Guapo ~ PENDING

Guapo, which means handsome in Spanish, is true to his name! He has a guapo red coat, a guapo personality, and a guapo need for a new home! His family is moving out of the United States, and cannot take him with them. Guapo is a 3 year old male red colored Cocker Spaniel. He does well with children and other pets. Guapo has been neutered, updated on all vaccines, and heartworm tested negative. He will go home professionally groomed, with a new leash and color. If you would like to adopt Guapo please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com to request an application.

Nickie

Nickie is a 15 month old buff male Cocker Spaniel puppy who is coming to us as an owner surrender. A toddler in the home has a tendency to fall on top of Nickie, which he does not appreciate. Nickie is a friendly boy who is good with older kids as well as other dogs, so could easily join a multiple pet household. Nickie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Nickie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Nickie is waiting to hear from you.

Kylie

Kylie is a very petite sable female Cocker Spaniel just 3 years old. Kylie was a pet store purchase by someone who intended to breed her but (thankfully) never got around to it. She was bounced between a few homes before someone did the sensible thing and surrendered her to rescue. Kylie has not had a great deal of stability in her life thus far, so would do best in a quiet environment where she can be given the opportunity to bond and feel secure. She definitely needs placement in a low-key household (adult only or one with older, dog savvy kids). While initially somewhat timid with other dogs, she has become quite playful and friendly with two male cockers in rescue, so could join a multiple pet household. Kylie has now been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Kylie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Kylie is ready to reach her full potential!

Queenie

Like true royalty, Queenie is a loyal and loving companion. It is a shame that her previous owners did not treat her as such. After being surrendered to the Brooklyn shelter for the third time, she was finally released to rescue. Because of this, Queenie needs time to warm up to her new home. She will be shy at first, but then a burst of joy. She loves to gently give paw, and accept loving pats. After, she will run around and celebrate! She has been spayed, updated on vaccines, heartworm tested, and treated to a dental. All she needs now is a castle to call her own. Queenie has been professionally groomed, and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to foster or adopt Queenie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

If you would like to adopt or foster Lenny, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com. Thank you!

Tango ~PENDING

A romantic dance, perfect to be shared with a gorgeous petite Cocker Spaniel sharing it's name ~ TANGO! She will dance her way right into your heart! Tango is a 5 year old, sable colored Cocker Spaniel. She is a petite 18 pounds, and enjoys being carried. Her little feet dance with excitement when she meets new people, and she enjoys the company of children and other pets. Look no further, your dancing partner has been found! If you would like to adopt Tango, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Gaga

Gaga came into our rescue after being found as a stray in Staten Island. She is an adorable mix of a Cocker Spaniel and a Shetland Sheepdog. This, and her amazing personality make her one of a kind. Her gentle disposition is contagious. And when her magnificent tail wags, you will know the true meaning of happiness. You will go gaga for Gaga! She is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, heartworm tested negative, and has been treated to a dental. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Gaga, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application

Chippy

Chippy is a salt and pepper colored Cocker Spaniel. He is seasoned just right after 14 years in a loving home. Age has come with some challenges for Chippy. He has had both of his eyes surgically removed before coming into our rescue. This was done to relieve the pain of Glaucoma. Despite this, he moves around well once accustomed to his surroundings. Able to sniff out his food, and eat it happily. Strolling to his comfortable bed, where he dreams of his new life in a loving home. And of course, gently leaning into a loving hand rubbing his chin. Please open your home to foster Chippy. His golden years should be as heartwarming as he is. Chippy is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and heartworm negative. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. Please email Abandoned Angels at rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application

Fortune Cookie

Fortune Cookie is an elderly pale buff Cocker Spaniel who believes that the cards may yet having something good in store for her. She is believed to be around 12. Fortune Cookie came into the Brooklyn Shelter as an owner surrender, her family requesting euthanasia. If Fortune Cookie had an ounce of aggression in her, she would have come in kicking and screaming in protest. After all, while in her later years, she is most definitely NOT ready to head off into the sunset. Rather than put her down, the shelter contacted rescue to come for her. Although she has some arthritis, Fortune Cookie is an otherwise healthy girl. She is gentle and very affectionate, so will make a good companion for someone looking for a low key friend. Fortune Cookie has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has been treated to a dental and will be professionally groomed before going home. While not all of our older dogs are lucky enough to find adoptive placement, they are just as grateful for a FOSTER HOME. If you would like to foster Fortune Cookie (or, better still, make her your very own) please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Fortune Cookie is sure to bring good luck your way ... after all, few things in life ensure better karma than helping a needy senior pet!

