Her family is relocating this summer and are unable to take Lola with them. Lola Belle has a FABULOUS TEMPERAMENT and is great with both kids and other dogs. She is an extremely sweet-natured girl. Lola Belle is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Lola Belle a new forever home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Lola Belle's face is the kind that is sure to launch a thousand ships (as well as e-mails), so don't delay ... Lola Belle will be checking her inbox daily!

Charlie Brown

A BIG THANK YOU TO EILEEN OF BELLPORT, NY FOR OFFERING CHARLIE BROWN A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Charlie Brown is a handsome purebred Cocker Spaniel just 18 months old. This super boy with a winning personality is just as happy as they come ... his little tail is always on the move! Charlie Brown came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray, an experience that he sailed through in good cheer as if it were just Peanuts. His owners could not be located despite a microchip trace, so Charlie Brown was released to rescue. Charlie Brown gets along well with most other dogs and should make an excellent pet in an experienced Cocker Spaniel home. Charlie Brown has a lot of energy, however, which he needs to expend with DAILY RUNS in a large backyard or jogging alongside an active owner. Without sufficient exercise, Charlie Brown will become frustrated and unhappy. While we have many couch potato candidates in our rescue, Charlie Brown is not one of them! Charlie Brown has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Charlie Brown a place to hang his cap, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Charlie will be checking his inbox daily!

Jolie

A BIG THANK YOU TO YVONNE AND FAMILY OF BLAKESLEE, PA FOR OFFERING JOLIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Jolie is a very petite and extremely adorable purebred Cocker Spaniel just 2 years old who weighs roughly 20 pounds. She is a beautiful parti-colored Cocker (red and white) with a natural tail who was found as a stray and brought to the Brooklyn shelter. Poor Jolie was badly neglected and matted to the skin, but nevertheless was all wags and wiggles. Severe matting is very painful to a dog, so Jolie's experience at our groomer's was quite unpleasant. Nevertheless, Jolie remained her kissy self throughout her ordeal, her long tail always swishing away. Her deep brown eyes (which are framed by the most glamorous long eyelashes) gazed at our groomer with the most incredible trust. She seems to know that we are all on her side. Jolie is a real beauty who is as lovely inside as she is outside. She is a real lap dog who will make a wonderful companion, as all she wants to do is to love and be loved. Jolie is currently being fostered in a home with older kids, where she is doing wonderfully well. While she can be somewhat dominant with other dogs, Jolie does fine with very passive dogs who are content to let her assume the alpha role. Jolie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer this friendly beauty a forever home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels,com and request an application. Jolie is waiting to hear from you!

Bay-Z

Bay-Z is a handsome 4 year old champagne buff male Cocker Spaniel who is 24 pounds of pure love. We decided to name this precious boy after my beloved Cocker Spaniel “Bailey” who passed away January 10th of this year. There was something so special about this scared boy that reminded me of my Bailey instantly.
Bay-Z was picked up as a stray by Animal Control and brought to the Brooklyn Shelter where he remained for about a week overcome with fear, shaking profusely, hoping that some one would claim him. Sadly, no one did. When we first met him, I couldn’t bear to see this gentle soul suffer anymore. Within minutes, we had bailed Bay-Z out and whisked him away in our Rescue Getaway Mobile. As soon as he got into our car, his eyes began to shine and he actually smiled (as evident in the first photo we took of him, which is posted here).

Bay-Z is a gentle and loving soul ... I didn’t need to know him for more than just a few moments to see that, I could immediately feel it; he has a kind spirit that just reaches out to you and touches your heart. Bay-Z is currently at our Vet being treated for an upper respiratory infection, a skin infection that was caused by neglect, and to repair a cherry eye. Bay-Z is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar.

Whether she's a dog lover or not (we're not sure), even Beyonce would fall in love with Bay-Z ... not all of us can marry the American Gangster, but the perfect alternative is the American Cocker! Our Bay-Z is now traveling the road to recovery. Once he is well, he will be searching for a new path, one that will bring him to his FOREVER HOME. Perhaps you can take him there. If you would like to help Bay-Z on his way, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bay-Z will be checking his inbox daily for emails from his fan club!

