Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Soho ~ R.I.P.
INCREDIBLY SAD UPDATE (January 26th, 2012): SOHO WAS rushed to an emergency hospital early this morning exhibiting symptoms that appeared to be a grand mal seizure or possibly a brain tumor. When her symptoms worsened at the hospital, we had to humanely put her to rest.
Soho was one of the five Cocker Spaniels we rescued from a puppy mill in December 2011. She was only three years old, had juvenil...e cataracts and spent her young life in deplorable conditions as a mom raising her puppies. Once she arrived in New York, we gave her a complete makeover including vetting with a new leash on life and LOVE. We are all absolutely devastated and heartbroken that our sweet, precious loving Angel Soho, who we all came to love, has passed on so suddenly. In the short time Soho was with us, she touched many lives. We are especially grateful to her foster family, Wendy and Jeff, for giving Soho a loving home. The only solace we have is knowing that Soho left this earth well cared for and loved.
We will forever love and keep close to our hearts our beloved Soho...
Halle Berry ~ R.I.P.
TEARS FOR HALLE BERRY ... MAY SHE REST IN PEACE. UNBEKNOWNST TO US, SHE WAS A DIABETIC, HER OWNERS HAVING MADE NO MENTION OF THIS AT THE TIME OF HER SURRENDER, COSTING HALLE HER LIFE. WE LOST HER TO COMPLICATIONS FROM DIABETIC SHOCK, THE EFFECTS OF WHICH WERE WORSENED BY THE KENNEL COUGH SHE CONTRACTED WHILE AT THE NYC I SHELTER. WE INCLUDE THE FINAL PHOTO TAKEN OF HALLE AT THE VET'S OFFICE, WHERE SHE STRUGGLED VALIANTLY FOR HER LIFE, BUT ULTIMATELY PROVED TO WEAK TO SURVIVE. SHE WAS AMONG THE BEST NATURED DOGS TO PASS THROUGH OUR RESCUE, A TRULY BEAUTIFUL SOUL BOTH INSIDE AND OUT. ALTHOUGH SHE WAS AN ABANDONED ANGEL FOR ONLY A SHORT TIME, WE ARE DEVASTATED BY HER LOSS AND GRIEVING DEEPLY FOR HER. PLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR SWEET HALLE BERRY. MAY SHE REST IN PEACE.
Angel ~ R.I.P.
SAD, SAD UPDATE ... OUR SWEET ANGEL HAS PASSED AWAY. SHE WAS SIMPLY TOO WEAK AFTER YEARS OF NEGLECT TO RECOVER FROM HER ORDEAL AND DIED QUIETLY IN HER SLEEP WHILE AT OUR VET'S OFFICE. TRAGICALLY, WE WERE NOT IN TIME TO SAVE HER. ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS, ALWAYS OUR ANGEL, MAY YOU ENJOY THE LIFE YOU WERE ALWAYS MEANT TO HAVE AS YOU PASS INTO ETERNITY. RIP FOREVER.
Sara Beth ~ R.I.P.
Sad, Sad News! On July 12, 2011 our beloved sweet and gentle Angel Sarah Beth passed away in her sleep. She was rescued in late May from the Brooklyn Shelter in emaciated condition weighing a mere 13 pounds. She suffered with what our Vet believed at that time to be inflammatory bowel disease or some rare immune disorder. Though Sarah ate ravishingly, she never could gain weight and had chronic intestinal problems. After numerous testing and consults with a gastroenterologist, an exploratory surgery was performed and a biopsy was taken of the lymph nodes by her intestines which revealed Sarah had malignant lymphoma cancer. Sadly, this type of lymphoma did not cause the lymph nodes on her body to be enlarged which is why her symptoms were not correctly identified earlier.
Many people expressed interest in adopting Sarah, and we truly wish we could have given her a home. We hope that she is now healthy and at peace at the Rainbow Bridge, running free with all our other beautiful Angels in the sky.
Sarah, we wish we could have done more for you! You will always remain our little princess, and we will forever love you...
Neptune - R.I.P.
We are deeply saddened to report that on June 29th, our gentle, loving senior boy Neptune crossed over the Rainbow Bridge surrounded by those who loved him dearly. He was rushed to the hospital after exhibiting symptoms of a stroke. When his condition worsened, we couldn't bear to let Neptune suffer any longer, and... with great sadness, we made the heart wrenching decision to put our Angel to rest.