Salsa

Salsa is a handsome 2-3 year old Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan Shelter as an owner surrender. According to his family, it just wasn't working out. Salsa tried some new moves - including the Fox Trot - but was unable to persuade his owners to give him another chance. Salsa was released to rescue when his shelter time was up. We are seeking an adult only home with prior Cocker Spaniel experience for Salsa, where he can really perfect his dance steps. Salsa gets along with other dogs, so could easily join a multiple pet household. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. Salsa will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you believe you may be the chips to this boy's Salsa, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Salsa is ready to dance his way straight into your heart.

Disco

Disco is a handsome jet black Cocker Spaniel with a natural tail that he loves to swing Travolta style! He is a young dog roughly 2 years old. Disco was surrendered to the Manhattan Shelter by a lady in the Bronx who had owned him just a few weeks. She was very fond of Disco but was not permitted to keep him in her rental apartment, so poor Disco had to go. His history before that is unknown. Disco is a small Cocker Spaniel, weighing just 22 pounds. While he looks to have lacked pampering in his life, it has not affected his disposition one bit. Disco remains an outgoing boy who is friendly both with people and with other pets. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartoworm. Disco will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are ready to dance with Disco, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Disco is ready to bring some Fever to your Saturday Night!

Rhumba ~ PENDING

Rhumba iS a handsome 2 year old jet black Cocker Spaniel who came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray. When he went unclaimed, Rhumba was released to rescue. Rhumba is an easy going boy with a gentle disposition who gets along well with other dogs. We are currently evaluating his suitability for placement in a home with kids and will update his bio as we get to know him better. Rhumba has been neutered, mirochipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you are ready to rumble with Rhumba, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Rhumba is ready to fill your forever dance card! !

Skechers

A BIG THANK YOU TO AILIE JENKINS AND FAMILY FOR GIVING SKECHERS A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Skechers is a handsome 5 year old reddish buff Cocker Spaniel. There is nothing remotely "sketchy" about this adorable little guy. He's all heart, with a great personality, friendly towards everyone he meets. We're in love already! Skechers came into the Brooklyn Shelter as an owner surrender suffering from a bad ear infection (which is currently clearing with antibiotics). We are told that he has a history of mild seizures, but have not observed any yet. Skechers has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Skechers or offer him a foster home while he awaits his forever family, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Skechers is waiting for someone to sketch him a roadmap home.

Elmer

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE CHAN FAMILY OF EDISON, NJ, FOR OFFERING ELMER A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME. ELMER IS OFTEN ON THE ROAD WITH HIS FOSTER DAD AS HE TRAVELS IN BETWEEN SYRACUSE AND EDISON ... ELMER IS A GREAT TRAVEL BUDDY AND LOVES THE CAR! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, TO THE CHAN FAMILY!

Elmer is a handsome buff and white Cocker Spaniel just 2 years old. Elmer has been in and out of the NYC shelter system a couple of times through no fault of his own - he's quite a sweet dog, one who has just had bad luck!! Now that he is safe in rescue, we will work on finding Elmer the RIGHT place to go. Elmer is a happy-to-lucky type who gets along with people and other dogs. He has not had much consistency or training in his young life, so could use an experienced owner to show him the way to reaching his full potential. Elmer is very healthy, has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Elmer, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Once he has the opportunity to bond and feel secure, Elmer is sure to stick to you like Glue.

Pebble Beach

A BIG THANK YOU TO JILL AND ABRAHAM OF MALVERNE, NY, FOR OFFERING PEBBLES A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME.