Lucky Charm

A BIG THANK YOU TO TABATHA AND FAMILY OF THE BRONX FOR OFFERING LUCKY SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Lucky Charm is a 13 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who was abandoned at the Staten Island shelter by the family with whom she had made her home since puppyhood. We can't imagine how anyone could have surrendered such a Charmer at the tail-end of her life, particularly at a kill shelter. While initially quite bewildered by her sudden change in circumstances, Lucky Charm is now all wags and wiggles. She is very friendly with everyone she meets, both people and other animals, and is even good with kids. Lucky Charm is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. While 13 is often reputed to be an unlucky number, where Lucky Charm is concerned, we beg to differ! If you would like to foster or adopt this special older girl, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Lucky Charm will be checking her inbox daily!

Arby

Arby is a handsome black and white Cocker Spaniel just 5 years old. He is a happy-go-lucky boy with a zest for life whose little tail is always wagging. Arby came to us from the Manhattan shelter where he had been surrendered by his owners, who were relocating. Arby is GREAT WITH CATS and has been friendly with the other rescued cockers he has met (although he does not always want to share his toys). Arby has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just gone in for surgery to have a cherry eye corrected, following which he will be all ready to go. Anyone looking for a super companion with a great demeanor could not do better than Arby. If you would like to offer Arby a place called home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Arby is waiting to hear from you!

Lucille Ball (Lucy)

A BIG THANK YOU TO SARIKA OF THE EAST VILLAGE FOR OFFERING LUCY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME IN THIS TRENDY CORNER OF MANHATTAN!

Lucy is an adorable 3 year old reddish buff Cocker Spaniel who was found wandering around the Staten Island Mall, where she was evidently dumped. Like any good-natured comedienne, Lucy decided to take things in stride. She did a little window shopping and tried to find the local Petco. But without identification or her American Express card, Lucy's shopping spree was cut rather short. Eventually she was turned in to Staten Island ACC as a stray and, when she went unclaimed, was released to Rescue. We decided to christen this perky American Cocker after Lucille Ball, a legendary piece of Americana. After all, who doesn't love Lucy?? Our Lucy also adores playing Ball (amazingly, she can throw as well as retrieve!!), so what better name for her. Lucy is currently being treated for a skin infection through a regimen of medicated baths and antibiotics, but is otherwise in good shape. She has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. We've also treated Lucy to some much-deserved shopping (she is now sporting a trendy new leash and collar). If you are ready for some laughs and are looking for a dog as American as apple pie, then search no further. Our little comedy icon is just the girl for you. Come meet her and find yourself saying "I LOVE LUCY!"

Granny (Our Hannah Montana)

LATEST UPDATE: A big hello to everyone from my new foster home in Dingman's Ferry, PA., otherwise known as "Camp Bonnie." My new foster mom Bonnie is just the best. I am the only foster kid here right now (yes, we seniors are also known as "kids" to our humans), but I have plenty of company here. In addition to Bonnie, I have 5 brothers and sisters to play with (including Scruffy, a mini schnauzer who Bonnie adopted from Abandoned Angels about a year ago). I also have a new friend named Bambi, a beautiful doe who often wanders up onto Bonnie's lawn. I'm always on the lookout for new furry friends, especially deer, who really make my ears perk up! I am posting some new photos of me in my foster home with some of my new friends. Life is just idyllic up here ... what a retirement! If you'd like to visit me here in the Poconos, just drop me a line ... you don't know what (or who) you've been missing! Love, Granny XXOO

UPDATE: I'm no longer known as Granny around here, just call me "Hannah Montana". I feel as young and beautiful as a teenager with my new makeover! What do you think?

Granny is a 13 year old Cocker/Springer Spaniel cross who was dumped at Brooklyn ACC and left to die by heartless owners, who said they simply did not want her anymore. We arrived at ACC to pick up a sweet little puppy and could not bear to leave poor Granny behind. She was shaking from head to toe and seemed to know that she did not stand a chance. Sometimes rescue needs to swoop in on angels' wings to help poor elderly dogs like Granny, who otherwise would not have a prayer. Granny is currently being treated at our vet's office for dental disease and a severe upper respiratory infection, which she contracted in the shelter. Once she recovers, we anticipate she will be as bright and shiny as a Granny Smith Apple from your favorite green grocer. Granny is a typical grandma, warm, loving and sweet. She adores children and lives to watch over them as they sleep. If you have warm memories of your own grandma, perhaps you can find it in your heart to offer our Granny a safe and loving place to live out her golden years. Granny is an old fashioned girl, but she is learning about the internet through a senior citizens' class and plans to check her email inbox daily. Granny is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will shortly be having a contemporary makeover with our groomer's help and will also go home with a new leash and collar. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS GRANNY'S SENIOR CARE FUND, PLEASE PAYPAL YOUR DONATION TO US AT DONATION@NYABANDONEDANGELS.COM AND EARMARK IT "FOR GRANNY."

