UPDATE (December 28, 2012):
Prince was transferred to Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital today in Manhattan where he underwent a complete cardio workup including an echocardiogram. In addition to a heart murmur, the vets also noticed that the left side of his heart is enlarged. He also has a leaky heart valve due to a rupture. They believe it will most likely progress and he could suffer heart failure in the future. He will require heart medication for the remainder of his life and will need periodic follow-ups. He can still have spine surgery, however, it is a risk. We should know more tomorrow after the MRI. Please keep Prince in your thoughts and prayers tonight! Thank you!
UPDATE (December 27, 2012):

Emergency Case #28
Help Save Chip!
Chip finally came today with X-rays in paw due to a mass in his abdomen, after lingering in the Brooklyn shelter for almost 10 days on stray hold. We are HORRIFIED to see the neglected condition this sweet gentle obese boy is in. His eyes are bulging from glaucoma, one can only imagine the pain he must be in from the pressure building up in his eyes. Chip has a host of other health issues which are currently being evaluated by our Vet and will be addressed. We are in dire need of donations to help provide Chip with the medical care he so desperately needs and deserves. We CANNOT believe his so-called family did not provide him with any medical care and dumped him in a shelter to die. We are his only hope, PLEASE HELP HIM! They obviously failed him, we won't! Please donate even $1 will help!
Thank you for coming to Chip's rescue.

UPDATE (February 10, 2013):
Prince had his second follow-up exam on January 30th. The neurologist recommended another 4 weeks of cage rest. Prince is now standing and walking! He is still on heart medication and vitamins. He will be rechecked in a month. In the meantime, we are taking applications for a possible foster or adoptive home. He is very affectionate and loves other dogs! However, he cannot walk up or down stairs or jump on furniture for the remainder of his life. If you are interested in fostering or adopting this sweet boy, please click here to access our application. Thank you!
Update (February 7, 2013): Buddy was hospitalized Wednesday for medical treatment. His white blood count was extremely elevated, given his age and weak condition, he was placed immediately on IV antibiotics and fluids to combat a systemic infection. Please keep Buddy in your thoughts and prayers.