After many years of service as a wonderful family dog, Pebble Beach found herself stranded on the shore, dumped in a kill shelter. We've told her not to worry, THE TIDE ALWAYS COMES BACK. What's more, there is a special wave (and row boat) designated for the rescue of abandoned senior dogs. No one deserves to be rushed to the finish line, slated for euthanasia simply because they are old (we believe Pebble Beach to be around 10). While she is of course heartbroken (who wouldn't be), this sweet senior Cocker lives to love and is ready to spend the twilight of her life loving someone new. Pebble Beach is a healthy older girl, is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, treated to dentistry, and heartworm negative. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to foster or adopt Pebble Beach, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. This special girl is waiting for her tide to turn.

"Rhinestone Cowboy"

A BIG THANK YOU TO BETH AND FAMILY OF ROCKLAND COUNTY FOR OFFERING RHINESTONE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH HE IS SHARING WITH THE FAMILY BICHON. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, BETH!

Like the Rhinestone Cowboy in the sad Glen Campbell song, our Rhinestone Cowboy says: I've been walkin' these streets so long, Singin' the same old song". Our Rhinestone came into the Staten Island shelter as a stray, looking as if he'd fallen on hard times. When his stray time was up, he was released to rescue, arriving dirty and neglected. Now that he has been treated to a professional grooming, Rhinestone Cowboy is now feeling ready for the rodeo. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, has tested negative for heartworm, and will shortly be treated to a dental. Rhinestone Cowboy has proven to be a very sweet and loving dog, one who is low-key and a good companion. He does well in the company of other dogs, so would do fine in a multiple pet household. While he awaits his forever home, Rhinestone Cowboy would make a perfect foster dog for a family who would like to offer a gentle senior pet a place to lay his weary head. If you would like to offer our Rhinestone a place to hang his Cowboy hat, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Rhinestone Cowboy is ready to giddyup and go home!

Monty

A BIG THANK YOU TO BRANWEN BUCKLEY FOR GIVING MONTE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Ready for the Full Monty? This handsome buff and white Cocker Spaniel is roughly 10 years old. A senior pet, yes, but the best company one could ask for. Monty loves everyone and is a true ambassador for the breed. He is happiest in the company of people and is gentle enough to be trusted with the smallest of kids. Although an older boy, he has not outgrown his puppy love for toys, which he is happy to share with other dogs. He is a great candidate for a multiple pet household. Monty has been fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm and been treated for a dental. He has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. Monty is somewhat vision impaired but has enough sight left to get around just fine. He has been evaluated by an opthalmologist and will go home with eyedrops. While he awaits his forever family, Monty would make a perfect foster dog for a family seeking to offer a safe and loving home to a low key senior. If you are looking for the Full Monty and would like to adopt or foster ours, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Monty is waiting to hear from you.

Precious

Like the movie by the same name, "Precious" is worthy of Oscar buzz. This gorgeous 10 year old black and white Cocker Spaniel was recently turned into the Brooklyn Shelter as an owner surrender. Like the character in the film, she has grown to feel unworthy and unloved. Precious is now on a quest to find a home just as precious as she is, where someone will appreciate her inner as well as her outer beauty and help her to regain her self-esteem. Precious is a loving girl who deserves better than her earlier lot in life. No one should be discarded simply because they have grown older. Precious has been fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and has tested negative for heartworm. Other than a daily glucosamine supplement to ward off stiffness in her joints, she requires no medication and is a very healthy girl. Precious would do best in a quiet, adult home, which she will happily share with other pets. She has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Precious or offer her a foster home while she awaits her forever family, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Precious would like to thank the Academy - and you - for recognizing her Oscar potential.

Sir Max

A BIG THANK YOU TO LAURIE & BRYAN OF GALWAY, NY, FOR OFFERING MAX A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH MAX IS SHARING WITH TWO OTHER ENGLISH COCKERS RESCUED FROM ABANDONED ANGELS!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, LAURIE & BRYAN!

