@NYABANDONEDANGELS.COM (PLEASE LABEL YOUR DONATION "FOR BAYOU").

WHAT BETTER WAY TO SAY "I LOVE YOU" ON VALENTINE'S DAY THAN BY MAKING A DONATION TOWARDS BAYOU'S CARE! SHOW THE ONE YOU LOVE (WHETHER HUMAN OR CANINE) WHAT A TENDER HEART YOU HAVE BY MAKING A DONATION "FOR BAYOU" IN HIS OR HER NAME. NOTHING WILL TOUCH YOUR LOVED ONE MORE THAN KNOWING THAT YOU GAVE THE GIFT OF A HEALTHY HEART TO A NEEDY DOG ON VALENTINE'S DAY!

BIO:
Ready to put a little Blue Bayou into the gray of winter? Then you need to meet Blue and his sister, Bayou. This pair of blue roan Cocker Spaniels with AKC papers were surrendered by their breeder when they became too old to sell (they are roughly 16 months old). Sadly, she viewed them as commodities and was only too happy to give them the boot when she was unable to derive any profit from them. Blue and Bayou arrived rather skinny and scared, but are beginning to come out of their shells and have also put on some weight. Blue is the more outgoing of the two, while Bayou is a bit more shy and skittish. However, they both enjoy being held and cuddled, which is easy to do, as they are smaller sized cockers weighing only about 20 pounds. These two have a lot of energy and love to run. They definitely need a home with some property or, in the alternative, an owner who will be committed to taking them for daily exercise at the dog run. While we would love to place Blue and Bayou together, we will separate them if necessary. Blue and Bayou have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and are up-to-date with all shots. They will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. We see blue skies ahead for 2009 ... what better way to show your optimism for the future than by bringing a little Blue Bayou into your heart and home for the New Year!

Charley (Adopted, March 2009)

UPDATE: Charley is a super sweet boy that will just melt your heart with his gentle and loving nature. We can NOT believe this wonderful guy was ever a stray. We are all head over heels for Charley. Come meet Charley and fall in love.

Charley is a very handsome 4-5 year old pale buff Cocker Spaniel with a majestic air and a wonderful temperament. As nothinig much seems to rattle him, he would likely make an excellent pet for a family with older children. He is calmness personified! Charley came to us from the Manhattan shelter, where he had come in as a stray. Even his raggedy appearance could not conceal his regal air. He reminded us of a prince in pauper's clothing. Anyone who has read the Steinbeck classic "Travels With Charley" will appreciate what an amazing companion a dog can be, whether at home or on the road. Whether you are planning a trip or staying put this spring, Charley is sure to make great company! Charley has been neutered, microchipped, has had a cherry eye corrected, and also been treated to a dental. He is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to begin your travels through life with Charley, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Charley will be checking his inbox daily!

Winter (Adopted, March 2009)

Here's a recipe to chase those Winter blues away: mix two quarts apple cider with 1 cup Jack Daniels (bring to a rolling boil). Pour into your favorite mug, add an orange slice, a cinnamon stick and you're all set. It's the Winter Warmer ... the drink of the social season!

If you're one of the few people not in need of alcohol right now, there's always the canine version of the Winter Warmer to keep you cozy. Our Winter Warmer came to us on a particularly brisk February evening as an owner surrender. Sadly, his family could not afford his care and seemed to have no idea of the ingredients that are essential to a happy dog. Our Winter Warmer needs an experienced owner by his side, someone to provide not just TLC, but also structure and guidance. Winter Warmer should make an excellent family dog in a home with older kids, but definitely needs some property where he can run, as he has tremendous energy. He'd make a great jogging partner for someone on a fitness binge, as he could probably make it through a Marathon. Winter Warmer is 2 years old, neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and heartworm negative. If you are ready to bring some warmth into your home before the big spring thaw, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Winter Warmer may be just the dog for you!

Luffie (Adopted, March 2009)

Luffie is a handsome 14 year old buff and white Cocker Spaniel who was recently found by a cat rescuer on the streets of Queens. She immediately contacted the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals to ask for help. Luffie was huddled beneath on a car on a exceptionally cold night, showing all the signs of a "family pet" who was tossed out onto the street due to age and a few health problems. We can only imagine what thoughts must have passed through Luffie's mind as he lay curled up against a tire, seeking a little warmth: "I am cold, hungry and afraid. How did I end up here? Is this how my life will end?" The Mayor's Alliance instructed the cat rescuer to bring Luffie to NYC Veterinary Specialists for evaluation and contacted us from there. While Luffie is a little arthritic (he is on cosequin) and was in dire need of a dental (now taken care of), he is actually in reasonably good shape for a dog his age. We have treated him for an ear infection and he is also on a special kidney dog food. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. Luffie is now all ready to go and is hoping for a foster home (or adoptive home) where he can live out the rest of his days in peace, security and comfort. Luffie is FULLY HOUSEBROKEN and gets along well with other dogs, so could easily join a multiple pet household. If you are able to help Luffie start out the New Year on the right foot, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Luffie is waiting for a second chance at love!

Juliet ~ (Adopted, March 2008)

Juliet is a buff and white Cocker Spaniel who was found on Shakespeare Avenue in the Bronx. We do not know if she was lost, abandoned, or searching for her Romeo. This classic beauty is around 4 years old, perhaps even a little younger. She is on the shy side, but quite gentle and eager for affection once she senses that a kind touch is on the other side of the hands that reach for her. Once she trusts, Juliet enjoys giving kisses and can be quite the lap dog. Juliet came to us with a mild infection in both ears (now being treated) and double-cherry eye (which has been surgically corrected). She has been very sweet with our volunteers and readily allows both her ears and eyes to be medicated. Juliet appears to be largely housebroken, so crate-training should not be required. While she does not fuss when crated, Juliet can be a little fearful when it comes to emerging from the safe haven of her crate, so it might be best to avoid crating altogether. Juliet has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. Juliet is fine with other animals and we believe would make a good family pet in a home with older, dog-experienced kids who will be sure to treat her gently. Juliet has had enough Shakespearean tragedy to last her a lifetime and is now ready for a little romantic comedy. If you would like to put a smile on this lovely sweetheart's face, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Juliet is waiting to hear from her new love. In the meantime, she's wondering: "Wherefor art Thou?"

Hannah (Adopted, March 2009)

Hannah is a 10-12 year old Cocker/Springer Spaniel cross who was dumped at Brooklyn ACC and left to die by heartless owners, who said they simply did not want her anymore. We arrived at ACC to pick up a sweet little puppy and could not bear to leave poor Hannah behind. She was shaking from head to toe and seemed to know that she did not stand a chance. Sometimes rescue needs to swoop in on angels' wings to help poor elderly dogs like Hannah, who otherwise would not have a prayer. Hannah was treated at our vet's office for a severe upper respiratory infection, which she contracted in the shelter, and also received a dental. Hannah has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She is ready for foster placement or - better still - an adoptive home to call her own! If you can find it in your heart to offer our Hannah a safe and loving place to live out her golden years, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Hannah is waiting to hear from you!

Barkley (Adopted, March 2009)

Wall Street is not the only one in need of a rescue package ... Barkley has recently found himself in dire straits, too! This handsome 7 year old black and tan Cocker Spaniel with beguiling eyes and a winning way with people somehow found himself a stray turned into the Manhattan Shelter. From the look of him, this sweet boy was obviously very neglected, but given what a sweetie he is, we believe he was once quite a loved pet. Barkley has a very gentle, reassuring presence, one that would calm even the most jittery of investors. He is a very loyal dog who is happiest when sitting at the feet of his caregiver.

Sadly, Barkley has been suffering from a raging staphylococcal infection in both ears for the last several months, which we have been unable to defeat despite aggressive antibiotic treatment. The only way to give this poor boy some relief now is to perform ablation surgery on both ears. Barkley is currently on IV painkillers at NYC Veterinary Specialists, where we are keeping him comfortable until surgery can be performed. Barkley will be the lucky beneficiary of proceeds from our "Tick-Tock" Raffle of designer wristwatches valued at between $800.00-$2200.00, all of which were given to our Rescue by a generous donor and are brand new. You can participate in the "Tick-Tock" Raffle through our website, which is www.nyabandonedangels.com

Once he recovers from surgery, Barkley will be ready to go home. He is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Barkley a foster home or, better still, a loving forever home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. As a prime example of one who has lost it all and lived to see another day, Barkley is the perfect pal to see you through the Bear Market.

Blackjack (Adopted, March 2009)

UPDATE: BLACKJACK IS BEING RETURNED TO RESCUE AFTER TWO AND A HALF YEARS WITH HIS FAMILY DUE TO A CHANGE IN THEIR ECONOMIC CIRCUMSTANCES. HIS FAMILY REPORTS THAT HE IS A VERY FRIENDLY AND WELL-ADJUSTED 3 YEAR OLD NOW. THEY ARE SAD TO PART WITH HIM, BUT PERHAPS HIS FATE IS TO MAKE HIS HOME WITH YOU! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADOPT BLACKJACK, PLEASE EMAIL RESCUE@NYABANDONEDANGELS.COM AND REQUEST AN APPLICATION. BLACKJACK'S ORIGINAL BIO (FROM 2007) IS BELOW:

BIO: Meet Blackjack, the latest little gambler to come through our rescue. Blackjack is a handsome male Cocker Spaniel who is just one year old. Blackjack was found as a stray and turned into a local shelter, where he was quite frightened and, consequently, not that responsive to people. The shelter's attempt to adopt him out at an adoption event was unsuccessful, perhaps because he had a cherry eye (a small benign growth in the corner of his eye). Now that we have had the cherry eye removed, Blackjack is looking quite debonaire. As he begins to trust a little more each day, Blackjack is coming out of his shell and proving to be quite a friendly boy. All that he needs now is a loving home to call his own. Blackjack is neutered, up-to-date on his shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you believe in games of chance, Blackjack is surely the dog for you. If you would like to take a gamble on Blackjack, please contact us to discuss him further.

Just too "Precious" (Adopted, March 2009)

Just Too Precious ("Precious") is a very petite 2 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel with a halo of curly ringlets cascading down her ears. Precious came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter, having come in as an owner surrender. She was badly matted, so evidently had not received the best of care. Nevertheless, her prior life does not appear to have affected her demeanor one bit. All she wants to do is wiggle! Given her delightful temperament, Precious should make a fine family pet. She has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Precious, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. You'll take one look at her and decide she's Just Too Precious for words - and meant for you!

Manolo (Adopted, March 2009)

BIO:

Hi there, my name is Manolo. I'm named after my rescuer's favorite brand of designer shoes, which are buttery soft, just like my coat, and which are super chic, just like me. I am a 2-3 year old jet black male Cocker Spaniel who was surrendered by a family due to lack of time. I came from a household with kids where I was the only pet. I spent most of my time by myself in my family's backyard (which was rather lonely), except I was allowed in the house at night. Since coming into rescue, I am much happier. I am learning how to be part of a multiple-dog household (where I have to wait my turn and share) and how to walk on a leash (apparently I'm not supposed to pull). As I'm a very smart boy, I'm making progress quickly. I respond very well to verbal correction and know to go and lie on my bed for a time-out when I've made a little oops. I am FULLY HOUSEBROKEN and very quiet when left alone (no barking, which I'm told is key). I am very affectionate with those I know and love (I give lots of kisses) and am making progress with strangers. I am fine when I pass people and other dogs on the street and am starting to view my walks as a fun social experience. Whether you are wearing Manolo Blahnik stilettos or Reebok sneaks, I'll be very content to trot along beside you. I know that there is lots more for me to learn and I am looking forward to continuing my canine education (I promise not to chew your footwear or anything else in the house, that much I've got down pat). I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I have just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. I am looking for a family who are looking for a dog to devote his heart and soul to them. I would jump at the chance to join a household where people will have time to give to me and where I will be loved and cherished as a family member. If you believe that family could be yours, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my inbox daily. Lots of love till then, Manolo XXOO

Carson (Adopted, March 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO CIARA AND STEPHEN OF MANHATTAN FOR OFFERING CARSON A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN THE BIG APPLE!

BIO:

Carson is a beautiful 2 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who was found as a stray. When her owner could not be found, her good samaritan brought her to Manhattan Animal Care and Control. Carson is a very friendly and affectionate girl who does well with her "people" (including kids) as well as with other dogs. Her good samaritan found that she was not all that receptive to strangers, so a highly trafficked home with lots of visitors coming and going might not be the best match. She also does not like other dogs "in her face" - however, we believe she would settle in fine with a laid-back (perhaps older) canine friend. Carson is in good health, has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Carson a home as the leaves begin to change this fall, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Carson is ready for some long autumn walks ... how about you?

P.R. Guy (Adopted, February 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO JACKIE OF CONEY ISLAND FOR OFFERING P.R. GUY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME WHILE HE AWAITS HIS FOREVER FAMILY!

BIO:

Meet "P.R. Guy" - our new head of Public Relations, who was recently recruited from the streets of Puerto Rico. A generous good samaritan took him in, vetted him, and then put him on a plane to Abandoned Angels in New York City so that we could find him a safe and loving home. Needless to say, P.R. Guy really gets around! P.R. Guy is roughly 5 years old and has an EXCELLENT TEMPERAMENT. He should make a wonderful family pet. P.R. Guy has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. We could all use some good P.R. these days, so why not bring our little spinmaster home? As he trots proudly alongside you, everyone will surely have great things to say, both about you and him. If you would like to adopt P.R. Guy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. In anticipation of a swift adoption, P.R. Guy is already busy drafting his press release!

Whiskey (Adopted, February 2009)

Whiskey is a handsome 2 year old rust colored Cocker Spaniel who is better than a stiff drink at the end of a hard day. He'll greet you with much affection and make you forget each and every woe. Whiskey recently came to us as an owner surrender due to lack of time. He found himself spending more days in the care of his dogwalker than in the company of his mom. As a result, she made the heartbreaking decision to part with him. Whiskey is a very outgoing boy who seems fine with kids and should make a fine family pet. He is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Whiskey, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Whether you prefer the Whiskey Sour, the Whiskey Highball, or just Whiskey Straight-Up, our Whiskey is sure to rank above them all. He's the original and best, which (of course) is always hard to beat. BIO TO BE POSTED

Johnnie Walker (Adopted, February 2009)

Johnnie Walker is a handsome 10-12 month old sable Cocker Spaniel whose coloring reminds us of whiskey. Johnnie Walker was surrendered by his family due to financial issues. He was originally so stressed that he could have used a stiff drink, but has become very mellow since coming into Rescue and is now showing his true sweet colors. Sable cockers are quite difficult to come by, especially through Rescue organizations, and Johnnie Walker is one of the more beautiful sables to have passed through our doors. He has no behavioral issues whatsoever, so should make an excellent family pet. Johnnie Walker will be neutered, microchipped, tested for heartworm, and will be up-to-date on all shots prior to adoption. We will also be correcting a tiny cherry eye (which is a slight protrusion of the third eyelid, a condition quite common in the breed). If you would like to offer Johnnie Walker a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Johnnie Walker looks forward to raising his glass with you in a toast to his happy future!

