  • Chocolate

Don't we all just love Chocolate, in whatever shape or form it comes ... meet Chocolate, a handsome 7 year old chocolate Cocker Spaniel with a hint of white on his chest, like a little bit of whipped cream topping off the fudge on an ice cream sundae. Chocolate recently came into the Brooklyn Shelter as an owner surrender. He is a very sweet dog but can be a little timid. He has shown no aggression but needs a little time to warm up and find his footing with new people. We are inclined to think he would do best in a low key environment where he will be given time and space to find his confidence. Chocolate has been neutered, microchipped, is current on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will shortly be treated to a dental cleaning and will also be professionally groomed before adoption. He will go home looking stylish with a new leash and collar. If you are looking for a pet who is both decadent and sweet, then look no further. To adopt Chocolate or foster him while he awaits his forever family, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Like all things too good to resist, you are sure to love Chocolate.

Weeping Willow ~ Photos Taken 8/29/11

    Weeping Willow

Even willows would weep for our Weeping Willow. The moon, the stars and the sun would also cry for a dog so neglected. This 6 year old chocolate and white Cocker Spaniel with a gentle temperament wanted help so badly that he actually jumped into our car when we went to assess him at the Brooklyn Shelter. Although he was initially picked up as a stray, the truth is that someone once owned this dog and allowed him to suffer to this beyond appalling extent: eyes bulging with glaucoma and ears so inflamed and infected that the canals have become completely calcified and closed. This poor soul is now a candidate for dual ear ablation surgery which, while it will render him deaf, is the only means of eradicating the tremendous pain he now suffers. There is simply no excuse for allowing an animal to suffer like this. If his family did not have the resources to care for him, he should have been surrendered to a rescue long ago so that someone could provide him with proper care. Willow is currently being stabilized at our vet's office where he is undergoing pain management. After we have raised sufficient funds for his care - a minimum of $5,000.00 - he will receive the surgery he so desperately needs. If you are inclined to Weep with us for our Willow, please consider making a tax-deductible donation towards his veterinary expenses to the following PayPal recipient address: donation@nyabandonedangels.com or send a check payable to Abandoned Angels to PO Box 545426, Flushing, NY 11354.

    Dino

Yabadabadoo, in true Flintstones style!! Introducing Dino, a handsome 6 year old buff male Cocker Spaniel who came into the Brooklyn Shelter recently as a stray. Although a little scared, he has warmed up quickly, and is proving to be an extremely loving pet. Dino would do best in a low-key adult only home. He is currently in foster care where he shares a home with a female Cocker Spaniel. We're told he loves to cuddle and gives lots of kisses. He also enjoys belly rubs and watching the birds he sees through the windows. Dino loves to run rather than walk on a leash therefore; he would make a great running partner. Dino would also do well in a home with a fenced in backyard where he could run freely and play to his hearts content. Dino has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Although he came to us in rather bedraggled condition, he has been groomed and treated to a dental cleaning and will also go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Dino, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Dino is ready to leave the Stone Age behind and enjoy all the best that the modern world has to offer, including the creature comforts of home.

    Danny

Hello, my name is Danny. I am a handsome senior male Cocker Spaniel roughly 10 years old. I was recently found wandering loose as a stray and was brought to the Brooklyn Shelter. When my stray time was up and I went unclaimed, I was released to rescue. As an older boy, I have a few health issues that need to be addressed. I am in urgent need of dentistry and also have some lumps and bumps that need to be removed and biopsied. In addition, I am in need of a glaucoma check to be sure that everything with my eyes is okay. Despite the hard times that have befallen me, I have a very easygoing nature and will make an excellent companion, either as a foster dog or as an adoptive pet. I have been neutered, microchipped, am up-to-date on all shots, and have tested negative for heartworm. I will shortly be going in for a professional grooming and will be going home with a new leash and collar. Although I will not be ready to go before my medical has been addressed, rescue would love to hear from prospective foster families who might be interested in offering me a place to stay. If you would like to foster me (or adopt me in the future), please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Tax-deductible donations towards my medical expenses can also be made via paypal to recipient email address donation@nyabandonedangels.com or by check payable to "Abandoned Angels", PO Box 545426, Flushing, NY 11354. Thank you for caring about me... love always, Danny XXOO

    Jonas

Jonas is a tall, regal looking poodle, who possibly has some wheaton terrier in him (in any event, he's as hypoallergenic as they come). Jonas is a loving dog with his own family, but can be somewhat fearful with strangers. Jonas needs someone who will be committed to him through bumps and setbacks. Sadly, too many people have simply given up on him. Jonas needs a very low key home, preferably in a rural or suburban setting, perhaps with a single person or a couple who lead a quiet life (no kids). Experience with troubled animals is essential. Jonas has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date with all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. If you would like to adopt Jonas, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Jonas will be checking his inbox daily.