Charley

LATEST UPDATE: Charley has now traveled into foster care in Manhattan's East Village, where he is hanging his hat with Vicky, former foster mom extraordinaire to both Bear and Colby. A big thank you to Vicky for providing Charley with an interim destination as he prepares to Travel to his forever home.

UPDATE: Charley is a super sweet boy that will just melt your heart with his gentle and loving nature. We can NOT believe this wonderful guy was ever a stray. We are all head over heels for Charley. Come meet Charley and fall in love.

Charley is a very handsome 5 year old pale buff Cocker Spaniel with a majestic air and a wonderful temperament. As nothinig much seems to rattle him, he would likely make an excellent pet for a family with older children. He is calmness personified! Charley came to us from the Manhattan shelter, where he had come in as a stray. Even his raggedy appearance could not conceal his regal air. He reminded us of a prince in pauper's clothing. Anyone who has read the Steinbeck classic "Travels With Charley" will appreciate what an amazing companion a dog can be, whether at home or on the road. Whether you are planning a trip or staying put this spring, Charley is sure to make great company! Charley has been neutered, microchipped, has had a cherry eye corrected, and also been treated to a dental. He is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to begin your travels through life with Charley, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Charley will be checking his inbox daily! A BIG THANK YOU TO JACKIE OF CONEY ISLAND FOR OFFERING ADDIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME BY THE SEA. LATEST UPDATE: Addie is now home from the hospital, although still not 100%. She will continue to recuperate in foster care, where we are monitoring her closely. We have incurred a substantial veterinary bill in saving Addie's life and would be grateful for donations to off-set the high cost of rescuing her (she is worth every penny, of course). Your tax-deductible donation for Addie can be sent to us via paypal using donation@nyabandonedangels.com as the recipient address. Many thanks to everyone who has been rooting for Addie!

UPDATE: PLEASE HELP THIS "GRANDE DAME" - WHO IS NOW SUFFERING FROM PNEUMONIA - RECEIVE THE MEDICAL ATTENTION SHE SO DESPERATELY NEEDS. ANYONE WISHING TO MAKING A TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION TO HELP THIS ABANDONED ANGEL MAY DO SO VIA PAYPAL USING EMAIL ADDRESS: DONATION@NYABANDONEDANGELS.COM (WE ARE A 501(C) CORPORATION). PLEASE EARMARK YOUR DONATION "FOR ADDIE."

BIO: Addison is a very pretty 9-10 year old buff female Cocker Spaniel who came to us from the Manhattan shelter, where she was turned in as a stray. We wonder how anyone could have put a dog with such a gentle nature out onto the street. Addie is a very sweet dog with a beautiful face and deep, soulful eyes that have obviously seen their share of sadness. Addie came into rescue with both an upper respiratory infection and a bladder infection, both of which caused her enormous physical distress and led to hospitalization. While she initially rallied under our vet's care, she recently took a turn for the worse and was diagnosed with pneumonia. Addie is currently being treated with IV antibiotics and fluids but has a way to go before she recovers. Once she is well, Addie will be professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. Addie has been spayed, microchipped, treated to a dental, received all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Addie a place to bask in the sun as she continues her recuperation (whether a foster home or an adoptive home), please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Addie will be checking her inbox daily

Gwynevere

A BIG THANK YOU TO PATTY AND FAMILY OF MEXICO, NY FOR OFFERING GWENNIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME! GWENNIE WILL SURELY BE ENJOYING THE HOLIDAY SEASON THIS YEAR ... THANK YOU, PATTY!

LATEST UPDATE: Sadly, Gwynevere was adopted out to a loving family in PA but was returned after several months. While Gwennie is described as being EXTREMELY LOVING towards her family, she does not like strangers, which is proving problematic, as the household is an active one, with lots of people coming and going. We believe that Gwennie's snippiness around people is due in no small part to infections in both ears, which are currently being treated. Nevertheless, we are looking to re-home Gwennie in an adult only household where visitors are infrequent and where the activity level is low.