Lucie (Adopted, February 2009)

Lucie is an 18 month old black and white cocker spaniel who came in as an owner surrender, her family's home having been lost in the foreclosure crisis. She is a very sweet and submissive girl who is extremely gentle. Lucie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Lucie needs a family to provide her with stability and reassurance, as well as with a loving home. Lucie is currently fostering in Maplewood, NJ (adoption by her foster family is currently pending).

Copper (Adopted, February 2009)

Not sure where to invest your money these days? How about metals! There's platinum, gold, and silver, of course ... but we hear the Copper market is looking promising, too. Copper is a handsome 3 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel who recently came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter, where he was turned in as a stray. He is a handsome reddish blonde boy with a streak of white on his chest. Having had experience with at least one fly-by-night owner, Copper is now looking for a stable, long-term investor. Whether you have everything but love - or nothing at all - Copper is the one investment who will make all the difference to your life. Loyalty and love being life's most precious commodities, our Copper will only become more valuable with time. Copper has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Copper, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. And remember, if you need a little extra luck these days, just look for the Copper penny. He'll be lying head's up and ready to send good things your way.

Tania (Adopted, February 2009)

Tania is a 14 month old Cavalier King Charles/Cocker Spaniel cross (a "designer dog" combo that has come to be known as the "Cockalier"). Tania came to us via our groomer, when one of his clients expressed an interest in re-homing her. Our Rescue took one look at this little treasure and snatched her right up! Tania's coat is a deep red color and her temperament is sugar sweet (traits that are incredibly appropriate for Valentine's Day). When in motion, her little docked tail moves with the speed of a hummingbird's wings! Although she has passed the one year mark, Tania is still full of puppy love. She is a very playful girl who loves to kiss and cuddle - in fact, she'd make the perfect Valentine's Day addition for a family with kids. Tania has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. What's more, she appears to be largely housebroken, yet another plus in her favor! If you would like to blow kisses in Tania's direction, with a view to making her your one true love, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Anyone looking for love this Valentine's Day is certain to find it in our Tania ... she's the perfect sweetheart for every season.

Murphy (Adopted, Janury 2009)

Doesn't this handsome boy look as though he's got something say? If only Murphy could speak, we feel sure that he would articulate his sadness at his recent separation from his owner and express anxiety about the uncertainty of his future. We'd like to reach right through the computer screen, pat his head, and reassure poor Murphy that everything will be okay. Murphy is a 5 year old Cocker Spaniel who is coming to us as an owner surrender due to his mom's recent relocation to a nursing home (Murphy feels that a "pet friendly" nursing home would make a great business model ... now why hasn't someone thought of it yet?) Murphy would of course like to start the New Year off with a new family, one who will be happy to adopt both him and his favorite red ball. While Murphy's ball is his current best friend, he longs for a best friend in human form, someone who will love and cherish him forever. Until he finds that special someone, Murphy is being fostered by a family friend. Murphy is a well-adjusted dog who will do best in an experienced cocker spaniel home. He should do fine with older kids and tends to do well with other dogs, as long as they are not larger than he is. Murphy has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you are ready to play ball with Murphy, then please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Murphy is waiting to hear from you!

Buddy (Adopted, Janury 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO DOUG AND BILL OF UPSTATE NY FOR OFFERING BUDDY AND HIS NEW FOSTER BROTHER NINJA A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME ON THEIR SNOWY HILLTOP IN THE COUNTRY!

Buddy is a 7 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel who came to us as an owner surrender when his parents split up and his dad fell ill. Despite putting on a brave face, Buddy is truly grieving the loss of his family. Sadly, Buddy does not yet understand that he will never be returning to his former home. What he needs to heal his broken heart is someone else to love. Buddy was strongly bonded to his dad so will likely become quite attached to a male in the household. Buddy is a handsome dog who is almost pure white in color. As he is a bit of a chunky boy, he ressembles a baby polar bear. What could be cuter? Buddy previously lived with three other Cocker Spaniels (both males and females), so would do well in a multi-dog household. Buddy has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to open your heart and home to Buddy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Buddy really needs a friend.

Rococco "Coco" (Adopted, January 2009)

Rococco ("Coco") is our 3rd owner surrender of the New Year. This handsome boy is just 5 months old. While Coco is full of the usual puppy antics, he has a wonderful disposition. Sadly, although they took excellent care of him, looking after a puppy proved a bit too much for his surrendering family to handle. Hence, Coco finds himself in Rescue. Coco is a striking tri-color merle Cocker Spaniel (grey and white with tan points) who came from a breeder in Ohio. He should make an excellent family pet. Coco is microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, heartworm negative, and will be neutered as well as groomed prior to adoption. If you would like to offer Coco a forever home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Coco is waiting to hear from his new family!

Hot Chocolate (Adopted, January 2009)

Hot Chocolate is a 3-4 year old purebred female Cocker Spaniel who was recently surrendered to the Manhattan Shelter because her family was moving. Hot Chocolate is an extremely loveable and friendly girl who gets along well with everyone, including dogs and kids ... she should make an excellent family pet. We are told that she knows a few tricks to boot! Hot Chocolate is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. On these coldest of winter days, there can be nothing cozier than curling up with Hot Chocolate to watch the snow come down. While our Hot Chocolate does not come with whipped cream or marshmallows, those extras are hardly needed. Were she any sweeter, one's heart would simply melt. If your craving for Hot Chocolate will not be satisfied by anything but the real thing, then please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Hot Chocolate is ready to bring her special brand of sweetness home to you.

Addie (Adopted, January 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO CATHERINE OF FOREST HILLS, QUEENS, FOR OFFERING ADDIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

BIO:

BIO: Addison is a very pretty 9-10 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who came to us from the Manhattan shelter, where she was turned in as a stray. We wonder how anyone could have put a dog with such a gentle nature out onto the street. Addie is a very sweet dog with a beautiful face and deep, soulful eyes that have obviously seen their share of sadness. Addie came into rescue with both an upper respiratory infection and a bladder infection, both of which caused her enormous physical distress and led to hospitalization. While she initially rallied under our vet's care, she recently took a turn for the worse and was diagnosed with pneumonia. Addie is currently being treated with IV antibiotics and fluids but has a way to go before she recovers. Once she is well, Addie will be professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. Addie has been spayed, microchipped, treated to a dental, received all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Addie a place to bask in the sun as she continues her recuperation (whether a foster home or an adoptive home), please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Addie will be checking her inbox daily.

Gingerbread (Adopted, January 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO TONY OF BAY RIDGE, BROOKLYN, FOR OFFERING GINGIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME. GINGIE HAS MADE ENORMOUS STRIDES IN FOSTER CARE. HE INITIALLY CAME TO US WITH SEVERE HANDLING ISSUES, BUT HAS NOW BLOSSOMED INTO A VERY GENTLE AND LOVING DOG WHO SIMPLY ADORES HIS "PEOPLE." GINGIE WILL ALWAYS BEAR THE SCARS OF HIS EARLIER LIFE AS AN ABUSED AND NEGLECTED ANIMAL, AND IN HIS OCCASIONAL GROWL WE SOMETIMES SEE A SLIGHT REMINDER OF THE DOG WHO INITIALLY CAME TO US ... BUT 99% OF THE TIME, GINGIE IS A DOLL. WE ARE VERY PROUD OF HOW FAR THIS SPECIAL BOY HAS COME.

Gingerbread is a handsome 5 year old buff Cocker Spaniel with a natural tail. He is a smaller size Cocker Spaniel weighing only about 25 pounds, quite petite for a male. Gingerbread came into Animal Care and Control in Manhattan as a stray, having been found in the Bronx, tied to a fence on a freezing cold day. Gingerbread was understandably confused and upset. Now that Gingerbread is feeling safe, he is proving to be a very loving dog and a loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be at his person's side (unless, of course, he is busy playing with his fuzzy toys or chasing after his favorite rubber ball). While he has made a lot of progress since coming into rescue, we believe that Gingerbread would do best in an adult only home having prior experience with traumatized animals. Prior Cocker Spaniel experience would also be a plus. Gingerbread is 100% housebroken, has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer this handsome boy a new beginning, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Gingerbread is ready to put some spice in your life!

Ella and Tracie (Adopted, January 2009)

Ella and Tracie are 5-6 month old blue merle Cocker Spaniel puppies with natural, undocked tails. Ella has blue eyes, quite unusual for a Cocker Spaniel! They are littermates who were rescued from a breeder who found herself unable to sell them in the current economic climate. Ella and Tracie are rather timid dogs who will need quite a bit of TLC. Neither dog has any aggression, but both are rather shy and will need time to feel confident and secure. Ella and Tracie have been spayed, microchipped, are up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Ella and/or Tracie a loving home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Ella and Tracie would love to start the New Year with a family of their own! While we would ideally like to place Ella and Tracie together, we will separate them if need be.

Ross (Adopted, January 2009)

Ross is a 3-4 year old buff and white purebred Cocker Spaniel who ended up a stray at Manhattan ACC. He does not know what happened to his "Friends" ... Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey. Perhaps they've decided to hang out at a new Manhattan dog run! Like the "Friends" character, Ross is tired of failed unions and is longing for the real thing. With his winning ways and fabulous temperament, he deserves it, too! Ross has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm, so he's all ready to go. If you would like to adopt Ross, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Ross is waiting to meet his new best friend!

Dodger (Adopted, January 2009)

Dodger is a handsome 9 month old tri-color Cocker Spaniel with beautiful markings. Dodger gets along with other dogs, but sadly was adopted into a family where another dog in the home would not accept him. As a result, his family felt there was no choice but to surrender him to rescue. Dodger is a happy-go-lucky, friendly boy who should make an excellent family pet. He will shortly be neutered, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to start the New Year with a new best friend, then Dodger is surely the dog for you. To request an application to adopt Dodger, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Dodger is waiting to hear from you!

Shaina (Adopted, January 2009)

Shaina is a very pretty 4 year old chocolate and white female Cocker Spaniel who is coming to us as an owner surrender. Shaina has been very well cared for by her current family. She has been vetted whenever necessary (her full medical history will be provided at the time of adoption) and has also received regular groomings. Unfortunately, with two very young children in the home, Shaina's mom and dad feel that they simply do not have adequate time to devote to their four-legged baby. Shaina is a very well adjusted girl who enjoys the company of people and is trustworthy with young kids. She is also FULLY HOUSEBROKEN. Although Shaina is accustomed to being the only pet in the home, she would likely adjust to living with other dogs and perhaps even with cats. Shaina is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Shaina does have a grade 1 heart murmur (which is the lowest on a scale of 1-6), but the condition is so mild that it does not affect her quality of life one bit. If you would like to adopt Shaina, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com to request an application.

Note: we recommend the following supplements (available in any health food store) in the dosages set forth below for Cocker Spaniels in whom a heart murmur has been detected:
Taurine: 500 - 1000 mg daily
L- Carnitine: 1000 - 2000 mg daily
Co-Q-10: 50-100 mg daily

These are only suggestions based upon our personal experience. For medical advice specific to your own pet's condition, please consult your veterinarian.

THIS IS HIS SHELTER PHOTO WHEN HE FIRST ARRIVED NEAR DEATH
THIS IS COLIN FARRELL NOW

Colin Farrell (Adopted, January 2009)

A BIG THANK YOU TO VICKY OF THE EAST VILLAGE FOR OFFERING COLIN A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Colin Farrell is a handsome young red Cocker Spaniel with movie-star good looks who has suffered some high drama recently. This 1-2 year old Cocker Spaniel with a natural, undocked tail was spotted wandering alone in a park, evidently having been dumped there by some heartless person. He was later found lying unconscious under a sweatshirt by a parks department worker, apparently near death. He is believed to have ingested a poison, quite possibly rodenticide (rat poison) that he picked up in the park. The parks department rushed Colin to Manhattan ACC, who immediately contacted the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. Thanks to their speedy intervention in this life or death situation, Colin was quickly whisked off to a specialty hospital for neurological and other treatment. Looking at him now, it is hard to believe that he had a brush with death only a few short weeks ago. While he is still on medication, we are hoping for a full recovery for Colin, with no lasting consequences to his health. Colin is an EXTREMELY FRIENDLY boy who loves to play with the other dogs he encounters in his local dog run and simply adores people (yes, you can expect lots of kisses). What's more, he is housebroken, too! Colin will shortly be neutered, is now microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. All that he needs now is a home for the holidays (and all seasons to come). If you would like to adopt Colin, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. If you are unable to adopt at this time but would like to make a donation towards Colin's veterinary care, you can do so via paypal using the ollowing recipient address: donation@nyabandonedangels.com (we are a 501c corporation, so all donations are tax-deductible).

Spirit(Adopted, December 2008)

Spirit is a handsome 2-3 year old tri-color Cocker Spaniel with beautiful black, white and tan markings. Tri-color Cockers are difficult to come by in rescue, so we imagine that Spirit will be placed rather quickly. But Spirit has more than good looks going for him. He is a dog whose positive energy simply draws people in. Spirit has a very reassuring presence, one that calms and soothes the senses. Spirit came to us when his family lost their home in the foreclosure crisis. We cannot imagine the pain of losing everything, especially a beloved pet. The only consolation we could offer was our promise to place Spirit with another loving family where he would be safe and secure. Spirit has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Spirit will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are looking for a new friend to help lift your Spirits in these difficult times, then please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application ... Spirit is surely the dog for you.