Sir Max is a 9 year old purebred English Cocker Spaniel who was surrendered a local shelter by his owner due to her own terminal illness. She was weeping hysterically at the time of his surrender. From the expression on Max's face, it is clear that he continues to grieve for her. Sir Max came to us with a severe infection in one ear, which we initially thought might require surgery. Fortunately, we have been successful in saving the ear. Sir Max is now a very healthy boy, although as an older dog he does have some stiffness in his joints, for which he is taking Cosequin. Sir Max would do best in an adult only home, perhaps with a single woman, as he is accustomed to being the center of his former mom's world. Sir Max has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to offer Sir Max a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Sir Max will be checking his email inbox daily.

George ~ PENDING

George is a handsome buff Cocker Spaniel just 5 years old. Although he needs a few minutes to warm up to strangers, George is a truly loving dog who is looking for a new best friend. George is a mite too nervous for a home with children but should do wonderfully well in an adult only environment. He will make a great companion for someone who is retired, works from home, or otherwise leads a quiet life. George is a very healthy dog who has been fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and is heartworm negative. He has just been professionally groomed (he loves his new shorter haircut!) and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt George perhaps foster him as he awaits his forever family, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. George is ready to be your new best friend!

Beautiful Blue

Beautiful Blue is a handsome 5 year old merle Cocker Spaniel named for his one blue eye (the other is brown). Blue would make an excellent companion for a single person who has a low key lifestyle. He is a very healthy boy who has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and tested negative for heartworm. He has just been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to give Beautiful Blue a beautiful new beginning, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Blue is waiting for You!

Blues Clues

Meet Blues Clues ... a little confused about how he got here, but hardly Clueless. Blues Clues is a 10 year old buff and white Cocker Spaniel with a heart of gold who was found as a stray on Staten Island. Sadly, no one came looking for this refined older gent during his stint at Animal Care and Control, whereupon he was released to rescue. Blues Clues is a very gentle boy who gets along well with people and other pets. He enjoys the usual suspects: going for walks, tasty treats, and of course belly rubs. Blues Clues has been neutered, microchipped, is current on all shots, and been treated to a dental. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to show our Blues Clues the way home to your heart, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. This 10 year old sweetheart would love to begin 2010 on the right foot, safe in the care of the forever family he has spent the last decade trying to find. Of course our Blues Clues knows that "you can't hurry love" but is tired of that old adage "you just have to wait" ... please let this sweet older boy know that his time has come at last!

Jonas ~ PENDING

A BIG THANK YOU TO THERESA SZPILA AND FAMILY FOR GIVING JONAS A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Jonas is a tall, regal looking poodle, who possibly has some wheaton terrier in him (in any event, he's as hypoallergenic as they come). Jonas is a loving dog with his own family, but can be somewhat fearful with strangers. Jonas needs someone who will be committed to him through bumps and setbacks. Sadly, too many people have simply given up on him. Jonas needs a very low key home, preferably in a rural or suburban setting, perhaps with a single person or a couple who lead a quiet life (no kids). Experience with troubled animals is essential. Jonas has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date with all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Jonas, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Jonas will be checking his inbox daily.

Canoli

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVA OF DOVER, NJ FOR OFFERING CANNOLI A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME.

Cannoli is a handsome senior Cocker Spaniel believed to be about 10 years old. Cannoli came to us from a shelter in New Jersey. While we generally rescue a bit closer to our own doorstep, Cannoli was such a severe neglect case that we could not refuse him. For many years, he was an outdoor dog, kept in conditions so decrepit that he eventually contracted maggots. As they usually infest only dead aimals, this should provide a vivid impression of what this poor dog's condition was. The shelter intended to put him down, but sent out a last minute plea to rescue. Upon first meeting him, our volunteer found him to be quite spiritless. However, she happened to have some pastry in her car and offered him a lick of cannoli filling ... whereupon he sprang to life. He trotted back into the shelter with a new name ("Cannoli") and a bit of a spring in his step. The paperwork was filled out and Cannoli was sprung. Cannoli no longer has any creepy crawlies on his person and is gradually learning what it means to be loved. He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Cannoli has been professionally groomed and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Cannoli, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. You will find this dog to be as sweet as his namesake.

