    After Surgery

SAD UPDATE: IT IS WITH GREAT SORROW THAT WE RELAY THE NEWS OF SWEET GIZMO'S PASSING. A TUMOR REMOVED FROM HIS EAR PROVED TO BE MALIGNANT AND THE CANCER SPREAD RAPIDLY. WHEN HE BEGAN TO SUFFER, GIZMO WAS HUMANELY PUT TO SLEEP IN THE LOVING ARMS OF HIS FOSTER FAMILY. WE ARE HEARTBROKEN BUT EXPRESS OUR SINCERE THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO STEPPED UP TO PROVIDE THIS SWEET ANGEL WITH THE CARE HE SO DESERVED. WHILE HIS TIME ON EARTH WAS HARD, THANKS TO ALL OF YOU, GIZMO ENDED HIS LIFE KNOWING THE JOYS AND COMFORTS OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. WE EXPRESS SPECIAL APPRECIATION TO GIZMO'S FOSTER FAMILY, JILL AND ABRAHAM OF MALVERNE, NY, WHO PROVIDED GIZMO WITH THE BEST SIX WEEKS A DOG COULD EVER HAVE.

Buckle up, everybody ... it's another neglect case so severe that it rises to the level of cruelty. Humane Law Enforcement has been called in. Meet our beautiful boy, Gizmo, an 8 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel who was surrendered to Animal Care and Control in Manhattan with a raw, bloody tumor in his right ear and the left ear so badly infected it was also bloody and oozing. We all know that a dog's ears do not deteriorate to this extent overnight. Gizmo is the victim of chronic neglect lasting years and years. Given his condition, he was slated for euthanasia … rescue was his only hope.

Having no idea how we would fund his costly care, Abandoned Angels nevertheless stepped up to the plate for Gizmo. There was simply no way that we could turn our backs on a Cocker Spaniel whose suffering was so immense. We sent this lost and desperate soul for emergency treatment to the Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers, NY, where he underwent immediate ablation surgery on his right ear. Although now deaf on that side, Gizmo is no longer in the excruciating pain that he endured with the valor of a gladiator. We hope to be successful in saving the left ear (and his hearing) through intensive antibiotic treatment over the next few weeks. The costs of his care to date, even with a generous rescue discount, exceeds $4,000.00, and is expected to grow.

Despite his ordeal, Gizmo is an unbelievably sweet and gentle dog. He loves to give kisses and adores the company of people and other pets. He is beyond deserving of this second chance!! If you would like to make a donation towards Gizmo's ongoing medical care, please click on the paypal link below.