Snoop Dog (Adopted, December 2008)

Snoop Dog is a handsome 10-12 month old pale buff Cocker Spaniel. This adorable boy was an owner surrender who came into the Manhattan Shelter. Snoop is a typical puppy, playful and curious, with an energetic nature. Life to him is just one big adventure, with lots of things to discover! Snoop Dog is a very friendly boy who gets along well both with people and with other pets. He should make an excellent family dog.

Rusty (Adopted, December 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO TIM AND FAMILY OF JERSEY CITY, NJ FOR OFFERING RUSTY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Rusty is looking for a FOSTER HOME ... or, better still, an adoptive home where he can receive all the love and attention that he deserves! Rusty is a handsome 12 year old senior Cocker Spaniel who was surrendered to a shelter in Pennsylvania when his owner passed away. As one might imagine, Rusty became depressed and despondent and very nearly lost all will to live. Since coming into Rescue, Rusty has begun to revive. Although he was at first quite unhappy, he has at last begun to wag his stubby tail. He recently enjoyed a bath and professional grooming and has been lapping up affection. We have just run some bloodwork to be sure that Rusty does not have a thyroid or other medical condition, as he is quite a chunky boy. His bloodwork came back perfect, so we imagine that Rusty was simply overfed. He is rather annoyed at having been put on a diet, but endeavoring to make the best of it. Rusty is okay with other dogs most of the time and would likely be fine with cats. However, he is such an attention hog that he would probably prefer to be the only pet. Rusty would be a wonderful companion for a retired person or someone who is looking for a low key pet. Rusty has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to give Rusty a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Marisa (Adopted, November 2008)

Ready to start "Putting on the Ritz"? Yes, even in this slump of an economy, it's possible to celebrate in style. Of course, it helps to have ultra-trendy Marisa (fondly known as "Ritzy") by your side. This 8-10 year old buff and white beauty was tossed out into the streets of New York City when economic times got tough. She finally ended up a stray at Brooklyn Animal Care and Control, which is not a particularly optimistic place in which to find oneself, especially as a senior dog. However, by "Putting on the Ritz", a move she learned while watching Dancing With the Stars, Marisa gained some attention for herself. With a little creative adaptation, she's now branded her repertoire the Ritzy Wiggle Dance, making her the perfect candidate for our Ritzy Rescue. Marisa has now been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Marisa a foster home or, better still, a forever home to call her own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Marisa says it's time to shake off these economic blues by "Putting on the Ritz" with a little Ritzy wag and wiggle.

Paris Couture (Adopted, November 2008)

PARIS IS CURRENTLY BOARDING AT COUNTRY KENNELS IN HUNLOCK CREEK, PA. WHILE SHE IS ENJOYING THE COUNTRY LIFE, SHE WOULD LIKE A FAMILY OF HER OWN! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO OFFER PARIS A FOSTER HOME OR, BETTER STILL, AN ADOPTIVE HOME TO CALL HER OWN, PLEASE EMAIL RESCUE@NYABANDONEDANGELS.COM FOR MORE INFORMATION.

BIO:

Meet Paris Couture ... she's the perfect fit, custom-made for you. Paris is a beautiful purebred sable Cocker Spaniel with SKY BLUE EYES who came into the Manhattan Shelter as an owner surrender. She is just 3-4 years old. Finding Paris in the New York City shelter system was a bit like spotting a piece of vintage couture in a thrift shop ... we immediately knew that somebody's "throwaway" was actually a priceless collectible. You don't need to shop at Chanel to achieve that ultra chic look everyone will envy this season ... head out for the morning paper with this gorgeous Cocker Spaniel trotting at your side and heads will turn (even if you've just rolled out of bed and are carrying a baggie rather than an Hermes Birkin). Paris has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. Sable cockers are quite difficult to come by, especially in rescue, so don't delay! If you would like to bring this piece of Paris Couture home to your runway, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Paris is waiting to share all her fashion secrets with you ... until then, she's blowing you a big "Bisou!" XXOO

Vanilla Shake and Vanilla Float are fully vaccinated, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. They are not yet neutered, therefore their adopters will have to take them home on a spay/neuter contract or undertake to bring them back for neuter once we have an appointment set up for them (most likely in September). These dogs are NOT HOUSEBROKEN and will require crate-training. Bay-Z (Adopted, October 2008)

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO DOT OF NJ FOR OFFERING BAY-Z A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH BAY-Z IS SHARING WITH THREE OTHER DOGS, TWO OF WHOM WERE ADOPTED BY DOT FROM ABANDONED ANGELS ... PEEK-A-BOO, A FEMALE COCKER, AND CHANDLER, A SPANIEL-COLLIE-SAINT BERNARD MIX! THANK YOU DOT FOR ADDING BAY-Z TO YOUR HAPPY PACK!

Bay-Z is a handsome 4 year old champagne buff male Cocker Spaniel who is 24 pounds of pure love. We decided to name this precious boy after my beloved Cocker Spaniel “Bailey” who passed away January 10th of this year. There was something so special about this scared boy that reminded me of my Bailey instantly.
Bay-Z was picked up as a stray by Animal Control and brought to the Brooklyn Shelter where he remained for about a week overcome with fear, shaking profusely, hoping that some one would claim him. Sadly, no one did. When we first met him, I couldn’t bear to see this gentle soul suffer anymore. Within minutes, we had bailed Bay-Z out and whisked him away in our Rescue Getaway Mobile. As soon as he got into our car, his eyes began to shine and he actually smiled (as evident in the first photo we took of him, which is posted here).

Bay-Z is a gentle and loving soul ... I didn’t need to know him for more than just a few moments to see that, I could immediately feel it; he has a kind spirit that just reaches out to you and touches your heart. Bay-Z is currently at our Vet being treated for an upper respiratory infection, a skin infection that was caused by neglect, and to repair a cherry eye. Bay-Z is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar.

Whether she's a dog lover or not (we're not sure), even Beyonce would fall in love with Bay-Z ... not all of us can marry the American Gangster, but the perfect alternative is the American Cocker! Our Bay-Z is now traveling the road to recovery. Once he is well, he will be searching for a new path, one that will bring him to his FOREVER HOME. Perhaps you can take him there. If you would like to help Bay-Z on his way, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bay-Z will be checking his inbox daily for emails from his fan club!

Chaka Khan (Adopted, October 2008)

Chaka Khan is a handsome 5 year old Cavalier King Charles/Cocker Spaniel cross who came to us as a neglect case from the Manhattan Shelter, where he was an owner surrender. He is one of the sweetest souls to cross our paths in the recent past and has quickly become a favorite at our rescue. Chaka Khan is a very friendly, loving boy who is happiest when in the company of others. Sadly, Chaka Khan was labelled "aggressive" by his owner, a cruel untruth that nearly sealed his fate. Once deemed a "problem dog", the shelter would not put Chaka Khan up for adoption and other rescues were unwilling to take a chance on him. When we heard about Chaka Khan, we felt we should make up our own minds and went to ACC to evaluate him. There we met a little dog so sad and sweet that serenades could be written about him. We quickly realized that he had a serious medical issue, as his face was partially paralyzed and his head tilted slightly to one side. Having just dealt with multiple medical emergencies, we feared we would not have the resources to help Chaka Khan, so we reached out to the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals for help in saving this badly misunderstood little guy. Chaka Khan was quickly whisked off to NYC Veterinary Specialists for evaluation and diagnosed with a severe inner ear infection, one that had gone untreated for so long that the facial nerve had been damaged. If Chaka Khan ever showed any aggression in the past, we have no doubt that it was due to excruciating ear pain, which has led many a spaniel to be wrongfully deemed a temperament case. Chaka Khan has now received the treatment he so desperately needed, but the damage to his facial nerve is irreversible. The little droop to the left side of his face will always be a lasting reminder of the neglect that he suffered in a home that did not deem him worthy of medical attention. Chaka Khan is an extremely special dog, one who bears no grudges towards the world, despite having been treated so poorly in the past. He loves to cuddle in one's lap and to give sloppy, lopsided kisses. Anyone looking to adopt a special needs dog (who we tend to think of as God's forgotten creatures) could not do better than Chaka Khan. Other than slight facial paralysis, Chaka Khan has no ongoing neurological or other medical issues. He has a superb temperament and will make a wonderful family pet. Chaka Khan has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Chaka Khan a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Chaka Khan is ready to sing a new song and may even do his favorite happy dance upon meeting you!

Fudge Sundae (Adopted, October 2008)

Fudge Sundae is a 3 year old purebred female Cocker Spaniel. She is a chocolate and white female who is sweet as hot fudge drizzled over vanilla ice cream. Fudge Sundae is one of our Mission Impossible dogs. She is a rather maternal dog who has been providing lots of reassurance to the younger crowd in the Mission Impossible group. Fudge Sundae gets along well with other pets and should be fine with kids. She is fully vaccinated, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. She is not yet spayed, therefore her adopter will have to take her home on a spay/neuter contract or undertake to bring her back for spay once we have an appointment set up for her (most likely in September). Fudge Sundae is NOT HOUSEBROKEN and will require crate-training. If you would like to submit an application to adopt Fudge Sundae, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Bobby (Adopted, October 2008)

Bobbie is a handsome jet black Cocker Spaniel just 5 years old who was turned into the Brooklyn Shelter as a stray. Bobbie is a very friendly, very playful boy who will make an EXCELLENT FAMILY PET. He literally spins with joy, just like a top! His enthusiasm is positively infectious. Bobbie is capable of putting a smile on even the grumpiest person's face! Bobbie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just been treated to a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Bobbie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bobbie is waiting to hear from you!

Fairy Princess (Adopted, October 2008)

Fairy Princess is a black and white Brittany Spaniel/Cocker cross who is seeking a fairy godmother and/or a prince charming with whom to build a new life. She is a very mild-natured, sweet and gentle dog, 6-7 years young, who was surrendered to the Manhattan Shelter when her family down-sized their apartment. Evidently they did not appreciate the loyal and true nature that lies within the heart of almost any dog. Most would prefer to live in a home the size of a closet rather than be parted from those they love. Even if offered the choice of life in a palace, a dog will leave the greatest opulence behind in order to trot dutifully after its owner, back to the most humble of hearths. Though initially quite heartbroken, Fairy Princess has done her best to take her changed life circumstances in stride. Upon realizing that her family was gone forever, she wagged her stubby tail (her version of a magic wand) in order to summon the help of rescue. We looked into her soulful eyes and simply melted. Fairy Princess will make a wonderful addition to any family and we believe should be trustworthy with even the youngest of kids. Fairy Princess has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Fairy Princess a fairy tale ending, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Fairy Princess is ready to sprinkle some magic pixie dust over you.

Sleigh Bells (Adopted, October 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO NANCY OF LONG ISLAND FOR OFFERING SLEIGH BELLS A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME.

Sleigh Bells is a strikingly pretty 6 month old Beagle puppy crossed with Cocker or perhaps Brittany Spaniel. Her coloring reminds us of autumn leaves and winter snow, both reminiscent of the festive seasons soon to be upon us. Sleigh Bells came to us from the Manhattan Shelter, where she was turned in as a stray. Although very scared, she nevertheless scored a "mild" on her temperament test. We anticipate that she should make an excellent family pet, especially as she gains in confidence and security. Sleigh Bells gets along well with other dogs and is friendly towards everyone she meets, although she may need a few minutes to warm up to new people. Sleigh Bells has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you are looking forward to the first cold snap of fall, then our frisky Sleigh Bells is surely the dog for you. To adopt Sleigh Bells, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Sleigh Bells is waiting to share a little of her "jingle jangle" with you!

Hazelnut Cookie (Adopted, October 2008)

Hazelnut Cookie is a handsome buff male Cocker Spaniel puppy just 9 months old. Hazy was an owner surrender to the Brooklyn Shelter due to the arrival of a new human baby in the family. As soon as the baby appeared on the scene, Hazy's autumn applecart became all upset. Instead of enjoying everything that fall has to offer a pampered pooch (walks in autumn leaves, barking at trick-o-treaters who come to the door, and begging for turkey around the Thanksgiving Day table), Hazy found himself homeless. While initially depressed, Hazy has now rebounded in typical puppy fashion. He loves to play and is high energy, so would be happiest with a backyard or regular outings to the dog run. Due to his exuberance, we believe that Hazy might do best in an adult only home or in a home with older, dog experienced kids. Hazy has now been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm, so he's all ready to go. The hazy days of summer may be over, but that's no reason to pass our Hazy by. He'll make the perfect companion for the fall and for all seasons to follow. If you would like to offer Hazy a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Hazy will be checking his inbox daily!

Mylie (Adopted, October 2008)

Mylie is an adorable purebred female Cocker Spaniel puppy just 9 months old. With her coloring and outstanding temperament, she reminds us of a black and white cookie ... just sugar sweet! Mylie weighs just 18 pounds and is nearly full-grown, so will likely remain quite a small Cocker Spaniel. Mylie came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. Some heartless person most likely dumped her on the streets when the "novelty" of owning a puppy wore off. Mylie is a very friendly, healthy girl who happened to start life off in the hands of the wrong person. We are sure that her next family will treat her like the treasure she is. Mylie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Mylie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Mylie is ready to dance her way into your heart.

Curtis (Adopted, October 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO EILEEN OF MANHATTAN FOR OFFERING CURTIS A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME BY THE GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM. CURTIS IS ENJOYING OUTINGS IN CENTRAL PARK AND LEARNING A LOT ABOUT NYC'S ART AND CULTURE SCENE!

Curtis is a 1-2 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel with a natural, undocked tail, who was found as a stray and brought to the Brooklyn Shelter in emaciated, dehydrated condition, with a laceration on his neck. He was in such poor condition that he could not have survived much longer on the streets of New York City. What misfortunes befell this poor baby we will never know. Curtis spent 3 weeks at our vet's office recovering from the traumas that he suffered before coming into rescue. Now in good health, he has gradually come out of his shell and is now a frisky, happy boy who loves toys and all the good things that life has to offer a pampered pet. He gets along well with other dogs, so could easily join a multiple pet household. Curtis was so matted upon arriving at the Brooklyn Shelter that he needed to be completely shaved down, so he is sporting a summer crew cut for now. However, his pale buff coat is downy soft and should be quite beautiful when it grows back in. Curtis is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Curtis the TLC he needs to continue his emotional recovery, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Curtis is waiting to hear from you!