    Diva

AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS WORKING WITH OUR TRAINER IN HIS HOME, DIVA IS READY TO GO OUT INTO THE WORLD AND GIVE LIFE AS AN ADOPTIVE DOG OR FOSTER DOG A CHANCE ... HER TRAINER WILL CONTINUE WORKING WITH HER DURING HER TRANSITION AS SHE SETTLES IN WITH A NEW FAMILY. DIVA WILL REQUIRE A SPECIAL HOME WILLING TO STICK WITH HER THROUGH SETBACKS AS SHE CONTINUES TO WORK ON TRUST ISSUES WITH PEOPLE.

Diva is a 6 year old, 8 pound Yorkie/Maltese cross (a "Morkie") who came into the Manhattan Shelter as a stray with significant handling issues. She shows signs of having been badly abused over a prolonged period. When Diva first came to us, she had no trust in human beings at all. Underneath it all, we know that she is simply a very scared dog who has been battered by life as well as evil people. After several weeks working with a trainer, we have begun to inspire her trust. Diva has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She has recently been treated to a dental cleaning and will go home with a new leash and collar. While she has enjoyed very little pampering in life, Diva is now ready to live up to her name. If you would like to make Diva your pampered pet and offer her the life she has long deserved, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Diva's heart is ready to sing!

    Ralphie (Updated photos 8/12)

Who's the handsome guy? Meet Ralphie, an 7 year old male Cocker Spaniel recently rescued from the streets of NYC. Ralphie was found as a stray in decrepit condition and brought to the Brooklyn Shelter. Due to his poor condition, he was not a candidate for adoption and was therefore released to rescue when his stray time was up. Ralphie was emaciated, with severely infected ears and cataracts that affect his vision at least somewhat. He looks to have had a hard time of it outdoors in the harsh winter weather. Ralphie is a very mild and friendly dog who would make an excellent foster candidate. He has been microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. Before going home, he will be neutered, treated to a dental and also professionally groomed. Ralphie is a dog who has known very little of the "good life." However, he is open to the theory that it is "never too late." Having been through so much, Ralphie now deserves the best of everything. If you would like to help us spoil Ralphie, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Ralphie will be checking his email inbox daily.

    Namaste

"Namaste" (NAMAS-DAY) is a spiritual greeting of the Buddist faith in which one honors the place in another's heart which is of Love, of Integrity, of Wisdom and of Peace. We felt this name would be a suitable way of honoring a dog who has known none of the above. It reflects our hope that someday soon all these things and more will come his way. He is certainly very deserving. Namaste ("Nama") is a 5 year old rust colored Cocker Spaniel who was recently turned into the Brooklyn Shelter as a stray. He is a victim of neglect so severe that it rises to the level of animal cruelty and could in fact be prosecuted if the owners could be found. Nama's ears are horribly calcified and swollen shut, the result of years of untreated, chronic infection. His pain is so intense that no one has yet been able to touch him in order to provide any care or comfort. Nama is being released to Abandoned Angels on an emergency basis in order that we can provide him with urgent critical care under sedation. While we will do everything possible to save his ears, having been down this road with other Cockers in the past, we know that dual ear ablation is almost inevitable. While a major surgery costing $2500.00 per ear (assuming no complications), it is almost certainly the only means to relieve his suffering. PLEASE HELP US ... after multiple emergency medical cases already this year, we are in urgent need of donations to fund Nama's treatment. His tragic story is one of agony and neglect. We are seeking to return him to a place of Love and Peace where he will at long last be treated with the Integrity and Wisdom he so deserves. Please help us to honor Nama by making a tax-deductible in his name to the following paypal recipient address: donation@nyabandonedangels.com. Donations in any amount, large or small, will be gratefully accepted. If you prefer to send a check, please make it payable to "Abandoned Angels" and send to PO Box 545426, Flushing, NY 11354. As always, we send our heartfelt thanksfor your ongoing support and wish you "Namaste."

    Tulip

Ready for Spring? Meet Tulip, our beautiful 3 year old English "Spring-er" Spaniel/Border Collie Cross. Tulip has recently come to us from Animal Care and Control in Brooklyn, where she was turned in as a stray. She is a very majestic looking dog with a beautiful natural tail that she swishes like a feather. Tulip will do wonderfully well in a family with older kids and can be placed with other dogs, although she seems to prefer dogs who are her size or a little bigger. Little ones appear to irritate her. Tulip is a healthy girl who has been spayed, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. She will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Tulip, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Spring is in the air and Tulips are ready to bloom!

    Merlin

Merlin is a 7 year old miniature poodle weighing only 7 pounds ... one pound for every year! He has such a magical personality that we are beginning to consider him a new breed of poodle, a Magic-poo! Merlin’s favorite place to be is in the lap of the one he loves. He fits so perfectly in the crook of your arm that you begin to feel he was meant to be there all along. While he is going through a bit of a rough spell after life on the streets, Merlin remains in good spirits. He has a minor skin infection, including some hair loss on the ridge of his nose. He has been started on antibiotics and his condition is improving. Merlin has also been neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, treated to a dental cleaning, and tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption, and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt or foster Merlin, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Bring the magic home!

