Meet Delphina, a sad story if ever there was one, the kind that breaks our hearts. Delphina is a 10 year old purebred pale buff Cocker Spaniel. Delphina's life would have had a good turn had she come to us years ago. She came into Animal Care and Control of NYC but was not released to rescue. Instead she was adopted out to the public and joined a very poor home. About six years later, she was back in the pound. The original adopters had not kept her, for they had passed her on to someone else, with both homes neglecting her badly. She arrived with her nails so long they were embedded in her paw pads. She had urine burns on her backside, perhaps from being confined, and has ulcerations of her eyes, having contracted dry eye (of course it went untreated). Her condition was in fact so filthy that maggots were seen at the back of her kennel. At that point she was released to rescue, where she belonged years ago. Delphina is now receiving all the care she needs and is ready for foster placement. She is currently spayed, microchipped, current on all shots and also heartworm negative. She has been shaved to the skin to address her burns and also been treated for parasites. Her dry eye is being treated with drops and she is scheduled for much needed dentistry. Delphina is an exceptionally sweet and gentle girl who deserves the best in her later years, particularly after all that she's suffered.