Pythagoras

Pythagoras (fondly known to us as "Peeky") is a handsome 7-8 year old buff Cocker Spaniel who has come to us from Brooklyn ACC. He has stood out among the crowd as such a brilliant dog that we have named him after an ancient Greek philosopher, mathematician and astronomer. We speculate that our Pythagoras was studying the moon and the stars when he lost his way one recent fall evening ... he would not be the first absent-minded professor to become so engrossed in the cerebral that he forgot the practical (like where he lived). While at Animal Control, Pythagoras sat around working on algorithms just to pass the time. He had halfway concluded that rescue for a somewhat older dog was pi in the sky when we came up with a formula for springing him. Pythagoras has now been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. The only thing now missing from the equation of his life is a place called home. If you would like to offer Pythagoras a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Pythagoras will make the perfect companion with whom to go star-gazing (and is brainy enough to help you balance your checkbook).

Madden

A BIG THANK YOU TO DIANE AND FAMILY OF GREAT NECK, NY, FOR OFFERING MADDEN A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH MADDEN IS SHARING WITH "T-REX", ANOTHER COCKER ADOPTED FROM ABANDONED ANGELS!

We're just mad about Madden! Then again, who wouldn't simply lose their head? This handsome 3 year old chocolate merle Cocker Spaniel with blue eyes is such a stunner ... 800 Cocker Spaniels having passed through our rescue in the last 7 years and we have never seen one quite so exotic! The fact that he is sugar sweet, both with people and with other dogs, is the icing on the cake ... in short, this adorable boy is just too darling to resist! With such great qualities, it's an utter mystery that Madden should have been surrendered to Animal Care and Control on Staten Island when his owners moved away. Sadly, their plans just did not include him. With his wonderful temperament, Madden could be placed in a home with kids ages 8 and up (he's a mite too rambunctious for toddlers). Madden is somewhat allergy-prone, but is doing well on a grain-free diet (duck and potato by Natural Balance). He has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Madden has just enjoyed a professional grooming and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you are ready to become mad about Madden, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. In no time at all, he's sure to be mad about you!

Strawberry Rhubarb

Summer may be over, as is the season of berries and rhubarb, fruit cobbler and pie. But don't despair ... Strawberry Rhubarb is here ... he's our perpetual summer. This 12 year old buff male Cocker Spaniel was recently dumped at the Brooklyn pound by those he called "family". He came in covered in a severe skin infection with a fatty tumor on his chest and another on his outer ear flap, rotten teeth and badly infected ears. Despite it all, we were amazed to encounter a dog of incredibly good cheer with an aura about him akin to sunshine. His trusting eyes and smiling face simply melt the heart. Rhubarb has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He is currently being treated for his skin and ear infections and has recently had both dentistry and his tumors removed (all benign). If you would like to foster Rhubarb or, better still, offer him a forever home of his very own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Strawberry Rhubarb is waiting to hear from you!

Gustav

A BIG THANK YOU TO JEANNINE OF ROSLYN, NY, FOR OFFERING GUSTAV (AKA "GUCCI") A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Meet our handsome meteorologist, Gustav. A typical weather man, he is a dapper and outgoing guy. Gustav is a 6-7 year old black and white Cocker Spaniel whose coloring reminds us of a stormy weather pattern. We could not help but name him Gustav, after the infamous 2008 hurricane. There's nothing turbulent about our Gustav's nature, though. He's quite a sweet boy, but was rather neglected in his last home. When his family did not want him anymore, he was surrendered to the Manhattan pound. We've assured Gustav that rainbows always follow rainstorms ... and that, somewhere over the rainbow, a happy home awaits him. Gustav is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be neutered once he recovers from kennel cough, which he picked up in the shelter. Gustav will be professionally groomed before adoption and will also go home with a new leash and collar. He should make an excellent pet in an adult only home or in a home with older, dog experienced kids. Gustav seems to get along fine with other dogs, so could easily join a multiple pet household. If you would like to adopt this Al Roker of Cocker Spaniels, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Gustav will be checking his inbox daily for word of blue skies ahead.

Petey

UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU TO PAT AND FAMILY OF DUMONT, NJ, FOR OFFERING PETEY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH PETEY IS SHARING WITH ROXY THE COCKER AND OODLES THE POODLE! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, PAT!