Named after the "God of Water," Neptune was found tied to a tree in the pouring rain but was clearly an "Earthbound Angel," with a profound spirit and unconditional, loving heart. Even though Neptune was nearly blind and just about deaf, one would never know it. He always gazed at you with his soft eyes and always knew where to plant his kisses while wagging his stubby tail.
He touched many hearts that crossed his path. Though his visit with us was short lived, he enriched our lives immensely. He loved to lay on grass with the sun beaming down on him, eat to his heart's content, and bring love, happiness and a sense of warmth and peace to those around him. Neptune, you will always live on in our hearts, we will love you forever...
GLEE - R.I.P.
Sad, sad news! June 8, 2011 - Our beautiful Angel Glee passed away and now runs free at Rainbow Bridge. It was our privilege to know and love this darling girl. Glee came to us in March from the Manhattan shelter where she was picked up as a stray. She was one of the worst cases of neglect that we have ever seen in our rescue's history, with eyes bulging from glaucoma in more pain than one could imagine and a tumor the size of a large eggplant hanging from her chest. She brought tears to our eyes but her gentle nature brought smiles to our faces. Despite all the neglect and suffering that she had experienced, Glee was a lover who fought for her life. Glee was blind, but she had a loving soul and a giving heart. We are extremely saddened and devastated by her unexpected death in her foster home. The only solace we have is that Glee passed away in a loving home and was not alone. She left this world knowing true love. Her story touched many throughout New York and beyond. Although we only had Glee for a short period of time, she made all the difference in our lives and shall not be forgotten. Forever in our hearts with eternal love, you will remain our Beautiful Glee!
MARY - R.I.P.
Sad, sad news, 6/07/11 - Our sweet senior girl named Mary (aka Ginger) lost her battle to Heart Disease. She came to us last year from the Brooklyn shelter where she was brought in as a stray in horrible condition. Despite her past neglect, Mary remained a sweet, loving girl with an incredibly gentle nature. She always had a smiling face to match her extraordinary spirit. We were fortunate to have placed Mary in a loving foster home with Cathy B., a previous adopter of our rescue, where she spent the last six months of her life being adored and cherished. We cannot thank Cathy enough for giving our Angel the best six months of her life. It comforts us all to know that Mary was loved until the end... Forever in our hearts, we will love and miss you...
GABRIEL ~ R.I.P.
4/23/11 - SAD, SAD UPDATE: Our little angel Gabriel was put to sleep yesterday when he took a sudden turn for the worse while in foster care and had difficulty breathing. We had hoped to give him a month or two in a loving home, but his time there was cut short. Sadly, poor little Gabriel had just one week in the care of his wonderful foster parents. He left this life surrounded by people who loved him, despite having had very little opportunity to get to know him. We did not know the life history of this poor little stray but we knew the essentials: that he had a brave spirit and a heart of gold. We will miss our little angel but know that we will meet again. Rest in peace, special friend. We will always love you!
MOO-MOO ~ R.I.P.
TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL ~ "MOO-MOO" R.I.P.
Rescued 6/19/06 to 3/15/11
3/15/11 - SAD, SAD DAY FOR US AT ABANDONED ANGELS. WE HAVE LOST OUR BELOVED "MOO MOO" A SENIOR BLACK AND WHITE COCKER SPANIEL WHO REMAINED WITH US IN RESCUE FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS. SADLY, HE WAS SIMPLY TOO "DAMAGED" BY CRUELTY EVER TO BE PLACED, BUT WAS DEEPLY LOVED BY ALL OF US AND HAD A LOVING HOME WITH DOLORES, WHERE HE ENJOYED PLAYING WITH HIS TOYS AND, FROM TIME TO TIME, HOWLING AT THE CEILING. ONE DAY MOO MOO SIMPLY WOKE UP PARALYZED. WE SENT HIM FOR AN MRI BUT NO CAUSE COULD BE FOUND. WE TREATED HIM WITH STEROIDS IN THE HOPES HE WOULD IMPROVE ... WHEN NOTHING COULD BE DONE, WE MADE THE SAD DECISION TO LET HIM GO. MOO MOO, YOU WERE GRUFF AND TOUGH, BUT BY NO MEANS A BAD BOY. UNDERNEATH IT ALL, YOUR HEART WAS MADE OF GOLD. WE WILL REMEMBER YOU ALWAYS AND LOVE YOU FOREVER. XXOO
R.I.P. ~ Princess P (Emergency Case #18)
SAD, SAD UPDATE: PRINCESS P NOW REIGNS IN HEAVEN, HAVING BEEN PUT TO ETERNAL REST AT THE ANIMAL SPECIALTY IN YONKERS, NY, WHERE SHE HAD BEEN SENT FOR SURGERY TO REPAIR A SHUNT IN HER LIVER. SHE WAS STABLE OVER THE WEEKEND BUT THEN TOOK A TURN FOR THE WORSE. HER SURGEON DEEMED HER UNLIKELY TO SUR...VIVE THE OPERATION THAT WE HOPED WOULD SAVE HER LIFE, SO PRINCESS P WAS HUMANELY PUT DOWN ON 12/13/10. SHE OFFERED KISSES UNTIL HER LAST BREATH, TRULY BREAKING OUR HEARTS. PRINCESS P WILL LIVE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS, A QUEEN AMONG ANGELS. WE WILL REMEMBER HER ALWAYS ... REST IN PEACE, ANGEL GIRL.
