Maya is a very pretty and petite black female Cocker Spaniel with a natural tail. She is 7 years old and appears to have endured some trauma in her life, as she is quite a fearful girl. In terms of background, we know only that her owner died, following which she ended up at Animal Care and Control of NYC. As a very timid dog, Maya reacted badly to shelter life, finally ending up on the euthanasia list, from which we pulled her. Since coming into rescue, Maya is faring better. Although she spent the first few days curled up in a tiny ball, she is beginning to come out of her shell now and is more receptive to handling. She is enjoying her walks in the neighborhood and beginning to trust a little bit more with each passing day. Maya is a dog whose future potential remains impeded by her past. She will need an owner who is committed to helping her look forward and providing positive reinforcement as she takes steps towards healing. Maya is a healthy girl who has been spayed, microchipped, is current on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. She will shortly be treated to a dental cleaning and will be professionally groomed prior to going home. Maya is in urgent need of foster placement (or, better still, an adoptive home).