Ava (Adopted, October 2008)

Ava is a beautiful purebred female Cocker Spaniel who is just a year old. She is predominantly white with buff markings. Ava is a very confident girl with loads of personality - she is highly intelligent, quite sociable, and should be fine with kids. Ava has been fully vaccinated, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. She will be spayed prior to adoption. While Ava will require a little help with housebreaking, she is responding well to crate-training and should get the hang of things soon. If you would like to submit an application to adopt Ava, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Ava is waiting to cast her spell on you!

Pepe (Adopted, September 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO JOAN OF MANHATTAN FOR OFFERING PEPE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME.

Pepe is a handsome tricolor Cocker Spaniel (black with tan markings and a splash of white on his chest). This good-looking older boy with a heart of gold is roughly 9 years old. Pepe was a stray who was found by Parks Department workers and brought to the Manhattan Shelter. He was immediately christened "Pepe Le Peu" because of his odiferous state. While wandering through the park, Pepe had apparently tried to make nice with a New York City skunk and received the royal treatment (a good spray). After multiple baths and a good grooming, Pepe is no longer sporting the unique cologne with which he arrived. He smells good and is looking very handsome. Pepe is a smaller size Cocker Spaniel with a compact, muscular build and a beautiful square muzzle. He looks to be rather well bred. Pepe is a "sure and steady" kind of dog who does not get ruffled by much of anything (skunks included), so should make an excellent family pet. Pepe has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Pepe, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Pepe will be checking his inbox daily for expressions of interest from prospective adopters, as well as for love-notes from his friend the skunk.

Cindy (Adopted, September 2008)

Cinderella is a beautiful reddish blonde Cocker Spaniel just 3 years old. Like every princess in disguise, Cinderella seeks her Prince Charming. Not only did Cinderella lose her glass slipper when she ran away from the midnight ball, she lost her way altogether, ending up at the Brooklyn Shelter. Without her carriage (or even her pumpkin) no one could identify this mysterious beauty, so she was released to rescue when her stray time was up. We have found Cinderella to be a very submissive girl who loves to roll over for belly rubs. She is extremely affectionate and sweet towards everyone she meets. She would likely greet even her wicked stepmother with a wagging tail (though it is difficult to imagine anyone being wicked towards Cinderella). Cinderella has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to help Cinderella find her way home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Cinderella is waiting to hear from her new Royal Family!

Coral Reef (Adopted, September 2008)

Coral Reef is a 4-6 month old purebred female Cocker Spaniel. She is a red and white sable female who is coconut sweet. If you found yourself Castaway on a desert island with Coral Reef, she would surely be your Wilson. Coral Reef is one of our Mission Impossible dogs. She gets along well with other pets and should be fine with kids. Coral Reef is fully vaccinated, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. She is not yet spayed, therefore her adopter will have to take her home on a spay/neuter contract or undertake to bring her back for spay once we have an appointment set up for her(most likely in September). Coral Reef is NOT HOUSEBROKEN and will require crate-training. If you would like to submit an application to adopt Coral Reef, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Redken (Adopted, September 2008)

Redken (aka "Kenny") is a handsome red Cocker Spaniel just 18 months old, named for his beautiful red tresses. This gorgeous boy could easily be used in advertising for a designer shampoo! Kenny was turned into the Manhattan Shelter by his owners due to landlord problems. While very scared, he nevertheless received a good temperament assessment. Kenny is a slightly shy boy who can be a bit timid with new people, but has shown no aggression whatsoever. We believe he would make an excellent family pet, although might do best in a home with slightly older kids. Kenny springs to life when in the company of other dogs. He loves to play and immediately loses all of his shyness. We would therefore love to see him placed in a multiple dog home. Kenny has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Kenny a loving forever home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Kenny is waiting to share his salon secrets with you!

Trilogy (Adopted, September 2008)

Trilogy is a 4-6 month old purebred female Cocker Spaniel. She is a chocolate and white female with tan points who is sweet but somewhat timid. Trilogy is one of our Mission Impossible dogs. She is a very gentle girl who sometimes finds herself overwhelmed by the more confident and rambunctious puppies in the Mission Impossible group. While Trilogy gets along well with other dogs, she has no desire to be the Alpha. She is beginning to feel secure with people and enjoys being held and cuddled. Trilogy is fully vaccinated, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. She is not yet spayed, therefore her adopter will have to take her home on a spay/neuter contract or undertake to bring her back for spay once we have an appointment set up for him (most likely in September). Trilogy is NOT HOUSEBROKEN and will require crate-training. If you would like to submit an application to adopt Trilby, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Mamma Mia (Adopted, September 2008)

Mamma Mia is a very sweet and gentle 4 year old red sable female Cocker Spaniel. She is one of our Mission Impossible dogs. Sadly, Mamma Mia has been living in the shadows, as she has impaired vision due to cataracts in both eyes. We will be having her assessed by an opthalmologist in order to determine whether the cataracts can be surgically addressed. Mamma Mia finds her way quite easily, though, and takes things in stride. Mamma Mia is microchipped, fully vaccinated, and heartworm negative. She will be spayed prior to adoption. Mamma Mia is currently in foster care, where she will remain pending an opthalmologic evaluation.

Isle of Skye (Adopted, Septeber 2008)

Isle of Skye is a 1 year old purebred female Cocker Spaniel. She is a dark sable merle who is quite timid, perhaps because her vision is not 100% ... she has a cataract in one eye which will be assessed by an opthalmologist in order to determine whether it can be surgically corrected. Isle of Skye is one of our Mission Impossible dogs. She gets along well with other pets and should be fine with kids. Isle of Skye is fully vaccinated, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. She is not yet spayed, therefore her adopter will have to take her home on a spay/neuter contract or undertake to bring her back for spay once we have an appointment set up for her (most likely in September). Isle of Skye is NOT HOUSEBROKEN and will require crate-training. If you would like to submit an application to adopt Isle of Skye, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Henry ~ BEFORE/AFTER PHOTOS (Adopted, September 2008)

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO KIM OF MASSACHUSETTS FOR OPENING HER HEART AND HOME TO OUR VERY SPECIAL HENRY. THANK YOU KIM FOR FOSTERING HENRY!

BIO:

Several months ago, we looked into the eyes of an Angel that was abandoned on the streets of Staten Island in horrific condition and told him that everything would be alright. Henry was a stray between 8 and 10 years old who was brought to a local shelter a total bloody mess. His body was covered in hot sports (sores), the result of chronic scratching. Poor Henry cried in pain. The shelter said they had never seen a dog in such terrible condition and administered several types of topical solutions to make Henry comfortable, even putting socks on him. Henry was such a good boy throughout the ordeal of his treatment, the shelter felt he should not be euthanized and sent a plea out to Rescue. We looked at his pathetic picture and could not turn our backs on him. We immediately had him transported to our Vet's office and ordered extensive blood work, skin scrapings, and skin cultures on Henry, all of which came back negative for the usual suspects (mange, ringworm, etc). Although Henry does have a heart murmur and some visual deficit, his bloodwork actually looks excellent. Our vet subsequently ran a battery of allergy tests, which revealed a number of environmental allergies. We have been administering custom mixed allergy shots on Henry for several months now, as well as a lengthy course of antibiotics, and Henry has slowly begun to improve. Despite his allergies, Henry need never have been reduced to the condition in which he was found … the true culprit is a lifetime of NEGLECT by owners who did not provide Henry with the love and care he so deserved. One would never know from Henry's demeanor what an unfortunate boy he was before coming into Rescue. He loves life, going for walks, being petted, and simply being near those who care for him. He showers us with endless kisses and gets along well with other dogs, even with cats. He is a gentle boy who could even be trusted with the smallest of children. Henry is a Cocker with an enormous loving heart and a soul to match. If your heart and soul are equally large, perhaps Henry is the dog for you. You will never come across a pet more grateful or deserving than our Henry.

Orie (Adopted, September 2008)

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO GLORIA OF THE BRIGHTON BEACH SECTION OF BROOKLYN FOR OFFERING ORIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME BY THE SEA. ORIE IS ENJOYING LIFE ON THE BEACH, WHERE HE PLAYS BALL AND RUNS WITH OTHER DOGS IN THE EVENINGS. THANK YOU, GLORIA, FOR TAKING SUCH WONDERFUL CARE OF OUR ORIE AND FOR GIVING HIM THE OPPORTUNITY TO DIP HIS PAWS IN THE SURF!

BIO:

Hello, my name is Orie and this is my True Story. I was adopted as a young pup by a family on Long Island and lived happily with them until the age of 9 years. My family took wonderful care of me and I am in great health, neutered, microchipped, up-to-date with all shots, and heartworm negative (I need a dental, but that will be taken care of before my adoption). There are three children in our home who I love very much. Unfortunately, an accident occurred recently, which was really no one's fault. However, someone had to take the blame, and sadly it was me. On what was otherwise a normal day at home, I was fast asleep when my 4 year old human sister tripped and fell on top of me. I was very startled, as I did not know what was going on, and as I woke from my deep sleep, you can imagine what happened. To make a short story shorter, I snapped at my baby sister and grazed her skin. While it was really nothing more than a scratch, the fact that I broke the skin even a little was enough to get me into very big trouble. My baby sister was more frightened than hurt (the same went for me) but Mom and Dad are now very concerned that something like this might happen again, especially now that my littlest human sibling is beginning to crawl. While everyone is very upset about this turn of events, they nevertheless say that I have to go. I love people (kids included) and am good with other dogs, so I am highly adoptable. I just hope that, at 9 years old, my age will not count against me. I am a little cocker, just 26 pounds, and really I would not hurt a flea, at least not intentionally. Sadly, the stars have just not aligned for me in a fortunate way, so now I must move on. I would like a home with older kids or perhaps with just adults so that I will not be quite so underfoot. I do not want to find myself in this kind of trouble again. If you would like to help me change my fate in a positive way, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application to adopt or foster me. I'll be checking my inbox daily! Love, Orie XXOO

Cream Soda (Adopted, September 2008)

Hello, my name is Cream Soda. I am a very adorable Toy Poodle just 10-12 months old. I am a little guy weighing only 8 pounds. Life in the great big world has started out kind of rough for a tiny little dog like me. I was recently placed in the position of having to defend myself against a child who smacked me (quite hard, I might add ... I'm not exactly as hardy as a Saint Bernard, after all, so that smack really hurt). No one was interested in my side of the story, so I was surrendered to the Manhattan shelter as a bite case. I have shown no aggression either at the pound or in rescue. Please understand, in ordinary circumstances, I truly would not hurt a fly. Surely I deserve another chance at happiness! I would like an adult only home or a family with older kids who understand that a dog is not a toy and that we animals feel pain as much as humans do. I need to be handled with love and care, after all, I'm a sensitive little fellow and quite delicate. Drop a 5 lb bag of sugar on me and I might not survive! I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. They say the Cream always rises to the Top, so if you would like to add a little Cream to your Pop, I'm surely the dog for you. To request an application, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be waiting to hear from you. Lots of love in the meantime ... Your Friend, Cream Soda XXOO

Cloud 9 (Adopted, September 2008)

Hello, my name is Cloud 9. I am an older, breezy kind of girl ... just look at the way the wind catches my ears. I almost look as if I could take flight! Don't you find me just as adorable as can be? I'd like to tell you my full story, but there is not much I can say. I was found on the streets of Queens a few years ago and am believed to be around 10 years old at this time. I have amnesia about everything that occurred before I was found. My owners are now moving and once again there is no place for me in my family's life. This time, however, instead of being tossed in the road, my owners have contacted Rescue. Sounds much better, if you ask me! I am a very good girl and very anxious to please, I just have not been as lucky as some (but then I've been luckier than others, at least I have Rescue on my side). I have just been examined by a vet and found to be in good health. I am spayed, microchipped, am up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I'm shortly scheduled to have a dental and will be going in for a professional grooming. If you like the feel of the wind in your hair, I'd love to join you in your convertible ... just be sure to strap me in real tight, I'm not sure these ears would work as wings if we actually put them to the test. I'd love to drive off into the sunset with you (although I know current gas prices are a bit of an issue). If you'd nevertheless like to take me for a forever spin, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be waiting to hear from you, up here on Cloud 9. Lots of love till then ... XXOO

Lola Belle (Adopted, September 2008)

Lola Belle is a very pretty reddish buff and white female Cocker Spaniel just 5 years old who is coming to us as an owner surrender. Her family is relocating this summer and are unable to take Lola with them. Lola Belle has a FABULOUS TEMPERAMENT and is great with both kids and other dogs. She is an extremely sweet-natured girl. Lola Belle is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Lola Belle a new forever home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Lola Belle's face is the kind that is sure to launch a thousand ships (as well as e-mails), so don't delay ... Lola Belle will be checking her inbox daily!

Missy (Adopted, September 2008)

Missy is a 4 year old purebred female Cocker Spaniel. She is a red sable girl with one blue and one brown eye (like earth and sky). Missy is one of our Mission Impossible dogs. She gets along well with other pets and should be fine with kids. Missy is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. Missy is PARTIALLY HOUSEBROKEN and will require crate-training. If you would like to submit an application to adopt Missy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Ben and Jerry (Adopted, September 2008)

Ben and Jerry are purebred male Cocker Spaniels. These adorable boys are littermates and are just 8 weeks old. Ben and Jerry are two of our Mission Impossible dogs. While they were both quite droopy after their long trip to our Rescue and had us very worried, after a good night's sleep they have perked right up (the way many of us would when sinking into an ice cream cone at the end of a really bad day). Ben and Jerry are now very happy boys who are showing lots of personality - both are quite sociable and, of all our Mission Impossible dogs, seem to have the most to say! Ben and Jerry are fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. These dogs are NOT HOUSEBROKEN and will require crate-training. If you would like to submit an application to adopt Ben and Jerry (who would like to stay together), please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Brandywine (Adopted, August 2008)

Brandywine is a lovely 7 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who has passed through our Rescue twice. The old adage "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" definitely applies to our relationship with Brandy. We first met Brandy in 2003, when she was turned into the Brooklyn Shelter as a stray. When her stray time was up, she was microchipped and released to us. Within just a few days of Brandy's arrival, we received a frantic call from her owner, who explained that she had gone out of town and left Brandy with a neighbor. Evidently, Brandy had gotten out and the neighbor did not take the necessary measures to retrieve the dog. After much pleading on the owner's part, we agreed to relinquish Brandy to her owner's care. Imagine our surprise when, five years later, Brandy once again found herself in the NYC shelter system, this time at the Staten Island pound, who got in touch with us through a microchip trace. We took immediate steps to retrieve Brandy and have no intentions of being fooled again should her owner come looking for her. Brandy is a bit of an older girl now, but just as pretty as she ever was (like a fine vintage, our Brandywine has only improved with time). Brandy is just as sweet as they come ... no fooling! She should make an excellent family pet. Brandy has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just been treated to a professional grooming and will shortly be going in for a dental. If you would like to offer Brandy a foster home or, better still, a forever home to call her own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Brandy will be checking her inbox daily.