R.I.P. ~ Sandi (Emergency Case #17)
SAD, SAD UPDATE: WITH GREAT SADNESS, WE MUST RELAY THAT OUR BELOVED SENIOR BOY SANDI CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE ON 11/29/10. AFTER EXTENSIVE MEDICAL TESTING, OUR VET DETERMINED THAT SANDI WAS SUFFERING FROM ADVANCED LYMPHOMA. UNFORTUNATELY, GIVEN HIS AGE AND WEAK CONDITION, HIS PROSPECTS OF SURVIVING CHEMOTHERAPY AND THE OVERALL PROGNOSIS IN THE LONGER TERM WERE EXTREMELY POOR. DURING THE WEEK HE WAS WITH US, THE CANCER SPREAD RAPIDLY AND SANDI LOST A GREAT DEAL OF WEIGHT. HAVING BEEN ABANDONED ON THE STREETS AT 15 YEARS OF AGE, BLIND AND IN THE FINAL STAGES OF A PAINFUL TERMINAL ILLNESS, WE FELT THAT HE HAD SUFFERED ENOUGH.
WITH THE HELP OF OUR EXTRAORDINARY FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK, WE WERE ABLE TO PULL SANDI FROM MANHATTAN ANIMAL CONTROL ON THANKSGIVING EVE. WE HAD HOPED TO MAKE HIM COMFORTABLE AND TO GIVE HIM SOME QUALITY TIME AT THE TAIL END OF HIS LIFE. SADLY, THE OUTCOME FOR SANDI WAS NOT WHAT WE HOPED. WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE HIM WITH MEDICAL CARE, A WARM BED, TREATS OF ROAST BEEF AND CHICKEN, AND A GREAT DEAL OF LOVE, BUT COULD NOT OFFER HIM THE MONTHS OR YEARS OF PAMPERING THAT HE REALLY DESERVED. THAT SANDI FELT SAFE AND LOVED IN HIS FINAL DAYS IS NEVERTHELESS OF SOME COMFORT. HIS FINAL MOMENTS AS HE PASSED AWAY IN THE LAP OF OUR FOUNDER, WERE BOTH QUIET AND PEACEFUL.
WE ENVISAGE OUR BEAUTIFUL SANDI NOW RUNNING HAPPY, HEALTHY AND FREE IN THE FIELDS SURROUNDING THE RAINBOW BRIDGE WITH ALL OUR OTHER BELOVED RESCUES WHO HAVE PASSED WHILE IN OUR CARE. WE WISH TO THANK ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED TOWARDS HIS CARE FOR GIVING US THE HONOR AND PRIVILEGE OF KNOWING SANDI AND OF CARING FOR HIM IN HIS FINAL DAYS. WE WILL LOVE HIM AND REMEMBER HIM ALWAYS. REST IN PEACE, SWEET SANDI BOY.
Halo ~ R.I.P.