UPDATE: Gwynevere has recovered completely and is now READY FOR ADOPTION!! From the way she frolicks with the rest of the pack in her foster home, one would never know that she was ever injured. Gwennie is doing great and now just needs a place to call her forever home. Gwennie would be a super match for someone looking for a sweet buff female Cocker Spaniel in the prime of her life. Gwennie has been spayed, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She is now a completely healthy girl.

BIO: Gwynevere is a beautiful 7 year old pale buff Cocker Spaniel. This damsel in distress found herself suffering with a dislocated hip at Manhattan Animal Control, where she languished in a cage for over a month. We do not know how the injury occurred, only that her family brought her in for euthanasia. While Animal Control could not summon King Arthur and his Knights to come to Gwynevere's aid, they tried many rescue groups and finally found a place for her with Abandoned Angels. While Gwynevere does require orthopedic surgery, she is expected to recover fully. Last year we had a dog pass through our doors who required surgery for an identical injury and he came through it like a champ. These days he spends his days frolicking on the beach and surfing waves in North Carolina. We are of course hoping for an equally happy ending for Gwynevere. Gwynevere will require several weeks of cage rest after surgery, but should be ready for adoption in early January. If you would like to be Gwynevere's Knight in Shining Armor, please contact us to discuss her further.

Winston

THIS POSTING IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF BIFF, WINSTON'S HEARTWORM POSITIVE FRIEND, WHO DID NOT SURVIVE HEARTWORM TREATMENT. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.

A BIG THANK YOU TO VICKI AND FAMILY OF BERNARDSTON, MA FOR OFFERING WINSTON A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME! BIO:

Hello, my name is Winston. I am a handsome 3-4 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel. I have been very neglected during my life and until rather recently have not received much pampering. I came into rescue badly bitten up by fleas and ticks, and also covered in mange and ringworm. By the time I arrived, I had lost big patches of fur, and (worse still) also tested Heartworm positive. I have now completed Heartworm treatment and no longer have "cooties" of any kind on my skin or coat, so I am ready for adoption now! I will devote my heart and soul to my new family and fill their lives with love, all that I ask in return is that they take good care of me (especially important is that I receive a monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative). I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date with all shots, and will be professionally groomed prior to adoption. I would do best in an experienced Cocker Spaniel home where my new owner will take my traumatized background into account and give me time to settle in and demonstrate what a good dog I can be. We need to build trust together, which will not happen overnight. I would really prefer an adult only home, although I could be placed in a home with very mature kids who have lots of dog experience. I can be rather unsure of myself in new environments and around strangers, but once I feel secure, I am just the best boy ever. If you would like to open your heart and home to me, please request an application from Abandoned Angels at rescue@nyabandonedangels.com ... I'll be waiting to hear from you. Please give me a chance! Love, Winston XXOO

Gingerbread

Gingerbread is a handsome 5 year old buff Cocker Spaniel with a natural tail. He is a smaller size Cocker Spaniel weighing only about 25 pounds, quite petite for a male. Gingerbread came into Animal Care and Control in Manhattan as a stray, having been found in the Bronx, tied to a fence on a freezing cold day. Gingerbread was understandably confused and upset. Now that Gingerbread is feeling safe, he is proving to be a very loving dog and a loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be at his person's side (unless, of course, he is busy playing with his fuzzy toys or chasing after his favorite rubber ball). While he has made a lot of progress since coming into rescue, we believe that Gingerbread would do best in an adult only home having prior experience with traumatized animals. Prior Cocker Spaniel experience would also be a plus. Gingerbread is 100% housebroken, has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer this handsome boy a new beginning, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Gingerbread is ready to put some spice in your life!

Buff

LATEST UPDATE FROM BUFFIE'S FOSTER MOM: BUFFIE IS DOING GREAT! ALTHOUGH HE INITIALLY SHOWED SIGNS OF POSSIBLE SEPARATION ANXIETY, BUFF HAS COMPLETELY CALMED DOWN AND IS DOING WONDERFULLY WELL. HE IS FULLY HOUSEBROKEN AND VERY TRUSTWORTHY WHEN LEFT ALONE IN THE HOUSE. BUFFIE IS VERY INTELLIGENT AND KNOWS BASIC COMMANDS SUCH AS "SIT", "GIVE PAW" AND "LAY DOWN." BUFFIE LOVES TO SOCIALIZE WITH PEOPLE AND OTHER DOGS, AND IS EVEN GOOD WITH CATS (HE DID WONDERFULLY WELL WITH EVERYONE AT A RECENT FATHER'S DAY PARTY). THANK YOU, LINDA, FOR PROVIDING BUFFIE WITH YOUR VERY SPECIAL BRAND OF TLC! AS THE BEATLES WOULD SAY, SOMETIMES "ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE" TO REACH YOUR FULL POTENTIAL!