Introducing our newest "special needs" boy, who is just plain SPECIAL. Petey came to us from Animal Care and Control in Manhattan, where he had been turned in as a stray. This poor senior Cocker (estimated to be 10-12 years old) had been wandering the streets of New York City with no sights or sounds to guide him, a situation both dangerous and scary. He had a large, golfball sized tumor on his face that has since been removed and found to be benign. There were many others on his chest and abdomen that have now also been removed. Sadly, one of the growths came back malignant, but was excised with clean margins, so we are hopeful that the cancer will not recur. In addition to the cancer finding, Petey also suffers from Cushings Disease (the overproduction of cortisol by the adrenal gland), for which he is currently receiving meds (2 daily pills, very easy to administer, particularly as our boy will eat almost anything!!) Petey will need to be on these meds for life.

Petey is an exceptionally loving dog who loves to cuddle with his person. He will stand absolutely still and cry when he does not know where his special someone is. He craves the security of being by someone's side or safe in his crate, where he enjoys snuggling on his bed, often sleeping on his back, snoring away with his paws in the air (we call it the "sleep of innocence"). Petey has an extraordinarily good temperament, so much so that he could be placed in a home with the smallest of kids. There is not a mean bone in this poor soul's body. Despite having been down, Petey is hardly out for the count. If you are someone who roots for the underdog and has a compassionate spirit, then Petey is just the boy for you. No one will ever love or appreciate you more than a dog who sees or hears no evil (although he has experienced it first hand). Petey has been neutered, treated to a dental, microchipped, tested for heartworm (negative), and has received all of his shots. To offer Petey a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Sweet Lily ~ PENDING

SWEET LILY HAS MADE A COMPLETE RECOVERY AFTER SURGERY TO REPAIR A HERNIATED DISK. SHE IS NOW READY FOR ADOPTION!

Sweet Lily is a 2 year old buff Cocker Spaniel with a natural (undocked) tail. This little beauty came into the Brooklyn Shelter as a stray, where she naturally became rather scared and upset. Now in Rescue, she has begun to settle down and feel safe. Sweet Lily has actually proven to be a very loving and loyal dog who simply needed a bit of time to bond with her new caregivers. Once she trusts, she becomes man's best friend. We are inclined to think that Sweet Lily would do best in an adult only home, preferably one with prior Cocker Spaniel experience, where she can receive a lot of reassurance and TLC. The first couple years of her life having been rather rough, she now deserves to be treated like a little princess. Sweet Lily has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to offer Sweet Lily another chance at love, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Spring having just arrived, the sweet scent of lilies will soon be in the air ... so now is surely our Sweet Lily's time to flower.

Bocelli

A BIG THANK YOU TO BETH AND FAMILY OF WESTFIELD, MA FOR OFFERING BOCELLI A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH BOCELLI IS SHARING WITH BETH'S OWN COCKER SPANIEL. BETH REPORTS THAT BOCELLI IS DOING GREAT, WALKING WELL ON A LEASH, AND FINDING HIS WAY AROUND WITH HIS NEW COCKER SISTER AS A GUIDE. THANK YOU, BETH!

BIO:

Bocelli is a handsome chocolate and white Cocker Spaniel who is a dignified 10 years old. Like Andreas Bocelli, the famous opera singer, our Bocelli is completely blind (he has cataracts in both eyes, for which nothing can be done). Bocelli came to us from the Brooklyn Shelter, where he had been turned in as an owner surrender. We can only imagine how confusing Bocelli's shelter experience must have been for him. When a dog gradually goes blind in his or her own home, at least the animal knows the lay of the land from memory. But once he was surrendered to the city pound, Bocelli would have had no familiar landmarks, smells or sounds to guide him. His experience would have been one of simply being lost in the dark, surrounded by the unknown. Other than his blindness, Bocelli is a very healthy boy. He is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, has tested negative for heartworm, and will shortly be treated to a dental. All he needs now is to be loved. If you would like to offer Bocelli a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Experience with blind dogs would obviously be helpful, but is not essential. As one might imagine, blind dogs have exceptionally keen hearing. Bocelli is listening intently for the footsteps of his new family, coming to bring him home. We've told him not to worry, you are on your way.