TRAGIC UPDATE: LITTLE HALO WAS TODAY (OCTOBER 4th, 2010) HUMANELY PUT TO SLEEP. HE WAS DISCOVERED TO HAVE A MAMMOTH SIZED SHUNT IN HIS TINY, UNDER-DEVELOPED LIVER AND DEEMED BY MEDICAL EXPERTS TO BE A VERY POOR CANDIDATE FOR WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN EXTREMELY HIGH RISK SURGERY. HIS CONDITION WAS CONSIDERED TERMINAL. OUR HEARTS ARE OF COURSE BROKEN AND THE FACT THAT WE DID ALL WE COULD FOR HIM SEEMS A VERY SMALL COMFORT AT THIS DEVASTATING TIME. LITTLE DID WE KNOW HOW APPROPRIATE HIS NAME WOULD BE FOR HIM. HE WAS INDEED BORN WITH A HALO OVER HIS HEAD AND WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED BY ALL WHO WERE PRIVILEGED TO EXPERIENCE HIS PLAYFUL, GENTLE SPIRIT. REST IN PEACE, LITTLE FRIEND. WE WILL REMEMBER YOU ALWAYS. XXOO.
Blues Clues ~ R.I.P.
SAD UPDATE: TODAY, 8/13/10, WE SAID GOOD-BYE TO OUR DEAR FRIEND BLUES CLUES, A SENIOR COCKER SPANIEL WHO SPENT 8 HAPPY MONTHS IN OUR CARE BEFORE SUCCUMBING TO RENAL FAILURE. LIKE ALL NEGLECTED AND ABANDONED DOGS, HE SHOWED ENORMOUS COURAGE AND FAITH IN THE FUTURE, DESPITE HIS BLEAK PAST. EVER SWEET, FAITHFUL AND TRUE, EVEN IN THE FACE OF FAILING HEALTH, HE WAS A ROLE MODEL BOTH FOR HIS BREED AND FOR ALL LIVING CREATURES. BLUES CLUES WAS A VERY GENTLE SOUL WHO BROUGHT GREAT LIFE WISDOM WITH HIM INTO OUR RESCUE. HE TOUCHED OUR HEARTS DEEPLY AND LEFT ALL OF US BETTER THAN HE FOUND US. HE REPRESENTS THE REASON WHY WE RESCUE. WE WILL NEVER FORGET HIM ... REST IN PEACE, PRECIOUS FRIEND. WE'LL SEE YOU AT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE.
"Those we have held in our arms for a little while we hold in our hearts forever"
Gizmo ~ R.I.P.
SAD UPDATE: IT IS WITH GREAT SORROW THAT WE RELAY THE NEWS OF SWEET GIZMO'S PASSING. A TUMOR REMOVED FROM HIS EAR PROVED TO BE MALIGNANT AND THE CANCER SPREAD RAPIDLY. WHEN HE BEGAN TO SUFFER, GIZMO WAS HUMANELY PUT TO SLEEP IN THE LOVING ARMS OF HIS FOSTER FAMILY. WE ARE HEARTBROKEN BUT EXPRESS OUR SINCERE THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO STEPPED UP TO PROVIDE THIS SWEET ANGEL WITH THE CARE HE SO DESERVED. WHILE HIS TIME ON EARTH WAS HARD, THANKS TO ALL OF YOU, GIZMO ENDED HIS LIFE KNOWING THE JOYS AND COMFORTS OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. WE EXPRESS SPECIAL APPRECIATION TO GIZMO'S FOSTER FAMILY, JILL AND ABRAHAM OF MALVERNE, NY, WHO PROVIDED GIZMO WITH THE BEST SIX WEEKS A DOG COULD EVER HAVE.
Little Max ~ R.I.P.
WE SAID GOODBYE TO OUR PRECIOUS LITTLE MAX ON FEBRUARY 18th, 2010. HE TOUCHED OUR HEARTS WITH HIS AFFECTIONATE PERSONALITY. HE LOVED TO CUDDLE WITH THE ONES HE LOVED. WHETHER IT WAS ON OUR LAPS FOR LONG AND LOVING HOURS, OR SHARING HIS BED WITH A FELLOW RESCUE DOG. WHEN HE LEFT THIS WORLD HE WAS ON HIS FAVORITE LAP, IT WAS A VERY PEACEFUL MOMENT, WHICH COMFORTED OUR SADNESS. ON THE WAY HOME, WE FELT HIS PRESENCE IN THE CLOUDS. WE HAD VISIONS OF HIM WITH HIS WINGS, CUDDLING WITH OTHER BELOVED PETS ON HEAVEN'S RAINBOW BRIDGE. MAY HE REST IN PEACE, OUR LITTLE MAX. WE WILL MISS YOU, AND LOVE YOU ALWAYS.