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO LINDA AND HER RESCUED SHIH TZU ZOEY OF THE COUNTRY CLUB SECTION OF THE BRONX FOR OFFERING BUFFIE (FORMERLY KNOWN AS PEPSI) A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME.THANK YOU LINDA AND ZOEY!

BIO:

Buffie is a handsome buff male Cocker Spaniel 6 years old who was found as a stray. He is a fairly tall Cocker weighing around 30 pounds. When his owners could not be located despite a diligent search, his finder contacted rescue. Buffie has a winning personality ... this happy-to-lucky boy is perpetually wagging his tail and is very friendly with everyone. He responds both to his name and to a whistle, bounding back as if greeting a long lost friend. Buffie enjoys spending time in his crate, where he will sleep soundly, lost in peaceful dreams, instinctively knowing that he is safe. He gets along well with other pets, both dogs and cats, so could easily join a multiple pet household. Buffie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Buffie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Buffie is waiting to hear from you!

Sammy Sunshine

A BIG THANK YOU TO VICKY OF BROOKLYN FOR OFFERING SAMMY A SAFE AND LOVING, COCKER SAVVY FOSTER HOME! THANK YOU, VICKY!

Hello, my name is Sammy Sunshine. I am a handsome red Cocker Spaniel just 3 years old. I recently came into rescue from the Staten Island shelter. At this cold and dark time of year, I'm sure that you could use a few rays of sunshine to brighten up your day. So wouldn't you like to take me home? I am cute as can be and have a very friendly disposition. I'll chase away the winter blues better than a trip to Arizona or the Florida Keys. My little tail is always on the move, just like a propeller, so I'm sure to keep you smiling. I'm neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. If you'd like to snuggle up together, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application ... I'll be waiting to hear from you! Love, Sammy XXOO

Oberon

A BIG THANK YOU TO KIM AND FAMILY OF ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY FOR OFFERING OBIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME. OBIE IS CURRENTLY HANGING HIS HAT WITH WILSUN (FORMERLY KNOWN AS "TINSEL"), ANOTHER COCKER WHO WAS ADOPTED FROM ABANDONED ANGELS A YEAR OR SO AGO. OBIE IS PICTURED HERE RUNNING WITH WILSUN IN THE SNOWY YARD OF HIS FOSTER HOME AND (MORE RECENTLY) ENJOYING THE FIRST SUNNY DAYS OF SPRING!

Oberon is named after the King of the Fairies character in Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream." Obie was found as a hungry stray by a drama student on Long Island. Herself a starving artist, she could not afford to keep him, so contacted rescue when his owners could not be found. Obie is an older dog believed to be about 9 or 10. He is a larger size Cocker Spaniel weighing about 40 pounds. Obie is very gentle and loving and could be placed in a home with kids. He gets along well with other dogs and, as he has shown no aggression, should do fine with cats as well. Obie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Obie his Dream Home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Obie has been dreaming about YOU!

Buddy

A BIG THANK YOU TO DOUG AND BILL OF UPSTATE NY FOR OFFERING BUDDY AND HIS NEW FOSTER BROTHER NINJA A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME ON THEIR SNOWY HILLTOP IN THE COUNTRY!