King of Hearts

Meet the King of Hearts ... he might just be your ace in the hole. This 4 year old buff male Cocker Spaniel was turned into the Manhattan Shelter as an owner surrender, as his mom was expecting a new baby and did not believe this heartbreaker would do well with young kids. We believe our King of Hearts would in fact prefer an adult only home, preferably one with prior Cocker Spaniel experience. The King of Hearts has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like fortune on your side, then the King of Hearts may just be your lucky card. To adopt him, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application.

Wallaby

A BIG THANK YOU TO KAREN AND MICHAEL OF BABYLON, NY, FOR OFFERING WALLY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME, WHICH WALLY IS SHARING WITH NELSON THE COCKER AND EMMITT THE CAT!

Hello, my name is Wallaby and there are a lot of things I wannabe ... among them, the light of your life, your protector, and your best friend. I am a 3 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel with a natural (undocked) tail. Until I came into Rescue, I did not experience much of anything good in life. Most people were quite unkind to me, hence my ability to trust was badly impaired. Sad though it may be, I truly did not know what it meant to love or be loved. I was bounced from one home to the next, and every time I came to a new place, I hoped that someone there would treat me as a cherished friend. Sadly, that was not to be. After just one month in my last home, I was surrendered to the Manhattan pound. There were no takers there for me either, so I was surrendered to Abandoned Angels. In this place called Rescue, I have finally found a soft spot to lay my weary head, safe in the knowledge that no one will mistreat me in any way. Slowly, slowly, I have begun to trust those around me. One day, after many weeks, I felt something new and unusual in my heart, which I somehow realized must be love for those volunteers who have been caring for me. Everyday, they ask me the same important question: "Wallaby, who do you wannabe?" For a long time, I did not know the answer. But then one day, it came to me, gently making its way into my subconscious as I dreamed a perfect dream, the one I used to have as a very small puppy. When I woke, I suddenly knew what I wanted in life and who I wanted to be. Looking up at my caregivers, I relayed the answer through eyes that were no longer just sad, but at long last somewhat hopeful: "After all I have been through, I still wannabe someone's treasured pet. I want the gift of unconditional love."

Love (at long last),

Wallaby

Winston

A BIG THANK YOU TO CAROL OF MANHATTAN FOR OFFERING WINSTON A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Hello, my name is Winston. I am a handsome 4-5 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel. I am ready for adoption now! I will devote my heart and soul to my new family and fill their lives with love, all that I ask in return is that they take good care of me - especially important is that I receive a monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. While I am now a very healthy boy, I was previously very neglected. I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date with all shots, and will be professionally groomed prior to adoption. I would do best in an experienced Cocker Spaniel home where my new owner will take my neglected background into account and give me time to settle in and demonstrate what a good dog I can be. We need to build trust together, which will not happen overnight. I could be placed in an adult only home or in a home with very mature, older kids who have lots of dog experience (little kids tend to overwhelm me). I can be rather unsure of myself in new environments and around strangers, but once I feel secure, I am just the best boy ever. If you would like to open your heart and home to me, please request an application from Abandoned Angels at rescue@nyabandonedangels.com ... I'll be waiting to hear from you. Please give me a chance! Love, Winston XXOO

Andy

JULY 1ST 2010 UPDATE: Andy has gained much of his strength back in his rear right leg. And he is learning to use a brace to stabilize his rear left leg. He is so determined! We just know that with patience, and continued care he will be walking on his own. HE STILL URGENTLY NEEDS A LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Hello, my name is Andy. I am a 5 month old male Cocker Spaniel puppy. I am the face of Canine Distemper. When I began my life, all I needed was a series of puppy shots, which no one cared enough to provide. Now I need physical therapy and, if things should not improve, may require a doggie wheel chair for the long-term. Those simple vaccinations would have taken only seconds. Now I am facing months of arduous recovery and may never get well. The shots I needed would not have cost my breeder much. Instead, the physical cost to me has almost been my life. Today, I should be learning to sit, stay, give paw and roll over. Instead, I am learning to be patient in the face of my disability and attempting to regain the use of my limbs. All I wanted was to be a part of a loving family and to play in someone's yard or visit the local dog run. Now I'm waiting for a family who will love and accept me despite my disability.

