UPDATE: Billy Jean is recovering her strength, but still in need of a foster home!! Sadly, her mammary tumors were discovered to be malignant, but they removed with clean margins, so we are hoping for the best. Given her age and how fragile she is, heroic measures are not practical. Billy Jean's coat is growing in well and she is starting to wag her tail. All she needs now is a quiet place to lay her head and live out her life in tranquility for whatever time she has left. Please open your heart and home if possible, Billy Jean really needs you!!
Billie Jean is a female tri-color Cocker Spaniel 12 years old. Billie Jean falls within the "worst of the worst" category in terms of long-term neglect. She was turned into Animal Care and Control of NYC as a stray in horrific condition. It was difficult to know just what color she was as she was lacking most of her fur. She was itching horribly and had massive hair loss due to parasites (these have now been eradicated and her fur is now coming back). In addition, she was emaciated, with an almost skeletal frame. To top it all off, she has visual impairment due to untreated dry eye as well as glaucoma. Billie Jean has now been treated by a veterinary ophthalmologist as well as a dermatologist and is doing well on meds. Billie Jean has been spayed, had several mammary tumors removed, and a much needed dental. She has also been vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworm. Billie Jean still has a long way to go but is ready to be placed in foster care (all medical with be covered by rescue). If you are located in NY, NJ, PA, DE,, MD, CT, MA, RI, VT, or NH and would like to take Billie Jean home, please click here to submit an online application or email to request one. Billie Jean is a gentle girl who will make an excellent family pet. She is one dog who truly deserves a silver spoon in her golden years.