Buddy is a 7 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel who came to us as an owner surrender when his parents split up and his dad fell ill. Despite putting on a brave face, Buddy is truly grieving the loss of his family. Sadly, Buddy does not yet understand that he will never be returning to his former home. What he needs to heal his broken heart is someone else to love. Buddy was strongly bonded to his dad so will likely become quite attached to a male in the household. Buddy is a handsome dog who is almost pure white in color. As he is a bit of a chunky boy, he ressembles a baby polar bear. What could be cuter? Buddy previously lived with three other Cocker Spaniels (both males and females), so would do well in a multi-dog household. Buddy has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to open your heart and home to Buddy, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Buddy really needs a friend.
Pokey

A BIG THANK YOU TO GAIL OF KERHONKSON, NY FOR OFFERING POKEY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Pokey Little Pilgrim is looking for a new family with whom to celebrate Thanksgiving. This purebred black Cocker Spaniel with a splash of white on his chest (the quintessential Pilgrim outfit) is just 18 months old. Pokey Little Pilgrim was an owner surrender to the Brooklyn shelter. No specific reasons were provided when he was given up ... his family said they just did not want him anymore. A lame excuse if ever there was one! Now that Cocker Rescue has gotten to know him, we feel that Pokey Little Pilgrim would do best in a quiet, adult only home. Too many people coming and going tends to confuse him. Pokey Little Pilgrim would do well with an experienced Cocker Spaniel family who will not be overwhelmed by his quirks (he can get feisty with strangers, which is something that his new owners should be prepared to work on). Pokey Little Pilgrim is a good little dog but has the potential to be a fabulous dog ... he just needs a little guidance and firm but gentle discipline. Pokey Little Pilgrim is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before going home and will also come with a new leash and collar. If you are an experienced Cocker Spaniel owner and have room in your heart and home for Pokey Little Pilgrim, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Pokey Little Pilgrim will make a wonderful new addition with whom to celebrate Thanksgiving this year and for many years to come.

Tony

MANY THANKS TO THE REEVES FAMILY OF LARCHMONT, NY FOR OFFERING TONY AND HIS NEW FOSTER BROTHER FRISBEE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Hello, my name is Tony. Whoever says that a slightly older dog is not worth adopting is full of Baloney! I am a handsome 8 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel. I am a beautiful deep rust color. I came into Rescue after having been found as a stray. I am still a little bit fearful (my nerves just could not take life on the streets) but I am finally starting to feel safe and much more like my old self. I am a chubby, happy-go-lucky boy who wants nothing more than to sink into a comfy sofa and watch TV with my special someone. Although I'm not much of an athlete, I enjoy going for walks. I love the autumn leaves and just can't wait to hear them crunching under my little feet. Fall is just my favorite time of year! Pumpkin pie and turkey, here I come!! Let's spend the upcoming holidays together! I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I have just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to help me live happily ever after, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. I'll be checking my email inbox daily! Love and Licks from your friend Tony XXOO

Cody

CODY IS LOOKING FOR A FOSTER HOME WITH LOTS OF DOG EXPERIENCE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO OFFER CODY A PLACE TO HANG HIS HAT, PLEASE DROP US A LINE!

Cody is a handsome parti-colored Cocker Spaniel who will be turning 6 years old in September. He is a larger size, purebred American Cocker with AKC papers who was purchased from a breeder as a young pup. Cody came to us as an owner surrender after his Dad suffered a stroke and could no longer care for him. Cody is a very loving and playful boy who is happiest when he is receiving loads of attention. He might best be described as a "total ham." Cody will do best in an experienced, adult only Cocker Spaniel home where someone has a lot of time to devote to him. As Cody truly yearns to be "man's best friend," we believe he would do exceptionally well with a male owner. Although Cody enjoys the company of other dogs, he would enjoy being the only pet and the center of someone's canine universe. Cody is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been fully vet checked, including bloodwork and a dental. He passed with flying colors and is a very healthy boy. If you would like to adopt Cody, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Cody is waiting to rock your world!

Rusty

A BIG THANK YOU TO TIM AND FAMILY OF JERSEY CITY, NJ FOR OFFERING RUSTY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Rusty is looking for a FOSTER HOME ... or, better still, an adoptive home where he can receive all the love and attention that he deserves! Rusty is a handsome 12 year old senior Cocker Spaniel who was surrendered to a shelter in Pennsylvania when his owner passed away. As one might imagine, Rusty became depressed and despondent and very nearly lost all will to live. Since coming into Rescue, Rusty has begun to revive. Although he was at first quite unhappy, he has at last begun to wag his stubby tail. He recently enjoyed a bath and professional grooming and has been lapping up affection. We have just run some bloodwork to be sure that Rusty does not have a thyroid or other medical condition, as he is quite a chunky boy. His bloodwork came back perfect, so we imagine that Rusty was simply overfed. He is rather annoyed at having been put on a diet, but endeavoring to make the best of it. Rusty is okay with other dogs most of the time and would likely be fine with cats. However, he is such an attention hog that he would probably prefer to be the only pet. Rusty would be a wonderful companion for a retired person or someone who is looking for a low key pet. Rusty has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to give Rusty a place to call home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Moo-moo

MANY THANKS TO REBECCA FOR OFFERING MOO-MOO A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME ON HER FARM IN VERMONT!