"There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart." - Ghandi.
Clive ~ R.I.P.
SAD, SAD UPDATE: TODAY, 12/16/09, WE SAID GOOD-BYE TO OUR SWEET OREO COOKIE, CLIVE, WHO HAD BEGUN TO SUFFER THE EFFECTS OF AN AGGRESSIVE FORM OF MOUTH CANCER. DURING HIS BRIEF TIME WITH US, CLIVE WAS SPOILED WITH EVERYTHING HIS LITTLE HEART DESIRED, SAFE IN THE CARE OF OUR RESCUE'S FOUNDER. HE WAS AN EXCEPTIONALLY SWEET-TEMPERED COCKER WHO LOVED PEOPLE AND ENJOYED THE COMPANY OF HIS FELLOW DOGS IN RESCUE. CLIVE ENDED HIS LIFE WITH PEACE, LOVE AND DIGNITY. WE WILL SEE HIM AT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE, WHERE HE WAITS IN THE COMPANY OF OUR MOST PRECIOUS GROUP OF COCKERS ... THOSE ABANDONED ANGELS WHO ENDED THEIR LIVES IN OUR CARE AND THEREFORE CAME TO CALL RESCUE "HOME". REST IN PEACE, ANGEL BOY ... WE MISS YOU AND WILL LOVE YOU ALWAYS.
"A part of you grew in me. And so you see, we will always be together forever and never apart. Maybe in distance, but never in heart"
O'Man aka Def Leppard ~ R.I.P.
SAD UPDATE: IT IS WITH ENORMOUS SORROW THAT WE RELAY THE SAD NEWS THAT DEF LEPPARD HAS PASSED AWAY. ON AUGUST 20, 2008, WE HELPED OUR LITTLE ROCK 'N ROLL BOY CROSS THE RAINBOW BRIDGE. MUCH AS IT BROKE OUR HEARTS, WE PROMISED HIM THAT HE WOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO SUFFER, AND REMAINED TRUE TO OUR WORD. WE IMAGINE THAT DEF LEPPARD WAS GREETED AT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE BY THE OTHER ABANDONED ANGELS DOGS WHO HAVE PASSED AWAY WHILE IN THE CARE OF A VOLUNTEER OR WHILE IN A FOSTER HOME. WHILE THESE DOGS WERE NEVER LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ADOPTED, THEY WERE NEVERTHELESS DEEPLY LOVED BY THOSE WHO KNEW THEM AND ARE GREATLY MISSED BY ALL OF US. OUR LITTLE ROCK STAR, DEF LEPPARD, TOUCHED OUR HEARTS MORE THAN WE CAN SAY. HE WAS A GENTLE, LOVING SOUL WHOSE EYES EXPRESSED ENORMOUS KINDNESS AND A DEEP INNER WISDOM, AS IF HE UNDERSTOOD ALL OF LIFE'S MYSTERIES. WE FEEL PRIVILEGED TO HAVE HAD THIS SPECIAL ANGEL WITH US, EVEN FOR TWO SHORT MONTHS. DEF LEPPARD WAS EVERYTHING ONE COULD HOPE FOR IN A DOG: A LOYAL COMPANION AND A BELOVED FRIEND. WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM WITH GREAT TENDERNESS. REST IN PEACE, BELOVED FRIEND. WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU.
"Gone yet not forgotten although we are apart, you spirit lives within me, forever in my heart."
Biff ~ R.I.P.
Bad news .... we lost Biff this morning (10/5/07). He did not survive heartworm treatment. Regrettably, his heartworm infestation was very severe. He had an embolism. He was actually doing better in the hospital...was off the oxygen, off the IV, eating, drinking and walking. They took him out to the bathroom and when they put him back in his kennel, he collapsed and died before they could even do anything. That's what happens with an embolism ... it is over in a matter of seconds. Biff was much loved and well cared for in his final days. He was in a kennel in the hospital ward which is right in the main room so he could be closely monitored. The girls there really liked him and paid a lot of attention to him. Poor little man...it's days like today that we really hate people who neglect their animals. A simple heartworm preventative once a month and Biff would have been spared all of his suffering. Many thanks to Biff's foster mom Rocky Gates, for everything she did to try to save this guy. He really was a sweet boy and he touched our hearts more than words can say. We are all very saddened that he did not make it.
As an owner of several pieces, I highly recommend them. A beautiful way to remember your pet.