After weeks of intense treatment with antibiotics, steroids and physical therapy, the virus that attacked my body has at last been shed from my tiny system. However, in its wake, I have been left with damage to the nerves that control my hind legs. Because I am a determined little puppy with a strong will to live, I have made incredible improvements. My muscles have grown stronger and I can stand for short periods of time without assistance. Although it is a struggle, when I want to get around, I will drag my body forwards on my front legs.

While I may always be a special needs dog, I will always have a lot of love to give. I am a tiny Cocker Spaniel, so my weight when full grown is unlikely to exceed 20 pounds. If my hopes of recovery should be dashed, I can be carried with very little effort, but will need someone who carries a very special love for dogs to care for me. If you would like to foster me through the tough times ahead, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Please open your heart and lend me a helping hand. Experience with handicapped dogs would be beneficial but is not essential.

Love, Andy

Pokey

A BIG THANK YOU TO GAIL OF KERHONKSON, NY FOR OFFERING POKEY A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

JULY 1ST, 2010 UPDATE: We are happy to announce that we were able to provide Cataract repair surgery to both of Pokey's eyes. Thank you to everyone who donated! We will keep everyone updated on his progress!

BIO:

Pokey is a purebred black Cocker Spaniel with a splash of white on his chest (the quintessential Pilgrim outfit) is just 2 years old. Pokey was an owner surrender to the Brooklyn shelter. No specific reasons were provided when he was given up ... his family said they just did not want him anymore. A lame excuse if ever there was one! Now that Cocker Rescue has gotten to know him, we feel that Pokey would do best in a quiet, adult only home. Too many people coming and going tends to confuse him. Pokey would do well with an experienced Cocker Spaniel family who will not be overwhelmed by his quirks (he can get feisty with strangers, which is something that his new owners should be prepared to work on). Pokey is a good little dog but has the potential to be a fabulous dog ... he just needs a little guidance and firm but gentle discipline. Pokey is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before going home and will also come with a new leash and collar. If you are an experienced Cocker Spaniel owner and have room in your heart and home for Pokey, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Pokey will make a wonderful new addition with whom to celebrate the holidays this year and for many years to come.

Cody

UPDATE: CODY HAS RECENTLY TORN A CRUCIATE IN A REAR LEG AND IS ALSO UNDERGOING TREATMENT FOR A HIGHLY RESISTANT FORM OF STAPH INFECTION. HE IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR ADOPTION AT THIS TIME.

Cody is a handsome parti-colored Clumber Spaniel/Cocker Spaniel cross who has just turned 7 years old. He is a big, imposing boy with a heart of gold. Cody came to us as an owner surrender after his Dad suffered a stroke and could no longer care for him. Cody is a very loving and playful boy who is happiest when he is receiving loads of attention. He might best be described as a "total ham." Cody will do best in an experienced, adult only Spaniel home where someone has a lot of time to devote to him. As Cody truly yearns to be "man's best friend," we believe he would do exceptionally well with a male owner. Although Cody enjoys the company of other dogs, he would enjoy being the only pet and the center of someone's canine universe. Cody is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. He has been fully vet checked, including bloodwork and a dental. He passed with flying colors and is a very healthy boy. If you would like to adopt Cody, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Cody is waiting to rock your world!

Moo-moo

Moo-Moo has been an Abandoned Angel for a couple of years now. Moo-Moo came into rescue as a senior after having been abandoned at the Brooklyn shelter by the family with whom he had spent his entire life. Eventually he made his way to New England, where we found foster placement for him on a farm. Sadly, due to illness and other family problems, his foster became unable to care for him, whereupon Moo-Moo was returned to rescue. Moo-Moo enjoys the country life, but does require an experienced foster and would do best in a cocker savvy home. He is about 11 years old now. He can get a little cranky sometimes, but he is a wonderful boy. Moo-moo is neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt or foster Moo-Moo, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Moo-Moo is sure to love you until the cows come home!