Those of you who appreciate the finer things in life may appreciate Moo-moo, a 10 year old black and white Cocker Spaniel who deserves the finer things in life, too. From Moo-moo's point of view, the finer things in life are pretty simple, although he has found them hard to come by: a loving owner and a place to call home. Moo-moo came into rescue after having been abandoned at the Brooklyn shelter by the family with whom he had spent his entire life. As an older boy, Frette's chances of adoption in a city shelter were slim to none and he was scheduled for euthanasia. When we heard about Moo-moo, we could not turn our backs on him as his family had. Moo-moo is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you are looking for a dog who is especially deserving of a life as a pampered pet, Moo-moo is the one for you!b>
Codee

Codee is a handsome 7 year old pure black Cocker Spaniel who was rescued with several other dogs during a cruelty raid. Codee and his pals had been abandoned in a house without food or water for a number of days. After a stint in a local shelter, a good Samaritan stepped up to the plate to help them. She had each member of these cruelty dogs vetted and found places for them with various rescues. Several have been adopted already. We are very happy to do our part by helping place Codee in a loving home. Codee has been steadily putting on some much needed weight and is otherwise doing well. He is now up-to-date on all shots, tested negative for heartworm, and recently had a dental. He has also been professionally groomed. Codee becomes very upset when crated, therefore he should never be confined. He also loves the company of his people and would not do well in a household where he would be left alone for long periods. We believe that Codee would make a good companion for an older person or someone who works from home. Codee might also do best as an only dog or the only male dog in the home. If you believe that you can offer Codee a place to call home, please contact us to discuss him further. Codee is waiting to hear from you.

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO PAT OF STAMFORD,CONNECTICUT FOR PROVIDING CODEE WITH A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME WHILE HE AWAITS HIS FOREVER FAMILY.

Lady Godiva

Fat Actress (otherwise known as Lady) is a curvaceous 8 year old Cocker Spaniel who came to us as an owner surrender. The colors in her coat remind us of a chocolate box: patches of caramel running through white chocolate. Fat Actress wishes she had been born in an era when curvy starlets were better appreciated. Back then, one Fat Actress equalled two of the Olsen Twins! Fat Actress has been wondering if her plump and feminine figure could be one reason why she has been offered so few roles lately. Although she has for the last few weeks been consulting Jenny Craig (and a new diet pal called Valerie) about developing a slimmer bod, what Fat Actress really needs to boost her self-esteem (as well as her metabolism) is a fabulous character part. Fat Actress is well-equipped to audition for a role in your family production, having been spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated and tested for heartworm. If you would like to invite Fat Actress in to read for you, please contact Abandoned Angels to discuss her further. As her agent, we can tell you all the reasons why Fat Actress would be perfect for the role of "Snuggle Bug," for which she has been diligently rehearsing in any warm lap she can find. FAT ACTRESS WOULD LIKE TO INVITE THE FOLLOWING SPONSORS TO TAKE A BOW: Many thanks to Treena Horn for generously picking up the tab for some early vetting. And a big special thank you to Howard and Robert of Malverne, NY for providing our drama queen with a safe and loving foster home while she awaits her next big break!

Nugget

UPDATE: BIG NEWS! Nugget is now enjoying life in a foster home in NJ with his foster mom Jennifer, Jennifer's husband, and his foster sister Brownie, an elegant standard poodle. Jennifer reports that Nugget is an extremely affectionate boy. He has shown no signs of food aggression and will sit upon command before taking a treat from Jennifer's hand; he does engage in mild resource guarding, however. Nugget adores attention and loves to cuddle with his foster family on the sofa, as well as joining Jennifer and friends for pilates workouts and long hikes! Nugget loves being the center of attention. Jennifer reports that he did wonderfully well during his grooming appointment ... far from needing to be muzzled, Nugget showered the groomer with kisses! Many thanks to Jennifer and her family for providing Nugget with a foster home while he seeks his Forever Family. Our goal is to have Nugget adopted by the New Year!