Lucille Ball (Lucy) (Adopted, August 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO SARIKA OF THE EAST VILLAGE FOR OFFERING LUCY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN THIS TRENDY CORNER OF MANHATTAN!

Lucy is an adorable 3 year old reddish buff Cocker Spaniel who was found wandering around the Staten Island Mall, where she was evidently dumped. Like any good-natured comedienne, Lucy decided to take things in stride. She did a little window shopping and tried to find the local Petco. But without identification or her American Express card, Lucy's shopping spree was cut rather short. Eventually she was turned in to Staten Island ACC as a stray and, when she went unclaimed, was released to Rescue. We decided to christen this perky American Cocker after Lucille Ball, a legendary piece of Americana. After all, who doesn't love Lucy?? Our Lucy also adores playing Ball (amazingly, she can throw as well as retrieve!!), so what better name for her. Lucy is currently being treated for a skin infection through a regimen of medicated baths and antibiotics, but is otherwise in good shape. She has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. We've also treated Lucy to some much-deserved shopping (she is now sporting a trendy new leash and collar). If you are ready for some laughs and are looking for a dog as American as apple pie, then search no further. Our little comedy icon is just the girl for you. Come meet her and find yourself saying "I LOVE LUCY!"

Sister (Adopted, August 2008)

"Sister-Sister" are two purebred female Cocker Spaniels. These lovely girls are 1 year old littermates. They are mostly white with buff markings, but are easy to distinguish from one another (one has hazel eyes and a pink nose, the other dark brown eyes with a black nose). The Sisters are two of our Mission Impossible dogs. They are very confident girls with loads of personality - both are quite sociable and should be fine with kids. Of our entire Mission Impossible group, they seem to be the fastest on their feet - both are quite intelligent girls. The Sisters are fully vaccinated, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. They are not yet spayed, therefore their adopters will have to take them home on a spay/neuter contract or undertake to bring them back for spay once we have an appointment set up for them (most likely in September). These dogs are NOT HOUSEBROKEN and will require crate-training. If you would like to submit an application to adopt these two Sisters (who would like to stay together), please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

If you would like to submit an application to adopt Moonstruck, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

With his enthusiastic attitude, he will have you believing that all things are possible in no time at all. Firecracker gets along well with other dogs and should be fine with kids. Firecracker is fully vaccinated, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative. Firecracker is NOT HOUSEBROKEN and will require crate-training. If you would like to submit an application to adopt Firecracker, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Lonnie(Adopted, August 2008)

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO JEAN AND BILL OF LONG ISLAND FOR OFFERING LONNIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH LONNIE IS SHARING WITH JEAN AND BILL'S TWO YOUNG DAUGHTERS. LONNIE IS ENJOYING LOTS OF TLC AND IS LOVING FAMILY LIFE ON LONG ISLAND!

Lonnie is a 6 year old purebred buff Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan shelter as an owner surrender when his dad fell ill. While not a seeing eye dog, we are told that Lonnie has experience working with the blind. With his sweet and docile temperament, we can well understand why he would have been used as a therapy dog in the past and has a very calming influence on those around him. He is among the gentlest souls to pass through our Rescue in some time. What's more, he is handsome as can be. Lonnie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are looking for a dog to soothe your soul, then let your spirit rest right here. Please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Lonnie will be checking his inbox daily.

Pepsi aka Buffie (Adopted, August 2008)

UPDATE: Pepsi has just gone home on a trial foster-to-adopt period with Janis, where he will be spending several weeks at the Jersey Shore. Pepsi intends to take full advantage of his "day at the beach" with Janis and is hopeful that he has found his forever home. We have our paws crossed for Pepsi. Thank you, Janis, for giving Pepsi a place to hang his hat as you get to know one another.

LATEST UPDATE FROM BUFFIE'S FOSTER MOM: BUFFIE IS DOING GREAT! ALTHOUGH HE INITIALLY SHOWED SIGNS OF POSSIBLE SEPARATION ANXIETY, BUFF HAS COMPLETELY CALMED DOWN AND IS DOING WONDERFULLY WELL. HE IS FULLY HOUSEBROKEN AND VERY TRUSTWORTHY WHEN LEFT ALONE IN THE HOUSE. BUFFIE IS VERY INTELLIGENT AND KNOWS BASIC COMMANDS SUCH AS "SIT", "GIVE PAW" AND "LAY DOWN." BUFFIE LOVES TO SOCIALIZE WITH PEOPLE AND OTHER DOGS, AND IS EVEN GOOD WITH CATS (HE DID WONDERFULLY WELL WITH EVERYONE AT A RECENT FATHER'S DAY PARTY). THANK YOU, LINDA, FOR PROVIDING BUFFIE WITH YOUR VERY SPECIAL BRAND OF TLC! AS THE BEATLES WOULD SAY, SOMETIMES "ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE" TO REACH YOUR FULL POTENTIAL!

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO LINDA AND HER RESCUED SHIH TZU ZOEY OF THE COUNTRY CLUB SECTION OF THE BRONX FOR OFFERING BUFFIE (FORMERLY KNOWN AS PEPSI) A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME.THANK YOU LINDA AND ZOEY!

BIO:

Buffie is a handsome buff male Cocker Spaniel 6 years old who was found as a stray. He is a fairly tall Cocker weighing around 30 pounds. When his owners could not be located despite a diligent search, his finder contacted rescue. Buffie has a winning personality ... this happy-to-lucky boy is perpetually wagging his tail and is very friendly with everyone. He responds both to his name and to a whistle, bounding back as if greeting a long lost friend. Buffie enjoys spending time in his crate, where he will sleep soundly, lost in peaceful dreams, instinctively knowing that he is safe. He gets along well with other pets, both dogs and cats, so could easily join a multiple pet household. Buffie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Buffie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Buffie is waiting to hear from you!

Nugget(Adopted, August 2008)

UPDATE: BIG NEWS! Nugget is now enjoying life in a foster home in NJ with his foster mom Jennifer, Jennifer's husband, and his foster sister Brownie, an elegant standard poodle. Jennifer reports that Nugget is an extremely affectionate boy. He has shown no signs of food aggression and will sit upon command before taking a treat from Jennifer's hand; he does engage in mild resource guarding, however. Nugget adores attention and loves to cuddle with his foster family on the sofa, as well as joining Jennifer and friends for pilates workouts and long hikes! Nugget loves being the center of attention. Jennifer reports that he did wonderfully well during his grooming appointment ... far from needing to be muzzled, Nugget showered the groomer with kisses! Many thanks to Jennifer and her family for providing Nugget with a foster home while he seeks his Forever Family. Our goal is to have Nugget adopted by the New Year!

Nugget is a 3 year old buff Cocker Spaniel with beautiful hazel eyes, an adorable pink nose, and a long, natural tail that is always swishing away. Although we love all of our Cockers, now and again we meet a dog like Nugget, who strikes us as having a rather special spirit. Nugget is a big boy with a big heart who has managed to maintain his trust in people despite having been severely neglected. This handsome boy was surrendered to Brooklyn Animal Control in such filthy, matted condition that he had to be completely shaved down. Underneath it all, we discovered a skin infection, as well as inflamed and infected ears that had not been cleaned in months, if not years. Now that he is in our care, Nugget is feeling much better. After enjoying some soothing medicated baths, his skin is looking much better, and the infections in his ears are clearing. He is recovering nicely and will be ready for adoption soon. Nugget has been neutered, is up-to-date on his shots, and has also tested negative for heartworm. We would prefer an experienced Cocker home without young children for Nugget, as he can be somewehat protective of bones and treats and will require some remedial training in this area. Any children in the household should therefore be 12 and up. Nugget ADORES other dogs and has so far shown no aggression towards cats, so could be adopted into a multiple pet household. If you would like to open your heart and home to Nugget, please contact us to discuss him further.

Arby (Adopted, August 2008)

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO PALMITA FOR OFFERING ARBY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN MID-TOWN MANHATTAN NEAR THE U.N. ARBY IS ENJOYING THE INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND SHOWING A FLAIR FOR DIPLOMACY WITH EVERYONE HE MEETS!

Arby is a handsome black and white Cocker Spaniel just 5 years old. He is a happy-go-lucky boy with a zest for life whose little tail is always wagging. Arby came to us from the Manhattan shelter where he had been surrendered by his owners, who were relocating. Arby is GREAT WITH CATS and has been friendly with the other rescued cockers he has met (although he does not always want to share his toys). Arby has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just gone in for surgery to have a cherry eye corrected, following which he will be all ready to go. Anyone looking for a super companion with a great demeanor could not do better than Arby. If you would like to offer Arby a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Arby is waiting to hear from you!

Dannie (Adopted, August 2008)

Dannie is a 2 year old buff Cocker Spaniel who will be turning 3 years old on October 19th ... in other words, he's a Libra, one of the most charming signs of the zodiac. Libra is the only zodiac symbol that's neither animal nor human ... in fact, we like to think of our Dannie as a little bit of both. Just as Libra is among the most sociable of signs, Dannie is among the most sociable of dogs. Like any good Libra, Dannie responds to situations with grace and attempts to put others at ease. He is a champion of interpersonal relationships (so of course he's FULLY HOUSEBROKEN). What a wonderful animal with whom to share one's life! If you are wondering how such a special dog finds himself looking for a new home on petfinder, well ... as his previous owner relayed: "my son came home from college and seems to be allergic to him as his eyes tear and he breaks out in hives when he's near him too long. We love him (Dannie), but we cannot give my son away." While it's a sad situation for Dannie and his family, Dannie is sure to rise to the occasion and, in no time at all, become the delight of someone else's life. Dannie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you believe in signs and the mysterious ways in which the stars align to bring living beings together, then Dannie is the dog for you. If you would like to meet Dannie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Dannie will be checking his email (and his horoscope) daily.

Sprite (Adopted, August 2008)

Hi, my name is Sprite. As you can see, I'm not afraid to pose for a close-up. As adorable as I am, why on earth would I be? I refuse to allow the fact that I came into the Brooklyn shelter as a stray affect my self-esteem. After all, I am a 2 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel and am just cute as can be, from my hazel eyes right down to my little pink nose (just like a bunny rabbit). I can almost run as fast, too! I have a wonderful temperament and, better than the average lap puppy, will even wrap my paws around your neck to give you a giant hug. I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I have just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are looking for a spritely dog to put some fizz in your summer (and all seasons to follow) please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my inbox daily! Love, Sprite

Honey (Adopted, July 2008)

UPDATE: Hi there, it's me, Honey Pot, posing with my two foster sisters. That's me in the middle. I'm a little embarrassed by my two cherry eyes, but they'll be tucked away in no time at all, and then I'll look as beautiful as my sisters. They are encouraging me not to be self-conscious, after all, what's a little protruding tear duct. I am really loving life here in rural Connecticut. It sure beats the urban jungle anyday. Anyway, that's the latest from me, the happiest Honey Pot ever and the sweetest by far!

BIO:

Honey Pot is a very pretty 1 year old red and white female Cocker Spaniel who was surrendered to the Brooklyn Shelter due to landlord problems. She is a very happy, wiggly girl who loves and adores everyone. Honey Pot would make a perfect family dog and could be trusted with the smallest of kids. Honey Pot has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will shortly have surgery to correct double cherry eye (a protruding tear duct), following which she will be perfect as can be. Honey Pot will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are looking for a sweet honey of a dog, then look no further ... please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Honey Pot will be checking her inbox daily!

Laurel (Adopted, July, 2008)

Laurel seeks Hardy ... or someone else to make him laugh. But if you're blue yourself, don't despair ... this little guy will have you smiling in no time at all. Laurel is a VERY GENTLE 3 year old jet black Cocker Spaniel who came into the Brooklyn shelter as an owner surrender. How anyone could neglect such a sweet little dog and then abandon him at a kill shelter is one of life's many mysteries. While Laurel doesn't have the answer, he promises to try and come up with a few jokes about his situation (always easier to do after the fact than in the midst of desperation). Although he tried to keep his sense of humor about it all, even poor Laurel struggled to paint on a smile. His ears were badly inflamed and he also had a nasty skin infection, so his prospects of adoption were slim to none. Fortunately, rescue placement was somehow found for Laurel, whereupon he immediately began receiving the care he so desperately needed. Now on a regimen of antibiotics and medicated baths, Laurel is rebounding quickly and will soon be ready for adoption (or interim foster placement).

Dogs who remain of good cheer despite their suffering always inspire us, not just as rescuers, but also as human beings. Whenever we ourselves are feeling low on optimism, we think of the faith, endurance and courage to which a neglected dog will cling. They simply don't give up or lose confidence that better things are just around the next corner. It's just one reason why we love and admire them so much. If this little dog's story has inspired you enough to play Hardy to his Laurel, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Laurel has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar ... and, of course, a spring in his step.

Jiff (Adopted, July 2008)

Choosy Moms Choose Jif ... so if you're a choosy Mom (or Dad) I hope that you'll decide to choose me. I am a 7-8 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel with an EXCELLENT TEMPERAMENT. I am a Steady Eddie type who could be trusted with even the youngest of kids. I get along great with everyone, both people and other pets. Not much seems to rattle me ... I think I could stay calm even if bombs began to drop. Anyway, that's the case I made to my owner when I found out he was being deployed for military service. I figured I could help by becoming a bomb sniffing dog or by going under cover behind enemy lines, but my owner said it would not be safe for me. So he surrendered me to Rescue. I tried very hard to be stoic and brave, but I must say that my lower lip did quiver when he dropped me off and drove away. I guess we Cockers have to make sacrifices for God and Country sometimes too, it's all part of being a Patriot. After all, they don't call me an American Cocker for nothing. Anyway, everyone is very nice to me here in Rescue and tells me what a good boy I am, so I hope to find a forever home soon. I am in excellent health, neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I'm also FULLY HOUSEBROKEN. If you would like to do your part to help our troops overseas, perhaps you could offer me a place to hang my military cap. To adopt or foster me, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my inbox daily! While I'm a choosy Cocker, I'm just waiting to choose you!

