Rockie is a handsome 9 year old Cockapoo with a wonderful temperament. He is a black Cockapoo with shots of grey running through his coat, giving him a distinguished air. Rockie comes to us from Animal Care and Control of NYC, where he was turned in as an owner surrender due to medical cost. His ears have severely neglected over the years, such that he now requires Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA) surgery of one (and possibly both) ears. This is now being addressed at Manhattan's Animal Medical Center. Despite the pain that he is suffering, Rockie remains utterly sweet and trusting. He will make an excellent family dog once his medical needs have been met and can be placed with kids. He is expected to be at least somewhat hearing impaired on a post-surgical basis and may in fact have little hearing left even at this time. As a result, he is a special needs dog who will rely heavily on his remaining senses. Rockie is otherwise a healthy boy who has been neutered, microchipped, is current on all shots, and has tested heartworm negative. He will be professionally groomed before his placement and will be sporting a new leash and collar at the time of going home. Rockie will be available for foster during the month of April. If you would like to take him home, please click here to submit an online application or email to request one. We would like to keep Rockie in the NYC area for the next few months as he will need to return for follow-up vetting once his surgery is complete and may need surgery on a second ear. Please give Rockie a place to hang his hat. He has been suffering with ear pain for a number of years and really needs a break.