Nugget is a 3 year old buff Cocker Spaniel with beautiful hazel eyes, an adorable pink nose, and a long, natural tail that is always swishing away. Although we love all of our Cockers, now and again we meet a dog like Nugget, who strikes us as having a rather special spirit. Nugget is a big boy with a big heart who has managed to maintain his trust in people despite having been severely neglected. This handsome boy was surrendered to Brooklyn Animal Control in such filthy, matted condition that he had to be completely shaved down. Underneath it all, we discovered a skin infection, as well as inflamed and infected ears that had not been cleaned in months, if not years. Now that he is in our care, Nugget is feeling much better. After enjoying some soothing medicated baths, his skin is looking much better, and the infections in his ears are clearing. He is recovering nicely and will be ready for adoption soon. Nugget has been neutered, is up-to-date on his shots, and has also tested negative for heartworm. We would prefer an experienced Cocker home without young children for Nugget, as he can be somewehat protective of bones and treats and will require some remedial training in this area. Any children in the household should therefore be 12 and up. Nugget ADORES other dogs and has so far shown no aggression towards cats, so could be adopted into a multiple pet household. If you would like to open your heart and home to Nugget, please contact us to discuss him further.

Flipper

UPDATE:

UPDATE: BIG NEWS! Flipper has moved to a foster home in Maryland that he will be sharing with 8 other rescued Cocker Spaniels. Thank you Rhea and family!

BIO:

Flipper is a sweet, laid back cocker spaniel that loves his toys. He's a quiet cocker that likes to take his time toodling around the yard sniffing out squirrels and other critters. He is house trained and walks well on a leash. If left alone for long periods of time he is happy to go into his crate and take a snooze. He loves to go for walks and visit with people he meets along the way and he gets along well with other dogs, mostly ignoring them. He likes to be part of a cocker pile when its nap time but is also happy to be with his human -- and that is his definite preference. He follows his foster mom from room to room and if she stops to work on the computer, talk on the phone or cook a little something, he is close by watching to be sure she doesn't get too far away.

Flipper has Cushing's, an adrenal gland problem, but it is well controlled with medication and he no longer has problems with excessive drinking and urination. He's lost a great deal of weight and feels and acts much younger than his years. Do not overlook the love Flipper has to share because of his age or Cushing's. Flipper is a wonderful, loving cocker spaniel that wants to share his life and love with someone special.

Henry ~ BEFORE/AFTER PHOTOS

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO KIM OF MASSACHUSETTS FOR OPENING HER HEART AND HOME TO OUR VERY SPECIAL HENRY. THANK YOU KIM FOR FOSTERING HENRY!

BIO:

Several months ago, we looked into the eyes of an Angel that was abandoned on the streets of Staten Island in horrific condition and told him that everything would be alright. Henry was a stray between 8 and 10 years old who was brought to a local shelter a total bloody mess. His body was covered in hot sports (sores), the result of chronic scratching. Poor Henry cried in pain. The shelter said they had never seen a dog in such terrible condition and administered several types of topical solutions to make Henry comfortable, even putting socks on him. Henry was such a good boy throughout the ordeal of his treatment, the shelter felt he should not be euthanized and sent a plea out to Rescue. We looked at his pathetic picture and could not turn our backs on him. We immediately had him transported to our Vet's office and ordered extensive blood work, skin scrapings, and skin cultures on Henry, all of which came back negative for the usual suspects (mange, ringworm, etc). Although Henry does have a heart murmur and some visual deficit, his bloodwork actually looks excellent. Our vet subsequently ran a battery of allergy tests, which revealed a number of environmental allergies. We have been administering custom mixed allergy shots on Henry for several months now, as well as a lengthy course of antibiotics, and Henry has slowly begun to improve. Despite his allergies, Henry need never have been reduced to the condition in which he was found … the true culprit is a lifetime of NEGLECT by owners who did not provide Henry with the love and care he so deserved. One would never know from Henry's demeanor what an unfortunate boy he was before coming into Rescue. He loves life, going for walks, being petted, and simply being near those who care for him. He showers us with endless kisses and gets along well with other dogs, even with cats. He is a gentle boy who could even be trusted with the smallest of children. Henry is a Cocker with an enormous loving heart and a soul to match. If your heart and soul are equally large, perhaps Henry is the dog for you. You will never come across a pet more grateful or deserving than our Henry.