Alana Morrisette (Adopted, July 2008)

Meet Alanis, a STUNNING cocker spaniel/collie cross who we have named after the bold, beautiful and oh-so-talented artist Alanis Morissette. Alanis is one of the most gorgeous mixed breeds ever to pass through our rescue. She has the strong and gentle spirit of a wise old soul. The only things fierce about Alanis are her beauty and her abiding loyalty towards those she loves. We found Alanis at Manhattan Animal Care and Control, where she had been turned in as a stray. While initially somewhat bewildered by her surroundings, Alanis quickly rallied and rose to the occasion of charming her way out. Due to the presence of a large mass on her chest, Alanis was deemed a rescue candidate only. We immediately had our vet remove the tumor, which a biopsy showed to be a benign fatty deposit known as a lipoma (extremely common in dogs). At the time of her surgery, we also had Alanis spayed and treated her to a dental. She has in addition been microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. After a trip to the groomer, Alanis is now looking exceptionally regal. Can you provide Alanis with a forever home fit for a Pop Diva (if not for a Queen)? If you would like to adopt Alanis, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Alanis will go home with a new leash and collar and her favorite CD.

Lucky Charm (Adopted, July 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO TABATHA AND FAMILY OF THE BRONX FOR OFFERING LUCKY CHARM A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

BIO:

Lucky Charm is a 13 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who was abandoned at the Staten Island shelter by the family with whom she had made her home since puppyhood. We can't imagine how anyone could have surrendered such a Charmer at the tail-end of her life, particularly at a kill shelter. While initially quite bewildered by her sudden change in circumstances, Lucky Charm is now all wags and wiggles. She is very friendly with everyone she meets, both people and other animals, and is even good with kids. Lucky Charm is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. While 13 is often reputed to be an unlucky number, where Lucky Charm is concerned, we beg to differ! If you would like to adopt this special older girl, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Lucky Charm will be checking her inbox daily!

Dexter (Adopted, July 2008)

Dexter is a handsome 1 year old chocolate Cocker Spaniel who came to us from the Manhattan Shelter, where he was surrendered by his family due to landlord issues. Dexter is a very friendly boy who will make an excellent pet for a family with children. His little tail is always on the go and he is forever giving kisses. Dexter is simply as happy as can be and as perfect as they come. Dexter has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Dexter, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Dexter is ready to find his forever family!

Jolie (Adopted, June 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO YVONNE AND FAMILY OF BLAKESLEE, PA FOR OFFERING JOLIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

BIO:

Jolie is a very petite and extremely adorable purebred Cocker Spaniel just 2 years old who weighs roughly 20 pounds. She is a beautiful parti-colored Cocker (red and white) with a natural tail who was found as a stray and brought to the Brooklyn shelter. Poor Jolie was badly neglected and matted to the skin, but nevertheless was all wags and wiggles. Severe matting is very painful to a dog, so Jolie's experience at our groomer's was quite unpleasant. Nevertheless, Jolie remained her kissy self throughout her ordeal, her long tail always swishing away. Her deep brown eyes (which are framed by the most glamorous long eyelashes) gazed at our groomer with the most incredible trust. She seems to know that we are all on her side. Jolie is a real beauty who is as lovely inside as she is outside. She is a real lap dog who will make a wonderful companion, as all she wants to do is to love and be loved. Jolie is currently being fostered in a home with older kids, where she is doing wonderfully well. While she can be somewhat dominant with other dogs, Jolie does fine with very passive dogs who are content to let her assume the alpha role. Jolie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer this friendly beauty a forever home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels,com and request an application. Jolie is waiting to hear from you!

Oberon (Adopted, June 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO KIM AND FAMILY OF ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY FOR OFFERING OBIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME. OBIE IS CURRENTLY HANGING HIS HAT WITH WILSUN (FORMERLY KNOWN AS "TINSEL"), ANOTHER COCKER WHO WAS ADOPTED FROM ABANDONED ANGELS A YEAR OR SO AGO. OBIE IS PICTURED HERE RUNNING WITH WILSUN IN THE SNOWY YARD OF HIS FOSTER HOME AND (MORE RECENTLY) ENJOYING THE FIRST SUNNY DAYS OF SPRING!

Oberon is named after the King of the Fairies character in Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream." Obie is an older dog believed to be about 9 or 10 who was found as a hungry stray. He is a larger size Cocker Spaniel weighing just under 40 pounds. Obie is very gentle and loving and could be placed in a home with kids. He gets along well with other dogs and, as he has shown no aggression, should do fine with cats as well. He's FULLY HOUSEBROKEN, too! Obie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He's recently had full bloodwork as well as a dental. While his bloodwork showed him to have a very mild thyroid condition, it's easily addressed with a daily pill, the cost of which is pennies per tablet. If you would like to offer Obie his Dream Home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Obie has been dreaming about YOU!

Laura (Adopted, June 2008)

Laura is a 9 month old buff female Cocker Spaniel puppy who was found as a stray and turned into the Manhattan shelter. She is very scared and shy, so will need lots of tender love and care until she regains her confidence. Laura loves to be carried, petted and cared for. In response to kindness, she gives lots of little licks on the face. She is very grateful for the love she receives. Laura does not like a lot of noise or when dogs approach her too suddenly, so would likely do best in a suburban environment, perhaps with a calm, slightly older dog who can provide her with reassurance. Small children would likely overwhelm her, so an adult only home or a home with older, dog savvy kids would likely be best for her. Like any puppy, Laura will need some help with housebreaking, but should learn quickly once she receives the right guidance. Laura is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Laura a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Laura will be checking her inbox daily!

Cream Puff HW+ (Adopted, June 2008)

LATEST UPDATE: Our deepest thanks to everyone who sent thoughts, prayers and funds for Cream Puff. We are delighted to say that Cream Puff has pulled through! He has just completed the last stage of heartworm treatment and is now officially out of the woods! During the 6 weeks that Cream Puff remained in our vet's office, he touched the heart of a vet techs working there. They have formed a special bond and she has decided to adopt him ... a very happy ending for a very special dog. A big thank you to everyone who helped us fight the good fight for Cream Puff's life. While the financial cost of saving him was high ($1800.00), he was worth every cent.

Cream Puff HW+

UPDATE: Cream Puff has just completed the first stage of heartworm treatment. We are currently in the most dangerous phase. As the adult worms die off and travel through the dog's bloodstream, the dog is at real risk of sudden death. We are keeping Cream Puff extra quiet during this time. Except for brief potty breaks, he is confined to cage rest. Please keep sweet Cream Puff in your thoughts and prayers during this period of "wait and see." We will continue to post regular updates.

Cream Puff is a handsome 1-2 year old Cocker/Retriever cross who was found as a stray. When his owner could not be located, Cream Puff came into rescue. Sadly, Cream Puff is SEVERELY HEARTWORM POSITIVE and currently undergoing treatment for his massive heartworm infestation, the result of neglect in a rural home. We have lost dogs to heartworm treatment in the past (the animal can succumb suddenly to an embolism as the adult worms die off and break apart), therefore Cream Puff needs all the positive thoughts and prayers that we can muster. WE ARE ALSO IN URGENT NEED OF DONATIONS TO FUND CREAM PUFF'S COSTLY HEARTWORM TREATMENT, INCLUDING ECHOCARDIOGRAMS AND BLOODWORK. Cream Puff is a very sweet and loving boy who deserves the best of everything. Above all, he deserves to survive! Cream Puff gets along well with everyone, including other dogs. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP FUND CREAM PUFF'S VETERINARY CARE, PLEASE PAYPAL YOUR DONATION TO US AT: DONATION@NYABANDONEDANGELS.COM

Cream Puff thanks you for your love and support! Cream Puff would like you to know that Abandoned Angels is a 501(c) corporation and that your donation will be tax-deductible.

Corkie (Adopted, June 2008)`

Corkie is a 2-3 year old black and white Cocker Spaniel. His light brown eyes have a special sparkle that reflect his warm and loving personality. Corkie loves people and other dogs - he recently covered a rather insecure new rescue's face with kisses, as if to reassure and comfort him. We can only describe him as an AWESOME boy. Corkie is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm.e He is currently recovering from a bad upper respiratory infection he picked up at the Brooklyn shelter, but is now on the mend. Corkie will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are ready to pop a cork, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application to adopt Corkie. This one is a rare vintage!

Lola-Adopted, June 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO JAMES AND SUSAN OF STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT (FORMER FOSTER PARENTS TO BRANDY - AKA "PANSY") FOR OFFERING LOLA A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME. LOLA IS ENJOYING LIFE WITH BELLA, JAMES AND SUSAN'S BEAUTIFUL COCKER SPANIEL. THANK YOU JAMES, SUSAN AND BELLA!

Lola is a smaller sized 13 month old chocolate Cocker Spaniel with a white blaze down her neck. She was born on April 7, 2007. Lola was surrendered to us by her owner because she was moving to an apartment when pets are not allowed. Lola was well cared for and deeply loved. She was fed Nutro chicken and rice dog food (she is allergic to red meat). Lola has a wonderful temperament - she is BEYOND A TREASURE! She is 18 pounds of pure sugar. She loves to cuddle and comes running whenever her name is called, her whole body wiggling. Lola loves everybody and everything. For a tiny treasure, Lola has enormous love in her heart. Lola has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She is also fully housebroken. If you are ready to lose your heart to Lola, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Lola is waiting to hear from you!

Peanut Butter(Adopted, June 2008)

Peanut Butter Cookie is a 10-12 month old Cocker Spaniel weighing just 13 pounds who was found as a stray and brought to the Manhattan shelter. While he is currently underweight, he will always be a tiny peanut of a Cocker, especially for a male. Peanut Butter Cookie is a parti-colored Cocker (chocolate and white) with the most beautiful markings and a very handsome face. While he is still somewhat timid and scared, once he receives some much-needed TLC, he should regain his confidence and trust in the world. Peanut Butter Cookie has been neutered, micrcohipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer our little Peanut a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Peanut will be checking his inbox daily!

Bear (Adopted, June 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO VICKI (FORMER FOSTER MOM TO COLBY) FOR OFFERING BEAR A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN THE EAST VILLAGE!

Bear is a stunningly handsome 1-2 year old chocolate Cocker Spaniel with an incredibly thick and gorgeous coat. Despite having been through a bit of a hard time, Bear remains more teddy than grizzly. Upon being surrendered to the Manhattan shelter by his family, Bear became so stressed and upset that he was not offered for adoption to the public. We were only too happy to take him into rescue and to give him the opportunity to settle down in safe surroundings. While still a little shy with strangers, Bear has proven to be a very loving dog with a great nature. Given the way that he jumps into his foster mom's arms, he would probably make a great candidate for agility training, too! Bear has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will shortly be treated to a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Bear a cozy den and honey pot to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bear will be checking his inbox daily!

Brandy(Adopted, May 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO SUSAN AND JAMES OF STAMFORD, CT. FOR OFFERING BRANDY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH BRANDY IS SHARING WITH HER FOSTER FAMILY'S BEAUTIFUL COCKER SPANIEL, BELLA.

Brandy is a beautiful cream color 6 year old female Cocker Spaniel that came to us from the Brooklyn shelter as an owner surrender due to personal problems. We imagine it must have been extremely hard to let her go; Brandy will take your breath away, she is just so unbelievably sweet . Her heart is overflowing with love and she is more than willing to share it with everyone she meets. She has an Angelic spirit; pure and innocent. Brandy is so gentle and kind that we believe she can be placed with an infant. She loves to lounge on the couch or a better place would be a lap. Yes, Brandy is a lap dog! She loves to play, go for walks, but most of all Brandy loves to be a Velcro companion. Brandy gets along well with other dogs and is currently fostering with another female Cocker Spaniel; her new friend Bella. She would be fine with cats too. She is a no issue girl. Her foster mom and dad are just so pleased to have her and have only reported wonderful things about her. Brandy has been Vet checked, vaccinated, spayed, HW neg and micro chipped. and she will be groomed prior to Adoption. She recently had two cherry eyes repaired and a dental by her former owner. Brandy will go home with a new matching Lupine leash and collar.

Brandy is like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. Email us if you need some sunshine in your life, Brandy is waiting to hear from you.

Petite Princess (Adopted, May 2008)

Petite Princesse is a 10 month old buff female Cocker Spaniel who was surrendered to us just before the holiday weekend. What a sad surprise for poor Petite Princesse, who was looking forward to her first Memorial Day barbecue with family and friends. We have assured poor Petite Princesse that she need not worry. A little Cocker as adorable as this one who is good with kids and other dogs is sure to find her forever home soon ... with any luck, just in time to enjoy a holiday burger or hotdog around the grill. Petite Princesse has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer this Petite Princess a memorable Memorial Day weekend and a fairy tale ending fit for a queen, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Petite Princesse will be checking her inbox daily!

Luke (Adopted, May 2008)

Luke is a handsome 1-2 year old golden red Cocker Spaniel with a winning personality who came to us from Brooklyn Animal Care and Control. He is an active boy who would love to spend his weekends hiking in the woods with his favorite person or just going for long walks around his neighborhood. While he is a larger size Cocker with an imposing presence, Luke is gentle enough to be trusted with small children ... we have seen no evidence of aggression whatsoever. Luke will make a wonderful family pet! It is hard to believe that a dog with such a magical spirit would ever have ended up a stray. Luke has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Luke would love to find his forever home this Memorial Day weekend ... he is all dressed up in his favorite bandana just to emphasize what a loyal and patriotic boy he is. Luke will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to meet Luke, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Luke is waiting to hear from you and will be checking his inbox daily!

Chloe (Adopted, May 2008)

Chloe is a very pretty 1 year old female Cocker Spaniel who has just arrived from the Staten Island shelter. We decided to call her Chloe after the sophisticated french perfume by the same name. Chloe is a tall, elegant Cocker with a very confident manner who, with her striking coloring, looks ready to attend a black and white ball. She is a very Audrey Hepburn kind of girl. While we are still getting to know Chloe, we believe that she would do best in an adult only home with prior Cocker Spaniel experience. Chloe has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Chloe will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar (possibly with her very own strand of pearls). If you would like to adopt Chloe, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Chloe will happily meet you for breakfast at Tiffany's ... just remember to bring the biscuits.