    Brownie

UPDATE (January 6th, 2011): BROWNIE HAS BEEN EXAMINED BY OUR VETERINARY NEUROLOGIST TO ASSESS HIS REAR LEG LAMENESS. RADIOGRAPHS (X-RAYS) REVEALED EVIDENCE OF EXTENSIVE HIP REPAIR SURGERY IN BROWNIE’S PAST. THIS IS LIKELY THE CAUSE OF HIS LAMENSS, RESULTING FROM THE PAST INJURY AND REPAIR. BROWNIE WILL BE FITTED WITH A THERAPEUTIC LEATHER BOOT TO PREVENT ANY DRAGGING INJURY TO HIS FOOT. BROWNIE IS, AND HAS CONTINUED TO BE IN EXCELLENT SPIRITS!

THANK YOU TO CAROLYN R. AND FAMILY OF CANAAN, NH FOR OFFERING BROWNIE A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK FOR HELPING US RESCUE BROWNIE. BECAUSE OF THEIR GENEROSITY, WE ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE BROWNIE WITH MUCH NEEDED MEDICAL CARE.

Brownie is a handsome 10 year old male Cocker Spaniel. As anyone who knows us knows, our seniors hold a special place in our hearts. Brownie was surrendered to the Brooklyn Shelter shortly before Christmas with a severe leg injury, as well as skin and ear problems. He had been adopted from the Brooklyn pound several years earlier and appears to have received no care at all since that time. He is completely lame currently and dragging one of his rear legs. We will shortly be sending him in for an orthopedic assessment in order to properly assess his medical needs. Brownie has an excellent temperament and loves attention. He is gentle enough to be trusted with the youngest of kids (whether boyscouts or brownies) and is fine with both dogs and cats. Brownie has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will shortly be in the market for a foster home and is sure to make both a loving and grateful companion. If you would like to offer Brownie a place to lay his weary head, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Brownie is ready for some holiday cheer!

    Soul
(You can view Soul's Before photos at: Emergency Case #15)

Soul is a handsome, golden buff 10 year old male Cocker Spaniel who came to our rescue from the Manhattan shelter. He was found abandoned in a vacant apartment with no food or water. Since he has been in our care, he has truly thrived. Soul is visually impaired but does see shadows. He loves going for walks and enjoys all the smells of the outdoors. He's a fun loving boy who likes to play and keep himself amused with his toys. He currently receives daily eye drops for his vision, so we consider him to be a "special needs" boy... and special he is! He's a one of a kind pooch! To see Soul in action, please click the video link for a touching video about Soul's back story. Soul will be professionally groomed and get a new leash and collar before going to his forever home. If you would like to give this loving Soul a home, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com to request an application.

    Maxfield Parrish

Meet Maxfield Parrish ("Max"), named in honor of the famous Philadelphia artist, all because he's pretty as a picture. Max is a handsome 5 year old Cocker Spaniel who comes to us from the Brooklyn Shelter, where he was turned in as a stray. He is friendly both with people and with other dogs, so could easily join a multiple pet household. Max has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. If you would like to adopt Max, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Ever the artist, Max is waiting to color your world!

    Pythagoras

Pythagoras (fondly known to us as "Peeky") is a handsome 7-8 year old buff Cocker Spaniel who has come to us from Brooklyn ACC. He has stood out among the crowd as such a brilliant dog that we have named him after an ancient Greek philosopher, mathematician and astronomer. We speculate that our Pythagoras was studying the moon and the stars when he lost his way one recent fall evening ... he would not be the first absent-minded professor to become so engrossed in the cerebral that he forgot the practical (like where he lived). While at Animal Control, Pythagoras sat around working on algorithms just to pass the time. He had halfway concluded that rescue for a somewhat older dog was pi in the sky when we came up with a formula for springing him. Pythagoras has now been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar. The only thing now missing from the equation of his life is a place called home. If you would like to offer Pythagoras a foster home or, better still, an adoptive home to call his own, please email rescue@nyabandonedangels.com and request an application. Pythagoras will make the perfect companion with whom to go star-gazing (and is brainy enough to help you balance your checkbook).

    Winston

A BIG THANK YOU TO CAROL OF MANHATTAN, NY FOR OFFERING WINSTON A SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER HOME!

Hello, my name is Winston. I am a handsome 4-5 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel. I am ready for adoption now! I will devote my heart and soul to my new family and fill their lives with love, all that I ask in return is that they take good care of me - especially important is that I receive a monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. While I am now a very healthy boy, I was previously very neglected. I am neutered, microchipped, up-to-date with all shots, and will be professionally groomed prior to adoption. I would do best in an experienced Cocker Spaniel home where my new owner will take my neglected background into account and give me time to settle in and demonstrate what a good dog I can be. We need to build trust together, which will not happen overnight. I could be placed in an adult only home or in a home with very mature, older kids who have lots of dog experience (little kids tend to overwhelm me). I can be rather unsure of myself in new environments and around strangers, but once I feel secure, I am just the best boy ever. If you would like to open your heart and home to me, please request an application from Abandoned Angels at rescue@nyabandonedangels.com ... I'll be waiting to hear from you. Please give me a chance! Love, Winston XXOO