Tricky (Adopted, May 2008)

BIO: Tricky is a very handsome black Cocker/Retriever mix (possibly lab) with a hint of white on his chest. This adorable boy has a fabulous temperament and is very loving and playful. In typical Retriever fashion, he loves to play fetch and is quite the athlete. Tricky is is somewhat taller than a Cocker Spaniel, but otherwise has a Spaniel type build. He bonds very strongly with those he loves, always wanting to be near them. He loves to be petted and does not mind being lifted (especially to receive a hug!) Tricky has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Tricky a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Nothing could be less tricky!

Ninja (Adopted, May 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO DOUG AND BILL OF UPSTATE NY FOR OFFERING NINJA AND HIS NEW FOSTER BROTHER BUDDY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME ON THEIR SNOWY HILLTOP IN THE COUNTRY!

Ninja is a handsome 3 year old purebred black Cocker Spaniel. Ninja was a stray who went unclaimed. We can't imagine why ... he's a very friendly boy whose little tail is always on the move, just like a propeller. He gets along with other dogs and should also be fine with cats. We believe him to be somewhat vision impaired, as he can be somewhat disoriented in new surroundings. Once he gets to know his environment, he gets around just fine. He also appears to have partial paralysis on one side of his face (our vet believes that it was due to a severe ear infection, which has now fully cleared). Ninja has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Ninja has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Ninja a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Ninja will be checking his inbox daily!

Baylie (Adopted, May 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO MEREDITH OF MOSCOW, PA FOR OFFERING BAYLIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN THE POCONO MOUNTAINS. BAYLIE IS ONLY TOO HAPPY TO HAVE LEFT ROUGH URBAN LIFE BEHIND HIM.

UPDATE: Baylie is doing wonderfully well. After just a few short days in an environment where he has been spoiled with kindness and affection, Baylie has largely come out of his shell. He now jumps up to greet us enthusiastically and his little tail is wagging non-stop. Baylie has become fast friends with another much more confident red Cocker Spaniel named Sammy, who seems to be having a very therapeutic effect upon him. Baylie is now running with the other dogs and engaging in games with the rest of the gang. He is definitely ready for adoption.

Baylie is a handsome red male Cocker Spaniel just 18 months old. Baylie was an owner surrender to the Manhattan shelter, an environment to which he reacted with such fright and terror that he was immediately released to rescue. We believe Baylie to have been badly mistreated in his last home. Even more telling than the heavily matted, urine-soaked coat with which he came in is how fearful Baylie becomes when people approach. He cowers and looks at them with wide, terrified eyes, clearing trying to assess whether or not he will be hurt, all signs that he has been regularly beaten. But when allowed the time to sniff a person out, Baylie is able to relax and becomes receptive to handling, even nudging one's hand to ask for more affection. With those he has begun to trust, he will even seek out their lap and curl himself into a tiny ball. While Baylie will obviously need a calm and quiet home in which to recover from his traumas, he is far from a lost cause. Having been down this road with many dogs before, we are confident that Baylie will overcome the neglect and abuse of his past. He just needs a chance to be loved. Baylie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar.

We have named this sweet little dog Baylie in honor of Bailey, our founder's beloved Cocker Spaniel who passed away just two hours before Baylie came into rescue. Bailey was the original "Abandoned Angel" and an integral part of our rescue's history. He was found by his mom 6 years ago running along the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, having evidently been tossed out of a car. He was so overgrown and matted that his breed was difficult for her to establish. Underneath it all, our founder discovered a beautiful buff Cocker Spaniel with a heart of gold. While initially very sick, with his mom's love and care, Bailey first recovered and then flourished. For the next 6 years, he and his mom became inseparable companions and soon shared the common mission of Cocker Spaniel rescue. Bailey was a deeply sensitive soul who had the uncanny ability to identify and comfort not only people in need but also dogs in need. With his reassuring presence, he became the official "meeter and greeter" of rescued Cocker Spaniels upon their arrival from area shelters. How we will manage without him in our rescue and our lives we simply do not know. While Bailey can never be replaced, we will continue to see a little part of his spirit in every Cocker Spaniel who passes through our doors in need of a second chance. We will forever love you, Bailey, and will remember you always. Rest in peace, precious friend.

Mitzie (Adopted, May 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO MINDY AND FAMILY OF SAUGERTIES, NY FOR OFFERING MITZIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!! MITZIE IS ENJOYING LIFE WITH SEVERAL GOLDEN RETRIEVERS AND TWO SPECIAL NEEDS COCKER SPANIELS, HONEY (FKA "DANNY GIRL") AND TINKERBELL (FKA "GYPSY") WHO WERE BOTH ADOPTED FROM ABANDONED ANGELS. ABANDONED ANGELS IS VERY GRATEFUL TO MINDY FOR HER VERY SPECIAL BRAND OF TLC!

BIO: Mitzie (aka "Monster Mitts") is an 8-9 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel with a very tragic story. She was adopted from Manhattan Animal Care and Control as a healthy youngster but returned years later in filthy, matted condition when her family decided they had "no time" for her. In the interim, they allowed this once spritely dog to become severely overweight and, when she developed cataracts, left them untreated, with the result that Mitzie went completely blind. Poor Mitzie's eyes now ressemble two glassy white marbles. Lost and confused in unfamiliar territory, she will walk into walls or anything else that may be in her path. We wonder how anyone could have been so heartless as to abandon a blind dog at a kill shelter. The smells and sounds that she encountered in her pitch black prison must have been extremely frightening to her. Despite it all, Mitzie is an EXTREMELY SWEET AND GENTLE dog. She loves to be caressed and will lick one's fingers with gratitude for the smallest expression of kindness. We are now addressing all of Mitzie's medical needs with the goal of preparing her for adoption to a very special home. While the shelter sent her to us spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested, and up-to-date with all shots, our vet has run full bloodwork and urinalysis to better assess the state of her overall health. The tests actually show her to be in good shape, except for the presence of bladder stones, as confirmed by an xray. Mitzie has now had surgery to have the stones removed and came through it like a champ! Although she will need to be on a prescription dog food for life to ensure that the stones do not recur, what a small price to pay for keeping sweet Mitzie healthy and pain free! At the time of surgery, Mitzie also had a much needed dental, as her teeth have obviously never been cleaned. If you have an interest in providing Mitzie with an adoptive home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Experience with blind dogs is preferred, but not essential. While she may never see you with her eyes, your love will cast all the light that Mitzie needs to continue on her path towards a better life.

Gem (Adopted, May 2008)

Hello, my name is Gem. I am a handsome 3-4 year old buff and white Cocker Spaniel and my name speaks for itself! I am a super friendly, happy-go-lucky boy who will make an excellent family pet. I am great with kids and get along well with other dogs. I came from a family with children but was surrendered shortly before Mother's Day. Did someone mistakenly think I was ready to leave the nest? They sure got it wrong. After all, I'm still a canine kid (and always will be). I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. What could be a better gift on Mother's Day than the gift of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE? Mom doesn't need jewels, she needs a Gem like me. If you would like to offer me the forever home I so deserve, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'd love to be home in time for Sunday brunch with my Mom! Love and licks till then, Gem XXOO

Gentle Grace (Adopted, May 2008)

Gentle Grace ("Gracie") is a beautiful, sweet-natured 2-3 year old Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan shelter as an owner surrender. At the time of intake, she was literally shaking from head to toe, crying with fear, and seeking in vain to hide behind her owner. We can only imagine the thoughts that raced through poor Gracie's mind as she confronted the noise and bedlam of a city kill shelter. Sadly, while there, Gracie came down with both an upper respiratory infection and a stomach flu. By the time she came into rescue, she was quite a sick girl. We have since attended to all of Gracie's medical needs, as well as to her emotional wounds. Gracie has now recovered physically and is well on her way to recovering emotionally. Despite her recent traumas, Gracie remains very gentle with people (although may need a few minutes to sniff them out) and is excellent with other pets, both dogs and cats. She enjoys going for walks and has excellent leash manners. Gracie is very well-behaved during crate time and loves to cuddle on her bed (a vast improvement from the hard steel floor of her shelter kennel). Gracie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer sweet Gracie a future that is gentler than her recent past, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Gracie will be checking her email inbox daily.

Jack-in-the- Box (Adopted, May 2008)

Hello, my name is Jack-in-the-Box. I am a handsome 10-12 month old scruffy faced Norwich Terrier/Shih Tzu cross who was rescued from the Manhattan Shelter on the evening before I was due to be euthanized for space (of all things!) Imagine how you would feel if someone decided there was no room in the world for you ... my feelings were very hurt! If you are wondering how I came to find myself in Cocker Rescue, well ... when life is at stake, sometimes a Jack-in-the-Box has to think outside the box. That is why Abandoned Angels has a special category called the "Honorary Cocker Spaniel" for dogs like me. As you can see, I am SIMPLY ADORABLE and have a very spunky personality. I am HYPOALLERGENIC, neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I will shortly be treated to a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. Needless to say, things are really looking up! So are you ready to think outside the box and seal the deal? If so, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my inbox daily! Lots of love till then, Jack.

Roxy (Adopted, May 2008)

Roxanne is a beautiful burnish red female Cocker Spaniel. This stunning 3 to 4 year old dark eyed girl is as sweet as she is beautiful. Roxy for short was initially found as a stray and brought to a local shelter. When her stray hold was up, Roxy was given to rescue. Roxy arrived with her stubby tail spinning like a propeller and it has not yet stopped. She is as happy as could be. Roxy knows she is safe now and continuously shows her gratitude by showering us with kisses. Roxy is a total love muffin. She is extremely affectionate. She loves everyone she meets including other dogs. Roxy exudes all the BEST characteristics of the breed, she is a tail wagging, friendly, loyal, loving velcro girl. One word that describe Roxy best is AWESOME! IShe would definitely complete your family and bring you years of happiness. Roxy is vaccinated, spayed, HW negative and microchipped. She will also be professionally groomed and go home with a new matching Lupine collar and leash set. If you are interested in providing Roxy with her forever home, send us an email, Roxy is eagarly waiting to hear from you!

Rocket (Adopted, May 2008)

Rocket is an adorable 5 month old red English Cocker Spaniel puppy with white markings. This sweet boy was found as a stray and brought to a local shelter. When no one claimed him, he was given to rescue. Rocket is everything you would want in a puppy, He is extremely affectionate and loving. On his way home from the shelter he sat in my lap, giving me kisses and even puppy hugs. He would rest his head on my shoulder and gaze up at me with his big brown soulful puppy eyes and of course I instantly fell in love! Rocket is very energetic and playful. He loves to run or should I say fly across the room with a squeaky toy in his mouth shaking it. He will allow you to take it from him only to throw it to him over and over again. This guy has plenty of puppy fuel! Rocket is crate trained but will require further training in housebreaking. He would benefit from obedience training, He does come when he is called and is starting to learn other basic commands such as sit, give paw etc. Rocket is a quick learner as he is very eager to please. Since Rocket still has his sharp baby teeth and he is a bit mouthy, we believe he would do best in a home with older children. Rocket is vaccinated, neutered, HW negative and microchipped. If you are ready to make a commitment to Rocket, please contact us. Rocket is ready to soar right into your heart and home.

Colby(Adopted, May 2008)

MANY THANKS TO VICKY FOR OFFERING COLBY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN THE ALPHABET CITY SECTION OF MANHATTAN!

It is raining black Cocker Spaniels at Abandoned Angels. We now have 7 black males and one black female available for adoption. The latest to join our group is Colby, a 7 year old owner surrender who came to us through a concerned neighbor. Colby was an inside dog for the first few years of his life, but then something went wrong. One day Colby was tied out on a chain and never allowed back in the house again. The neighbor finally grew so tired of seeing poor Colby chained up year after year, that she persuaded his owners to release him to rescue. Although he received very little veterinary care during his life, Colby came to us in surprisingly good health. While much too skinny, he has tested heartworm negative and bounced back quickly soon after his neuter. Colby is up-to-date on all shots and has also been microchipped. He has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. We have promised Colby that he will be an inside dog from now on, which Colby thinks is a perfect idea! If you would like to offer Colby a home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Max (Adopted, April 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO MARSHA OF PRINCETON, NJ FOR OFFERING MAX A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME WHILE HE AWAITS HIS FOREVER FAMILY!

Maxwell Smart is an 6 year old black Cocker Spaniel who is ready to show you his comedy routine. He will keep you laughing for hours as he juggles his huge collection of tennis balls. He loves them all equally, so he does not know which way to run first! Each leg wants to head in a different direction. However, Max is ready to share the loot and will readily release whatever he's holding, whether it's food or a favorite toy. Max is tireless when it comes to fetch, so if you're looking for a buddy to join you in the park, Max is definitely your guy! Max recently came to us from Animal Care and Control in Manhattan. Having been adopted from ACC two years ago, he was returned because his parents were expecting a new baby. Max is Smart enough not to grieve the loss of his last home too much, as he was cared for poorly there. He arrived back at ACC a matted mess and with nails the length of claws that were beginning to curl over into his toes, as well as with ear infections. Hopefully his former folks plan to take care of their human baby a whole lot better (shame on them). Max is definitely their loss, as he'll make a WONDERFUL pet for a family with kids. He's very loving and affectionate and quite a gentle soul. Max is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. Due to severe matting, he's been shaved down, but he will be a beautiful, full-coated Cocker once his handsome locks grow back in. If you would like to offer Max and his tennis balls the home they so deserve, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Adopting Max is among the Smartest Moves anyone could make.

Merlin (Adopted, April 2008)

Bonnie Lass (Adopted, April 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO MEREDITH OF MANHATTAN (ADOPTIVE MOM TO FORMER ABANDONED ANGEL "TUFFY") FOR OFFERING BONNY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN THE BIG APPLE!

Bonny Lass is a beautiful sable Cockapoo just 5 years old who came into rescue as an owner surrender due to her mom's deterioriating health. She is a larger size Cockapoo weighing about 35 pounds. Bonny has the most beautiful coloring - different shades of deep blonde and mocha - which is not commonly seen. Bonny was purchased from a breeder as a puppy. She is a rather shy dog who is somewhat insecure. Bonny always want to be near her person, whether cuddling on the sofa in front of the TV or curled up against their feet at night. We are inclined to think that she would do best in an adult only home, as the activity level of rambunctious children would likely be overwhelming for her. We believe that she could benefit from living with a confident, calm and well-adjusted dog or with an experienced dog owner who could provide her with some much-needed reassurance. Bonny has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer this Bonny Lass a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

"My bonny lass she smileth, when she my heart beguileth ..." (Thomas Morley, 1595).

Rum Raisin (Adopted, April 2008)

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO JACQULINE OF CONEY ISLAND FOR OFFERING RUM RAISIN A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME BY THE SEA!

Rum Raisin needs a FOSTER HOME or, better still, an adoptive home to call her own. Rum Raisin is a 10 year old black and tan female Cocker Spaniel who came into the Brooklyn shelter as a stray. When she went unclaimed, Rum Raisin was released to rescue. Rum Raisin is a very friendly girl with an EXCELLENT DISPOSITION, so much so that she could be trusted with even the smallest of children. Rum Raisin is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will go home professionally groomed and with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Rum Raisin a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Audi (Adopted, April 08)

Audi is a handsome 14 month chocolate brown Cocker Spaniel whose life sputtered and stalled when his family brought him to the Brooklyn shelter for euthanasia. The reason? Poor Audi had developed a cherry eye. While the shelter refused to put him down, Audi became so frightened there that he could not be placed in the adoption ward. As a result, he was released to rescue. Audi's cherry eye has now been repaired and his spirits have also regained their zoom. With his gorgeous coat and spunky manner, Audi is ready to strut his stuff at the autoshow! Audi has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed prior to adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to drive off into the sunset with our Audi, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Audi is ready to burn rubber and head for home!

Princess Leah (Adopted, April 08)

Princess Leah is a very pretty 3 year old buff Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan shelter as an owner surrender. She received a "No Concern" evaluation on her temperament test, as she is happy to demonstrate with her constantly wagging tail. She should make an excellent family pet! Princess Leah is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will shortly be treated to a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are looking to treat a pet like a Princess, this little sweetie will make the perfect candidate. To adopt Princess Leah, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. We will then be in touch to arrange a royal audience with this inter-galactic Princess.

TJ Maxx (Adopted, March 2008)

Get the max for the minimum with TJ Maxx! This adorable 4-5 year old male Yorkie weighing under 5 pounds came to us as an owner surrender when his family lost interest in him. We can't imagine why little Maxx did not hold their attention. What he lacks in size he makes up for in personality. In fact, we can't keep our paws off him ... he is just the sweetest boy ever. Thankfully, Maxx is tiny enough to go just about everywhere, which is certainly a good thing ... you'll never want to leave him at home. Maxx has been neutered, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Maxx has just enjoyed a dental as well as a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are looking for maximum love in a pint-sized package, then look no further ... to adopt Maxx, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Cadbury (Adopted, March 2008)

Cadbury (aka "Caddie") is a handsome 1-2 year old male Boykin Spaniel. With his handsome chocolate coat and splash of white on his chest, Caddie looks to be a purebred Boykin, but could possibly have some Springer or a similar breed in his line. Caddie is a wonderfully friendly dog who loves the company of people. He has a beautiful spirit and should make an excellent family pet. Caddie was found standing by the side of the road in a rural area, perhaps having been dumped out of a car. When his owners could not be located, his finder contacted rescue. Caddie is a very healthy boy who is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and heartworm negative. Caddie has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Cadbury a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Caddie is waiting to hear from you!

Genie (Adopted, March 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE NYITRAY FAMILY OF THE POCONOS FOR OFFERING GENIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN RURAL PA!!

If Genie is looking wide-eyed and incredulous these days, then it's with good reason. Things recently have not been quite what she bargained for. Sweet Genie clearly had a home once, but somehow ended up a stray. When her owners could not be located despite diligent efforts, Genie came into rescue. While initially rather overwhelmed, Genie has settled down nicely. She has dried her tears, blown her nose, and is ready to move on. Genie is estimated to be around 7 years old and is in good health. While she could stand to lose a pound or two, in her place, who would not engage in a little comfort eating? We believe that Genie would do well in a quiet, stable, adult only household or perhaps in a family with slightly older, dog-experienced kids. Genie is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Genie an adoptive home (or a foster home while she is waiting), please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application ... Genie will be checking her inbox daily!

Shawna (Adopted, March 08)

UPDATE: SHAWNA HAS BROKEN OUT OF HER SHELL AND IS NOW AS HAPPY AS CAN BE, EVEN GIVING KISSES.

Shawna is a 5-6 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who came to us from the Brooklyn shelter. She was a stray who went unclaimed. Shawna is a rather shy dog who will need time to come out of her shell and feel secure. She is only just beginning to wag her tail and feel confident enough to explore her surroundings. We believe that Shawna would do best in a quiet adult only home with a fair amount of dog experience, preferably with Cocker Spaniels. Shawna has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Shawna a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Shawna is waiting to hear from you.

Carson (Adopted, March 2008)

Carson is a beautiful 1 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who was found as a stray. Carson is in good health, has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Carson a home in time for Valentine's Day, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Carson wants to fall in love ... how about you?

Kody (Adopted, March 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO BEVERLY OF STROUDSBURG, PA, FOR OFFERING KODY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN THE POCONO MOUNTAINS, WHICH KODY IS SHARING WITH HER OWN PACK OF HAPPY PUPS.

Kody is a handsome 3 year old parti-colored (buff and white) Cocker Spaniel with a super sweet temperament. He is a very cuddly boy whose little tail is always on the go. Kody should make a good family pet in a home with slightly older kids. He gets along well with other dogs, so could easily join a multi-pet household. Kody has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Kody a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Kody is waiting to hear from you!

Flannery (Adopted, February 2008)

Flannery is an adorable 8 month old buff female Cocker Spaniel puppy with an excellent temperament. Flannery will make an excellent family pet ... her little tail is always on the go! Flannery came into the Manhattan shelter as a stray. When she went unclaimed at the end of her stray period, Flannery was released to rescue. Flannery has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Flannery a home for Valentine's Day, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Flannery is ready to be your new significant other!

Princess (Adopted, February 2008)

Princess is a very pretty 4 year old buff and white female Cocker Spaniel who came to us as an owner surrender. She was advertised as "free to a good home" on craigslist about a year ago, which is never a good idea. Her family was in the habit of purchasing a female puppy from a petstore, breeding her, selling her pups, and then giving the dog away. They had done so three times previously, so Princess was just their latest disposable pet. Princess ended up with someone who soon realized that she did not have the necessary time or resources to care for her, but cared enough to surrender her to rescue. Princess has now been spayed, microchipped, tested for heartworm, and received all of her shots. We have also treated her to a dental and provided her with treatment for a skin infection. She now feels like royalty! Princess is a very gentle girl who gets along well with other dogs and should also be fine with cats. She loves people and is docile enough to be trusted with young children. If you would like to offer Princess a place in your palace, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Princess will be checking her inbox daily.

Max-a-Million (Adopted, February 2007)

Max-a-Million is one in a million ... super cute, super sweet, and hypoallergenic to boot! This adorable 4 year old toy poodle spent the whole of his life with one family and then was inexplicably dumped at the Manhattan shelter. We saw little Max sitting forlornly in his cage when we came to pick up a Cocker. He had been surrendered just a few hours before and was looking very bewildered. We immediately arranged for Max to be sprung. Max has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to meet Max-a-Million, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Adopt him today and hit the jackpot!

Megan(Adopted, February 2007)

Megan Valentine is a pretty, petite female Cocker Spaniel roughly 8 years old. She is looking for a FOSTER HOME or, better still, an adoptive home where she can grow old gracefully. Right now she is still full of spunk! Meggie found herself dumped at Animal Care and Control on Staten Island with her baby brother several months ago. Her family claimed to be moving and that their pets could not come along. Meggie's handsome little brother was quickly adopted, but as an older dog, Meggie found herself waiting in the wings. We marvel that anyone could have passed her by (let alone left her at a kill shelter), as this little cupid is SIMPLY A PLEASURE. Meggie has an A+ temperament, so much so that we would feel comfortable placing her in a home with toddlers. Meggie is very affectionate and extremely well behaved. As she loves to kiss and cuddle, she is the PERFECT VALENTINE! Meggie is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just had a dental, as well as full bloodwork, which showed her to be a very healthy girl. So don't be shy ... it's time to profess your love! If you would like to offer Megan Valentine a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Meggie will be checking her inbox daily!

Kimmy (Adopted, February 2007)

Kimmy is an adorable 8 pound Toy Poodle. This little princess is just 5 years old. Kimmy found herself surrendered to the Manhattan Shelter when her owner encountered "personal prolems." Kimmy was surrendered with a severe orthopedic injury to a rear leg, so had a few "personal problems" of her own to contend with. Despite our best efforts, the leg could not be saved and we recently made the heartbreaking decision to amputate it. Kimmy is not remotely hampered by the absence of the leg. She races around like a centipede and is happy as can be. All she wants to do is kiss and wiggle! Kimmy is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Kimmy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Kimmy is waiting to hear from you!

Porsche (Adopted, February 2007)

Porsche is a beautiful 2 year old female Cocker Spaniel who recently came to us as an owner surrender. While predominantly chocolate and white, you can see the hint of tan over her eyebrows, which actually makes her a tri-color. Porsche is a very friendly, very loving dog who is eager to bond with a new family. She has an excellent disposition, both with people and with other animals. Porsche is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date with all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will shortly be treated to a professional grooming, following which we will post a photo of a newly pampered Porsche. Porsche recently told Cupid that she is in the market for a new love. If you would like to offer Porsche a place called home for Valentine's Day, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Muffy (Adopted, February 2007)

Muffy is a very darling 6 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel with a very full and curly coat (she was recently shaved down due to severe matting). Dogs like Muffy are the reason why we rescue. She is a very heartbreaking neglect case who came to us from Manhattan Animal Care and Control, where she had been surrendered by someone we can only call a monster. This adorable, ultra-sweet girl came to us in horrific condition, with badly infected ears and eyes, claw-like nails embedded in her paw pads, and feet so badly matted that she might as well have been walking on rocks. How she managed to walk at all we will never know. Every step must have been sheer torture for her. Muffy has obviously been bred many times and her last litter seems to have been born quite recently (the whereabouts of the pups are unknown). As she was evidently a money-making proposition for them, one would think that Muffy would have received at least a little care, but monsters are rarely logical. One can only hope that none of her offspring are being used to replace her. Muffy is fully housebroken and loves to nest in her crate. She is gentle with people as well as with other pets (both dogs and cats) and enjoys climbing in one's lap for hugs and cuddles. She will make a wonderful family pet. Muffy has been microchpped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will shortly be spayed, will have two cherry eyes corrected, and will also be receiving a dental. She has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. Muffy is looking forward to a cozy life in a household where there are no monsters in the closet or under the bed. If you can offer this little angel all the rewards that she so deserves after enduring a nightmare of misery and neglect, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Muffy has been waiting her entire life to hear from you.

Cocker Kitty (Adopted, January 2008)

Calling all Cocker Lovers who are looking for a Cocker friendly kitty ... you have definitely found her! Cocker Kitty is a young adult cat (she has just left kittenhood behind her). Cocker Kitty was a stray who was found by some passersby and abandoned at a vet clinic where we treat many of our rescued Cocker Spaniels. When we realized what an amazing cat she is, we of course we undertook to find her a home. Cocker Kitty LOVES dogs, especially all of the Cocker Spaniels she has met. She would be a great addition to a Cocker Spaniel household. Cocker Kitty is also EXTREMELY AFFECTIONATE with people. She purrs with delight whenever offered the slightest bit of attention. Cocker Kitty has tested negative for Feline AIDS/Leukemia, is up-to-date on all shots, and has been spayed. She is all ready to go to her forever home, preferably one with a Cocker Spaniel or two for company. If you would like to adopt Cocker Kitty, please contact us to discuss her further.

Tuffy (Adopted, January 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO MEREDITH OF MANHATTAN FOR OFFERING TUFFY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Tuffy is a handsome 4 year old buff and white Cocker Spaniel who was found as a terrified stray in the street. He was literally shaking from head to toe. The good samaritan who found him gave him the tongue-in-cheek name of "Tuffy", since he is anything but! When Tuffy's owners could not be located, Tuffy came into Rescue. Tuffy is in good health and looks to have been well taken care of during his life, so how he came to lose his home we will never know. Tuffy loves people and gets along well with other dogs. We believe would do fine with kids. Tuffy has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Tuffy a home for the holidays, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Tuffy could really use a Softie to make his life complete.

Jetson (Adopted, January 2008)

A BIG THANK YOU TO DIANE OF CANDOR, NY (JETSON'S FINDER) FOR OFFERING JETSON A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME WHILE HE AWAITS HIS FOREVER FAMILY.

Jetson is a handsome parti-colored male Cocker Spaniel believed to be about 2 years old. Jetzie was found as a stray in Candor, NY. Jetzie's finder posted signs in the area and also reported him to Animal Control but, amazingly enough, no one came looking for this adorable little guy. Jetzie is a very friendly boy who loves to play with toys and enjoys the company of both people and other pets. As he has shown no aggression in his foster home, he could definitely be placed with kids. Jetzie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Jetzie a home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com ... Jetzie is waiting to hear from you!

Enrique Inglesias (Adopted, January 2008)

Enrique is a typical Latin Lover ... he is ready to set your heart on fire! Enrique is a 10-12 month old buff Cocker Spaniel puppy who was surrendered to Manhattan Animal Care and Control due to landlord issues. He is extremely outgoing and simply LOVES people. His little propeller of a tail is always on the go, so much so that we almost worry that he will start to fly the friendly skies. Enrique has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you have been looking for a Latin Lover with whom to share this Valentine's Day, then please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Enrique is ready to sing you a love song.

Cassandra (Adopted, January 2008)

Cassandra is a very beautiful chocolate Cocker Spaniel just 2 years old. Cassie was adopted by a Westchester family through the classifieds but the other dog in the home has not taken to her. As a result, she is being surrendered to rescue. Cassie is a very loving dog with looks and charm galore. She loves people and gets along well with other pets (she's disappointed that her current canine sibling could not reciprocate). Cassie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She does need a little help with housebreaking, but should respond well to crate-training and a regular schedule. If you would like to offer Cassie a home for the holidays, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Cassie will be checking her inbox daily.
